Universalization of any adversarial attack using very few test examples

    Get PDF
Deep learning models are known to be vulnerable not only to input-dependent adversarial attacks but also to input-agnostic or universal adversarial attacks. Dezfooli et al. \cite{Dezfooli17,Dezfooli17anal} construct universal adversarial attack on a given model by looking at a large number of training data points and the geometry of the decision boundary near them. Subsequent work \cite{Khrulkov18} constructs universal attack by looking only at test examples and intermediate layers of the given model. In this paper, we propose a simple universalization technique to take any input-dependent adversarial attack and construct a universal attack by only looking at very few adversarial test examples. We do not require details of the given model and have negligible computational overhead for universalization. We theoretically justify our universalization technique by a spectral property common to many input-dependent adversarial perturbations, e.g., gradients, Fast Gradient Sign Method (FGSM) and DeepFool. Using matrix concentration inequalities and spectral perturbation bounds, we show that the top singular vector of input-dependent adversarial directions on a small test sample gives an effective and simple universal adversarial attack. For VGG16 and VGG19 models trained on ImageNet, our simple universalization of Gradient, FGSM, and DeepFool perturbations using a test sample of 64 images gives fooling rates comparable to state-of-the-art universal attacks \cite{Dezfooli17,Khrulkov18} for reasonable norms of perturbation

Online Purchase Intention: A Study on Consumer Behaviour in Indian Digital Environment

    Get PDF
With a potent market like India and the preference being given to a convenient lifestyle and the now happening digital revolution, Indian marketers and purchasers have started to understand the importance and the advantages of utilizing the online shopping platforms. Digital marketing is what affects the purchasing tendency and intentions of people. The motivation behind this research is to recognize the factors influencing Indian customers' frame of mind towards shopping on the internet along the lines of digital marketing to use it for the benefit of both, the marketer and the consumer. Based on Theory of Planned Behavior, constructs/variables like Perceived Behavioral Control, Subjective Norms, Attitude and India-specific factor (covers several socio-economic factors) were examined and analyzed. Two factors, online buying intention, and online purchase were created to extend the research.  The result shows that online purchase intention has the most significance in converting a buyer to actually make an online purchase. Out of the other factors, subjective norms positively affect the online buying intentions the most and perceived behavior negatively affects the same. The study highly reflects that digital marketing and targeting the right audience positively influence the purchase intention of an individual such that it converts into actual purchase

Helium Nova on a Very Massive White Dwarf -- A Light Curve Model of V445 Puppis (2000) Revised

V445 Pup (2000) is a unique object identified as a helium nova. Color indexes during the outburst are consistent with those of free-free emission. We present a free-free emission dominated light curve model of V445 Pup on the basis of the optically thick wind theory. Our light curve fitting shows that (1) the white dwarf (WD) mass is very massive (M_WD \gtrsim 1.35 M_\sun), and (2) a half of the accreted matter remains on the WD, both of which suggest that the increasing WD mass. Therefore, V445 Pup is a strong candidate of Type Ia supernova progenitor. The estimated distance to V445 Pup is now consistent with the recent observational suggestions, 3.5 < d < 6.5 kpc. A helium star companion is consistent with the brightness of m_v=14.5 mag just before the outburst, if it is a little bit evolved hot (\log T (K) \gtrsim 4.5) star with the mass of M_He \gtrsim 0.8 M_\sun. We then emphasize importance of observations in the near future quiescent phase after the thick circumstellar dust dissipates away, especially its color and magnitude to specify the nature of the companion star. We have also calculated helium ignition masses for helium shell flashes against various helium accretion rates and discussed the recurrence period of helium novae.Comment: 8 pages including 12 figures, to appear in Ap

Fluid-structure interaction study of stenotic flow in subject specific carotid bifurcation: a case study

Advances in numerical simulation have allowed the investigation of complex interaction of blood flow through elastic arteries which can be useful in demonstrating the disease progression and haemodynamics of cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis. In the present study, patient is diagnosed with an occluded right Internal Carotid Artery (ICA) with partial stenosis at root of right External Carotid Artery (ECA) and partial stenosis at the root of left ICA. 3D patient specific carotid bifurcation is generated based on CT scan data using MIMICS-14.0 and numerical analysis is performed using FSI in ANSYS-14.5. The blood flow is assumed to be incompressible, homogenous and Newtonian, while artery wall is assumed to behave linearly elastic. The two-way sequentially coupled transient FSI analysis is performed using FSI solver for three pulse cycles and haemodynamic parameters such as flow pattern, Wall Shear Stress (WSS), pressure contours and arterial wall deformation are studied at the bifurcation and critical zones. The variation in flow behavior is investigated throughout the pulse and simulation results obtained reveals that there is a considerable increase in the flow behavior in partially stenosed carotid unlike occluded carotid. The investigation also demonstrates disturbed flow pattern especially at the bifurcation and stenosed zone elevating the haemodynamic variation during peak systole and later part of pulse cycle. The obtained results agree well with the clinical observation and demonstrate the potential of patient specific numerical studies in prognosis of disease progression and plaque rupture

In-orbit Performance of UVIT on ASTROSAT

We present the in-orbit performance and the first results from the ultra-violet Imaging telescope (UVIT) on ASTROSAT. UVIT consists of two identical 38cm coaligned telescopes, one for the FUV channel (130-180nm) and the other for the NUV (200-300nm) and VIS (320-550nm) channels, with a field of view of 28 arcminarcmin. The FUV and the NUV detectors are operated in the high gain photon counting mode whereas the VIS detector is operated in the low gain integration mode. The FUV and NUV channels have filters and gratings, whereas the VIS channel has filters. The ASTROSAT was launched on 28th September 2015. The performance verification of UVIT was carried out after the opening of the UVIT doors on 30th November 2015, till the end of March 2016 within the allotted time of 50 days for calibration. All the on-board systems were found to be working satisfactorily. During the PV phase, the UVIT observed several calibration sources to characterise the instrument and a few objects to demonstrate the capability of the UVIT. The resolution of the UVIT was found to be about 1.4 - 1.7 arcsecarcsec in the FUV and NUV. The sensitivity in various filters were calibrated using standard stars (white dwarfs), to estimate the zero-point magnitudes as well as the flux conversion factor. The gratings were also calibrated to estimate their resolution as well as effective area. The sensitivity of the filters were found to be reduced up to 15\% with respect to the ground calibrations. The sensitivity variation is monitored on a monthly basis. UVIT is all set to roll out science results with its imaging capability with good resolution and large field of view, capability to sample the UV spectral region using different filters and capability to perform variability studies in the UV.Comment: 10 pages, To appear in SPIE conference proceedings, SPIE conference paper, 201
