THE EFFECT OF GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS ON ACREAGE RESPONSE OVER TIME: THE CASE OF CORN PRODUCTION IN IOWA
Corn acreage response in Iowa is examined using a time-varying parameter regression model. Separate estimates of the permanent portion of the parameter vector are obtained for each year over the period 1957-82. The estimated elasticities are grouped into “program” and “nonprogram” periods. The results indicate corn acreage response is more own-price elastics, and the elasticity is less variable under government acreage control programs than under a “nonprogram” regime. The assumption of parameter constancy is shown to be inappropriate for modeling Iowa corn acreage response over time.Agricultural and Food Policy, Crop Production/Industries,
Adaptive Mann iterations for nonlinear accretive and pseudocontractive operator equations
We construct adaptive Mann iterations for finding fixed points of strongly pseudocontractive mappings and solving nonlinear strongly accretive (not necessary continuous) operator equation Sx = f in p-smooth Banach spaces
Comment on "Fermionic entanglement ambiguity in noninertial frames"
In this comment we show that the ambiguity of entropic quantities calculated
in Physical Review A 83, 062323 (2011) for fermionic fields in the context of
Unruh effect is not related to the properties of anticommuting fields, as
claimed in Physical Review A 83, 062323 (2011), but rather to wrong
mathematical manipulations with them and not taking into account a fundamental
superselection rule of quantum field theory.Comment: To appear in Physical Review A. Some of the problems discussed in
this comment can also be found in other previously published papers studying
the Unruh effect for fermions (in the context of quantum information theory).

Ten Years of Passion:I.S. Gromeka’s Contribution to Science
The work and life of Ippolit Stepanovich Gromeka is reviewed. Gromeka authored a classical set of eleven papers on fluid dynamics in just ten years before a tragic illness ended his life. Sadly, he is not well known to the western scientific community because all his publications were written in Russian. He is one of the three authors who independently derived an analytical solution for accelerating laminar pipe flow. He was the first to eliminate the contradiction between the theories of Young and Laplace on capillary phenomena. He initiated the theoretical basis of helical (Beltrami) flow, and he studied the movement of cyclones and anticyclones seventeen years before Zermelo (whose work is considered as pioneering). He is also the first to analyse wave propagation in liquid-filled hoses, thereby including fluid–structure interaction.</p
