Workplace Conflict Management Styles: Comparative Study of Indian and Nigerian Employees
Conflict is all pervasive in nature and organizations around the world are not untouched with it. Present study deals with interpersonal conflict in corporate and academic organizations of India and Nigeria on a comparative basis. The study has a non-experimental, descriptive, and quantitative research design, in which a sample size of 103 Indian and 88 Nigerian employees was analyzed through stratified random sampling. Statistical measures like Cronbach’s alpha, One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and associated Games Howell procedure for multiple comparisons, bivariate correlation and chi square tests were employed to analyze the data. Examination of various independent variables and findings of the research reveal that there is a significant difference in how employees of both the countries differ in their approach to conflict handling. Interpersonal conflict understanding is crucial for smooth functioning of globalized organizations. Managers today are devising innovative handling techniques as conflict poses a great challenge for them. The present study can facilitate the management practitioners in understanding the concept and its implications in Indian and Nigerian context, the two countries which share a very warm, solid and seasoned socio-economic relationship. Assessing Impact of Entreprenuership Eduaction on Students’ Job Creation Ability after Graduation
Entrepreneurship education is an organised programme taught at our tertiary institutions to trained students to be self reliant. This study seeks to find out how effective the Entrepreneurship Education helps students attending a course leading to award of “Nigeria Certificate in Education” (NCE vocational and technical education) become self reliant by way of incubating their own businesses after graduation. Thus, the research assesses the impact of the entrepreneurial education in promoting business start up through new skills, knowledge, behaviour, and attitudes acquired from the colleges. It further tries to find out if the colleges have good activities that could prepare students for entrepreneurship. The research involves a survey conducted on 300 students selected via the simple random sampling method out of the 1200 final year’s students of the Federal Colleges of Education Potiskum and Gombe (FCE Potiskum & FCE Gombe). The final year students were considered because they have taken all the entrepreneurship education courses and are ready to face the real world for work. Two hypotheses guided this study. Mean, Standard Deviation and simple percentage were used in making analysis. The hypotheses were tested using the t-test at 0.05 significant levels. The findings revealed that the students have no intention to be self employed, and that the colleges have adequate but not befitting programs to prepare students for entrepreneurship after graduation. The study proffered recommendations to government and the institutions to tackle the problem. Keywords: Entrepreneurship, Technical and Vocational, Entrepreneurship Education, Job and Self-reliance
Malaysia-Nigeria Comparative Study on Locus of Control and Subjective Well Being Among Public Sector Organizations
The success of any organization is dependent on the personality of human resources it possesses. Besides other constructs of the personality, Locus of Control and the resultant Subjective Well Being among the employees determine their personal and organizational accomplishment. The two said concepts are comparatively studied in the Malaysian and Nigerian context among 117 government employees drawn from these two countries in the present paper. Variables were tested through statistical tools like Cronbac
Complementary roles of domestic and international networks in sustaining internationalization of SMEs: a modeling approach
The importance of networks in internationalization has been acknowledged in literature with much emphasis on international networks. What remains unclear is the complimentary role
being played by domestic and international networks in entry and sustaining international market. This paper provides an empirical understanding of the joint influence of firm’s domestic network and international network in sustaining internationalization of SMEs in Sub Sahara African countries. The study also examined the role of international entrepreneurial orientation (IEO) in mediating the relationships between domestic network, international network and internationalization of SMEs. The objectives of the study were achieved by developing hypotheses relating to the network resources in domestic and international markets and internationalization of SMEs. Using partial least square (PLS), the study analyzed data from a sample of 266 exporting SMEs in Nigeria and shows that establishing and maintaining domestic and international networks are crucial in sustaining internationalization of SMEs. Furthermore, mediation effect of IEO was significant in the relationships. The study proposes that enhancing the capacity of exporting SMEs in IEO can further increase their capacity develop and sustain their network resources both at home and in international market
Mediating role of international entrepreneurial orientation in the relationship between innovativeness and networks on internationalization of SMEs in Nigeria
Innovativeness and network are arguably important factors that are associated with a
firm internationalization. There is an increase in the body of literature on the role of
innovativeness and network on a successful internationalization of SMEs. However,
research on domestic and international perspectives of firm innovativeness and
network in a single framework to ascertain their impacts on the SMEs
internationalization remains scarce. Furthermore, the mediation effect of international
entrepreneurial orientation (IEO) dimensions (Innovativeness, Pro-activeness and
Risk-taking) on the above relationship has a strong appeal but lacks empirical support.
Likewise, what is not yet clear is the moderation effect of export promotion program
on the association between international entrepreneurial orientation and the
internationalization of SMEs. Given the above motivation, the study developed a
conceptual framework based on dynamic capability view and supported by
internationalization theory to examine whether domestic innovativeness, international
innovativeness, domestic network and international network influence the
internationalization of SMEs in Nigeria. In addition, the study investigated the
mediating effect of international entrepreneurial orientation on relationship between
the antecedents and outcome and export promotion programs as contingence of the
relationship between IEO and internationalization of SMEs. The study used Partial
Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with Smart PLS software
version 3.2.7 and sample data collected from 266 Nigerian exporting SMEs. The
results showed that domestic innovativeness and domestic network were statistically
significant with medium to large effect sizes, albeit international innovativeness and
international network were insignificant. These results support two out of the four
hypotheses on direct relationships. The mediating effect of innovativeness and risk taking
dimensions of IEO has been found to be significant, with small to medium
effect sizes in the model. However, the moderation hypotheses have not been
supported by the data collected for this study. The findings extend both empirical and theoretical literature on international entrepreneurship that has been underexplored.
With these results, the researcher concludes that the study makes contribution to
theory and practice. Direction for future study has been suggested based on the
limitations identified in the study
