Evolution of suitable type of bottom trawls for the medium size steel trawlers of Orissa Fisheries Department

    Get PDF
This paper deals with the results of fishing operations conducted with conventional trawls of size 22.3 - 25.6 m and gear of 32 m long wing and bulged belly designed and developed at the Central Institute of Fishery Technology, from four medium size trawlers of Orissa Fisheries Department during 1970-71 and 1971-72 fishing seasons. By employing suitable and standard size gear there was proper utilisation of the engine power with resultant increase in the total landings of shrimps and bottom and off bottom fishes

Experiments in fishing with shrimp trawls: on the standardisation of tickler chain

    Get PDF
The communication deals with the results of experiments conducted off Gujarat coast for the standardisation of "Tickler chain" for shrimp trawls. Of the short link chains made of 3.2 mm, 4.8 mm and 6.2 mm rods the second was observed to increase the yield of shrimp in the net and without in any way adversely affecting the performance of the gear. The chains used had no influence on the fish catch

On the results of bottom-drift-long-lines operated off Veraval with particular reference to selective action of baits and hooks used

    Get PDF
Hither to comprehensive data on the various types of baits used for capture of predatory fish and selective action of different hooks for bottom-drift-long lines is conspicuous by its absence. In the present studies attempts were made to evaluate the effectiveness of three types of baits and four sizes of hooks. Significant results obtained during the course of these investigations are presented in this communication

On the comparative efficiency of trawls made of cotton, polyethylene and combination of both the materials

    Get PDF
The merits and demerits of cotton, polyethylene and combination of the two materials ascertained on the basis of cost, wear and tear, maintenance, total catch and qualitative analysis of the catch are discussed by making comparative fishing experiments with the three trawl gears made of these materials. The study can be concluded with a suggestion for switching over to polyethylene twisted monofilaments for better, in case of bottom trawls without in any way adversely affecting the catch of shrimps and at the same time for enhanced fish catch. Even though the combination net is found to be equal in efficiency as the polyethylene net this idea cannot be conveniently adopted from the point of view of economy

Comparative efficiency of trawls made of nylon, polyethylene monofilament and tape twines

    Get PDF
Results of comparative fishing operations conducted with three nets of identical design made of nylon, twisted polyethylene monofilament and high density polyethylene (HDPE) tape twines are presented in this communication. Since the tape net recorded the highest prawn and fish catch, monofilament and nylon following in order, it can be recommended to the fishing industry as one of the cheapest and effective fishing materials evolved for trawl fabrication

Economics of gill netting and two boat midwater trawling

    Get PDF
The paper deals with the economic aspects of operation of gill netting and two boat midwater trawling conducted off Cochin. The data collected on two boat midwater trawling and gill netting during 1979 and 1980-81 are presented. Gill netting was profitable at the range of 17.5 and 25.2% while two midwater trawling was profitable at the rate of 18.5 %

Parallel twin-body trawl for shrimps, its design and efficiency

    Get PDF
Comparative studies with a new 17 m parallel twin-body trawl and a 17 m bulged belly trawl conducted off Cochin during 1974-77 are reported. The parallel twin body trawl showed an increase of 28% in catch over that of bulged belly with a break up of 39.9% and 23.1 % for prawns and fishes respectively. The increase in catch is attributed to the extra wide mouth opening (26.6 %) of the parallel twin-body trawl. Parallel twin-body trawl had 8.96% lesser resistance which resulted in lower utilization of horse power

Studies on morphometry and hydrology of Gandhisagar Reservoir with special reference to its fisheries

    Get PDF
Gandhisagar, the second largest reservoir of India is located in Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh at latitude 24°44'N and longitude 75°33'E at an altitude of 403.56m MSL in orientation from NE to SE. It has an extensive water spread area of 66000 ha at full reservoir level with a maximum and mean depth of 49.52 and 11.73 m respectively. The maximum length and width of the reservoir are 112 and 16km having a total shore line of 442km. Details of catchment area, bathymetry, standard hydrological data giving water level relation of the basin to water spread area, volume and fish production and the bottom topographical details of 11 experimental fishing stations and 6 fish landing centres are discussed

    Crystal structure of sulfamerazine

    No full text
The structure of sulfamerazine, C11H12N4O2S, a very important sulfonamide drug, has been solved by direct methods with X-ray diffraction data collected using Cu Kα radiation. The crystals are orthorhombic, with a=9.145(1), b=11.704(1), c=22.884(2) à and space group Pbca. The structure was refined with 2082 observed independent reflections, measured on a CAD-4 diffractometer, to a final R value of 0.078. The molecule has similar conformational features to those observed in other sulfonamide drugs. © 1982 Plenum Publishing Corporation
