    Generalizing the Coleman-Hill Theorem

    Get PDF
Following the work of Khare {\it et al}, we show that the generalization to systems with spontaneous symmetry breaking of the Coleman-Hill theorem to one-loop order, can be extended to the case including fermions with the most general interactions. Although the correction to the parity-odd part of the vacuum polarization looks complicated in the Higgs phase, it turns out that the correction to the Chern-Simons term is identical to that in the symmetric phase, with the difference coming only from the contribution of the would be Chern-Simons term. We also discuss the implication of our result to nonabelian systems.Comment: 11 pages, uses phyzzx. Abstract and conclusion modified, new reference adde

Detecting the Higgs Bosons of Minimal Supergravity with Muon Pairs

    Get PDF
The prospects at the CERN LHC are investigated for the discovery via decays into muon pairs of neutral Higgs bosons in the minimal supergravity model. Promising results are found for the CP-odd pseudoscalar (A0A^0) and the heavier CP-even scalar (H0H^0) Higgs bosons at large tanβv2/v1\tan\beta \equiv v_2/v_1. For \tan\beta \agt 10 and 100 GeV \alt m_A,m_H \alt 550 GeV, the A0A^0 and the H0H^0 masses could be precisely reconstructed from the dimuon invariant mass.Comment: 12 pages, REVTEX, 4 figure

Confirming the LHC Higgs Discovery with WW

    Get PDF
We investigate the prospects of observing a neutral Higgs boson decaying into a pair of WW bosons (one real and the other virtual), followed by the WW decays into qqνqq' \ell\nu or jjνjj\ell\nu at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Assuming that the missing transverse energy comes solely from the neutrino in WW decay, we can reconstruct the WW masses and then the Higgs mass. At the LHC with a center of mass energy (s\sqrt{s}) of 8 TeV and an integrated luminosity (LL) of 25 fb1^{-1}, we can potentially establish a 6σ6\sigma signal. A 5σ5\sigma discovery of HWWjjνH \to WW^* \to jj\ell\nu for s=14\sqrt{s} = 14 TeV can be achieved with L=L = 6 fb1^{-1}. The discovery of HWWH \to WW implies that the recently discovered new boson is a CP-even scalar if its spin is zero. In addition, this channel will provide a good opportunity to study the HWWHWW coupling

Self-Dual Chern-Simons Higgs Systems with an N=3 Extended Supersymmetry

We construct and study an N=3 supersymmetric Chern-Simons Higgs theory. This theory is the maximally supersymmetric one containing the self-dual models with a single gauge field and no gravity.Comment: 22 pages, phyzzx, CU-TP-56

Prospects for Higgs Searches with the Tri-bottom Channel in Unified SUSY Models

We investigate the prospects for the discovery of a neutral Higgs boson produced in association with a bb quark, followed by the Higgs decay into a pair of bottom quarks, ppbϕ0bbbˉ+Xpp \to b\phi^0 \to b b\bar{b} +X, at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) within the framework of unified supersymmetric models. The Higgs boson ϕ0\phi^0 can be a heavy scalar H0H^0 or a pseudoscalar A0A^0. Furthermore, this direct discovery channel is compared with the indirect Higgs searches in the rare decay Bsμ+μB_s \to \mu^+\mu^- at hadron colliders. Promising results are found for the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model, the anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking (AMSB) model, and the gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB) model. We find that the indirect search for B(Bsμ+μ)5×109B(B_s \to \mu^+\mu^-) \ge 5\times 10^{-9} is complementary to the direct search for bϕ0bbbˉb\phi^0 \to bb\bar{b} with s=14\sqrt{s} = 14 TeV and an integrated luminosity (LL) of 300 fb1^{-1}. In the AMSB and GMSB models, bϕ0bbbˉb\phi^0 \to bb\bar{b} with L=300L = 300 fb1^{-1} covers a larger area in the parameter space than B(Bsμ+μ)5×109B(B_s \to \mu^+\mu^-) \ge 5\times 10^{-9}. In addition, we present constraints from bsγb \to s\gamma and muon anomalous dipole moment (Δaμ\Delta a_\mu) on the parameter space.Comment: REVTEX, 23 pages, 4 figure

Detecting a Higgs Pseudoscalar with a ZZ Boson at the LHC

We have adopted two Higgs doublet models to study the production of a Higgs pseudoscalar (A0A^0) in association with a ZZ gauge boson from gluon fusion (ggZA0gg \to ZA^0) at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The prospects for the discovery of ZA0ˉbbˉZA^0 \to \ell \bar{\ell} b\bar{b} are investigated with physics backgrounds and realistic cuts. Promising results are found for m_A \alt 260 GeV in two Higgs doublet models when the heavier Higgs scalar (H0H^0) can decay into a ZZ boson and a Higgs pseudoscalar (A0A^0). Although the cross section of ggZA0gg \to ZA^0 is usually small in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, it can be significantly enhanced in general two Higgs doublet models. This discovery channel might provide an opportunity to search for a Higgs scalar and a Higgs pseudoscalar simultaneously at the LHC and could lead to new physics beyond the Standard Model and the minimal supersymmetric model.Comment: Two tables added for the ratio of signal/backgroun
