A review of early warning system models

    Get PDF
Financial crises have not declined in number, frequency or severity over the last two decades, rather the contrary. Each crisis causes enormous costs in the countries concerned. Thus, international financial institutions invest in researching early warning systems (EWS). The Early Warning System models can be made most useful to help sustain global growth and maintain financial stability, especially in light of the lessons learned from the current and past crises.Early Warning System models, financial crises

Spin susceptibility and polarization field in a dilute two-dimensional electron system in (111) silicon

We find that the polarization field, B_chi, obtained by scaling the weak-parallel-field magnetoresistance at different electron densities in a dilute two-dimensional electron system in (111) silicon, corresponds to the spin susceptibility that grows strongly at low densities. The polarization field, B_sat, determined by resistance saturation, turns out to deviate to lower values than B_chi with increasing electron density, which can be explained by filling of the upper electron subbands in the fully spin-polarized regime

Distance Education: Methods of Education for Students in Remote Areas of China

    Get PDF
This paper illustrates that distance education is a useful mechanism of education for students living in remote areas or those who desire a native English-speaking teacher to improve their own language skills. However, it will also show the ways in which distance education is not the perfect solution. This paper will overall find that distance education improves future economic opportunities, causes changes in teacher/student power dynamics, and does, to some extent, increase access to schooling for children living in rural, remote areas

An Analysis of Early Warning Signals of Currency Crises in Turkey, 1986-2004

    Get PDF
Within a signals approach framework Ă  la Kaminsky, Lizondo and Reinhart, this paper aims both to detect the early warning signals of currency crises in Turkey and to discuss the reliability of an early warning system for this country. To determine major leading indicators of currency crises in Turkey, more than 45 variables are tested, and by using the most relevant 15 variables, a composite index is constructed to estimate the probabilities of currency crises in the country.Currency crises, signals approach, early warning system, real exchange rate misalignment, foreign trade, Turkish economy

Capital flows to emerging markets: Liberalization, overshooting and volatility (a comment)

    Get PDF
Comment on: Philiippe Bachetta and Eric Van Wincoop, who in this paper aim is to assess the impact of financial liberalization in emerging markets on the dynamics of capital flows to these countries. By positing a cost of absorbing these flows, the authors explain how liberalization can give rise to an “overshooting” of capital inflows and asset prices. In addition, the authors examine whether incomplete information can give rise to a high degree of volatility in capital flows as well as to contagion. They also suggest that deviations in capital inflows from their steady-state levels can be used as a potential signal of future crises.Capital flows liberalization investment volatility asset price bubbles
