Consciousness of evolution and human gene in German high school students
An association map of evolution (Vererbung) indicates two meanings, \u27money\u27 and \u27gene\u27, among high school students in the Rhein district in Germany. What the students know about evolution includes biological words, social development and alteration of planets in transferred meaning. High school students in Germany know more about human gene than Japanese students at Nagasaki University. What high school students know about human gene seems to depend on the media. Over 20% among the testees in Germany remembered critical words or words to reconsider about human gene. As a background of ethical consciousness, a association map of Ethik is shown. Ethik is combined with religion in Germany. On the other hand Japanese university students in Nagasaki remember names of European thinkers from the stimulus word
連想法による、ドイツ、中国、日本における死の意識
Free association tests using the concept "death" were carried out at high schools and universities in 3 cultural areas. The results are: 1) Responses expressing feeling are less common in China. In the Asian cities feeling ‘fear’ ranks first among response words, as opposed to ‘sorrow’ in Germany. 2) Recalling words about ceremony is frequent in Germany, but not in Japan or China. 3) The cause of death, especially ‘suicide’, is frequent in Japan but less so in Germany. 4) Explanations about death are frequent in Germany, but less so in Japan. Cultural differences should be considered in death education
Commitment Processes in Close Relationships
The purpose of this study was to indentify a variety of factors that affect satisfaction and commitment on close relationship. We attempted to explain the process by which close relationships develop and deteriorate over time, by testing the adequacy of the investment model using longitudinal self-reported data from college students. The result indicated that changes over time in commitment were more strongly predictive of stay/leave behaviors than were other investment model factors. Thus, stay/leave behaviors were mediated by changes over time in commitment. Contrary to the investment model, variations in rewards contributed significantly to the prediction of satisfaction, but costs did not. And sex differences in the variables contributed to commitment was found; whereas men increased commitment because of increases in satisfaction, women promoted because of increases in satisfaction and investment size. These findings suggested that it is necessary to revise the investment model. From this point of view, we discussed the generalizability and limitation of investment model and sex differences in the process of stay/leave behaviors
A Dynamic Bond Pricing Model with Application to the Japanese Government Bonds
In this paper, we generalize the cross-sectional fixed-coupon bond pricing model of Kariya et. al.(2012) to a dynamic one. The bond prices are modeled as the present values of the future cash-flows where the discount functions are stochastic and may depend on the bond attributes. In our framework, the cross-sectional and time-series covariance structure among the stochastic discount functions depends on the difference of the time-to-maturity of the bonds. We also propose a bond price forecast method using our model. The empirical result and the forecast performance on the Japanese government bonds are presented
The Impact of Falling in Love : psychological adjustment and self-concept change
Through this research, we studied how love affairs affect the self identity and mental health of young people. We classified 109 male and 193 female undergraduate students into people in love and people not in love based on questionnaires completed by the students. As a results of comparing both groups, those who were in love reported high self-esteem, fullness scores and low depression scores in comparison with those who not in love. Those who were in love continuously tended to mark high brightness, friendliness, honesty, sensitivity, and the opposite sex role scores in comparison with those who were not in love. We discussed about the characteristics of young people in progress of personal relationships
