Filtration of Iron Ore Slime using Synthesized Co-Polymer

    Get PDF
The present paper reports study on filtration of iron ore slimes using the co-polymer synthesized by grafting polyacrylamide chains on starch backbone. The efficacy of the synthesized polymer was tested for the filtration of iron ore slimes following flocculation. The filtration rate increases with increasing flocculant dosage. However, the improvement is marginal at higher flocculant dosage. The filtration rate decreases with increasing pulp density and/or increasing pH. The filtration efficacy of synthe-sized polymer is comparable with the imported one, Magna-floc 1011 at neutral pH. At the alkaline pH, the initial rate of filtration is higher with Magnafloc 1011 compared to the synthesized polymer. The turbidity of filtrate is, however, more than 500 NTU in the former case. The filtra-tion data fits Kozeny's equation at constant pressure

Measurements of integral muon intensity at large zenith angles

    Get PDF
High-statistics data on near-horizontal muons collected with Russian-Italian coordinate detector DECOR are analyzed. Precise measurements of muon angular distributions in zenith angle interval from 60 to 90 degrees have been performed. In total, more than 20 million muons are selected. Dependences of the absolute integral muon intensity on zenith angle for several threshold energies ranging from 1.7 GeV to 7.2 GeV are derived. Results for this region of zenith angles and threshold energies have been obtained for the first time. The dependence of integral intensity on zenith angle and threshold energy is well fitted by a simple analytical formula.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, 1 tabl

Enhanced Room Temperature Coefficient of Resistance and Magneto-resistance of Ag-added La0.7Ca0.3-xBaxMnO3 Composites

In this paper we report an enhanced temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) close to room temperature in La0.7Ca0.3-xBaxMnO3 + Agy (x = 0.10, 0.15 and y = 0.0 to 0.40) (LCBMO+Ag) composite manganites. The observed enhancement of TCR is attributed to the grain growth and opening of new conducting channels in the composites. Ag addition has also been found to enhance intra-granular magneto-resistance. Inter-granular MR, however, is seen to decrease with Ag addition. The enhanced TCR and MR at / near room temperature open up the possibility of the use of such materials as infrared bolometric and magnetic field sensors respectively.Comment: 22 pages of Text + Figs:comments/suggestions([email protected]
