The purpose of the study was to find out the significant differences among Individual, Team and Dual Sport Players on the variable Self Esteem. For the purpose of the present study, two hundred fifty eight (N=258), Male subjects between the age group of 18-25 years volunteered to participate in the study. The subjects were purposively assigned into three groups: Group-A: Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (N1=86); Group-B: Panjab University, Chandigarh (N2=86) and Group-C: Punjabi University, Patiala (N3=86). To measure the level of Self-Esteem of subjects for the present study, the Self-Esteem Inventory (SEI) developed by Prasad and Thakur (1988) was administered. This scale consists of two parameters namely: Personal Perceived Self-Esteem and Social Perceived Self-Esteem. The differences in the mean of each group for selected variable were tested for the significance of difference by One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). For testing the hypotheses, the level of significance was set at 0.05. To conclude, it is significant to mention in relation to Self-Esteem that results of Individual Sport, Team Sports and Dual Sports players with regards to Social Perceived Self-Esteem and Self- Esteem were found statistically insignificant (P > .05) whereas, with regards to Personal Perceived Self Esteem were found statistically significant (P < .05).  Article visualizations

Propagation of Rayleigh waves in non-homogeneous orthotropic elastic media under the effect of magnetic field

    Get PDF
The influence of magnetic field on the propagation of Rayleigh waves in an inhomogeneous, orthotropic elastic solid medium has been discussed. The method of separation of variable is used to find the frequency equation of the surface waves. The obtained dispersion equations are in agreement with the classical results when magnetic field and non-homogeneity are neglected   Keywords: Inhomogeneity, Orthotropic elastic solid,   field, Magnetic field

Background: Childhood hypertension is an increasing problem all over the world; especially, in developing countries, as it has now been shown to be a precursor of adult hypertension. Objective: The objective of this study was to screen the patients presenting in the outpatient department (OPD) with minor illness for the presence of hypertension and its correlation with body mass index (BMI). Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional, observational study in which 105 children between 5 and 12 years of age, who presented in pediatrics OPD of a tertiary care hospital, were screened for blood pressure (BP), height, weight, and BMI. A pro forma was designed to include parental BP, diet details, physical activity, and average daily screen time. Their demographic details including BP of parents were recorded in OPD, and lifestyle of the child reflecting on screen time, physical activity, and food habits were recorded in pro forma. The children were later categorized according to their BMI and BP centiles. Results: BP >90th centile was found in 8 (7.6%) of the screened children and BP >90th centile was present in 5.55% of girls and 8.6% of the boys. 27 (25.7%) children had BMI >85th centile; 5 (4.7%) children had both BMI >85th centile and BP >90th centile; of them, three were boys and two were girls. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of routine measurements of the BP in all children presenting in OPD to screen them for hypertension

Unilateral Primary Congenital Lymphedema of the Upper Limb in an 11-Month-Old Infant: A Clinical and Pharmacological Perspective

BACKGROUND: Lymphedema is the accumulation of a protein-rich fluid in the interstitial space due to reduced lymph transport capacity. Congenital primary lymphedema affecting only one of the upper limbs is a rarity. CASE REPORT: We present a case of an 11-month-old infant presenting with swelling of the right upper limb, which had gradually progressed over the past five months. Lymphoscintigraphy was suggestive of lymphatic blockade in the right upper limb. All other investigations were within normal limits. A diagnosis of primary congenital lymphedema affecting the right upper limb was made. The patient was managed conservatively with complex decongestive therapy and was requested regular follow-up. The lymphedema did not increase within four months of follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: Complex decongestive therapy is the cornerstone of the management of primary congenital lymphedema. New investigational therapies such as leukotriene B4 antagonists hold a promise for patients with lymphedema

Complete Rectal Prolapse in Children: Case Report, Review of Literature, and Latest Trends in Management

BACKGROUND: Complete rectal prolapse is the circumferential descent of all the layers of the rectum through the anus. It often leads to bleeding, obstructed defecation, incarceration or fecal incontinence. CASE REPORT: We present a rare case of a 4-year-old child with complete rectal prolapse of 12 cm in length. The prolapsed rectum was manually repositioned after reducing the oedema. The precipitating factor was identified as excessive straining while passing stools. A change in position while passing stools was advised along with a high fibre diet and a stool softener. Recurrence was not observed in the 3 month of follow-up. CONCLUSION: Most cases of pediatric rectal prolapse are managed conservatively by addressing the associated and precipitating etiological factors. Surgical intervention may be required for recurrent or persistent cases

    Split-Hand Malformation in a 4-Year-Old Child

Split-hand deformity is one of the milder manifestations of a congenital disorder called split-hand/split-foot malformation. We present a case of a 4-year-old child with split-hand malformation in his left hand since birth. A median cleft was present in the affected hand with absence of the 3rd and 4th digits, giving rise to a characteristic lobster-claw appearance. Functionality of the affected hand was modestly impaired. As none of the close family members of the patient had similar limb malformations, the deformity was postulated to arise most likely from a de novo mutation. The patient was discharged after the parents were provided with genetic counseling

    Periodontal Infectogenomics

Abstract Periodontal diseases are chronic infectious disease in which the pathogenic bacteria initiate the host immune response leading to the destruction of tooth supporting tissue and eventually result in the tooth loss. It has multifactorial etiological factors including local, systemic, environmental and genetic factors. The effect of genetic factors on periodontal disease is already under extensive research and has explained the role of polymorphisms of immune mediators affecting disease response. The role genetic factors in pathogens colonisation is emerged as a new field of research as “infectogenomics”. It is a rapidly evolving and high-priority research area now days. It further elaborates the role of genetic factors in disease pathogenesis and help in the treatment, control and early prevention of infection. The aim of this review is to summarise the contemporary evidence available in the field of periodontal infectogenomics to draw some valuable conclusions to further elaborate its role in disease pathogenesis and its application in the clinical practice. This will open up opportunity for more extensive research in this field

Pediatric Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Parotid: Case Report, Review of Literature and Novel Therapeutic Targets

    No full text
Salivary gland tumors are extremely rare and encompass a diverse group of histologies. Less than 5% of the affected population is pediatric. We present a case of 6-year-old child with pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid. The patient underwent a superficial parotidectomy. Recurrence was not observed in the six months of follow-up. Surgery is the mainstay of the management of benign salivary gland tumors. Although novel molecular agents are being explored, personalized therapy would be a challenge due to the rarity and vast genetic/histologic variations of salivary gland tumors
