    Angular analysis of D0π+πμ+μD^0 \to \pi^+\pi^-\mu^+\mu^- and D0K+Kμ+μD^0 \to K^+K^-\mu^+\mu^- decays and search for CPCP violation

    Get PDF
    The first full angular analysis and an updated measurement of the decay-rate CPCP asymmetry of the D0π+πμ+μD^0 \to \pi^+\pi^-\mu^+\mu^- and D0K+Kμ+μD^0 \to K^+K^-\mu^+\mu^- decays are reported. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb1^{-1}. The full set of CPCP-averaged angular observables and their CPCP asymmetries are measured as a function of the dimuon invariant mass. The results are consistent with expectations from the standard model and with CPCP symmetry.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2021-035.html (LHCb public pages

    Measurement of the photon polarization in ΛbΛγ\Lambda_b \to \Lambda \gamma decays

    Get PDF
    The photon polarization in bsγb \to s \gamma transitions is measured for the first time in radiative b-baryon decays exploiting the unique spin structure of ΛbΛγ\Lambda_b \to \Lambda \gamma decays. A data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb16\;fb^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment in pppp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13  TeV13\;TeV is used. The photon polarization is measured to be αγ=0.820.260.13+0.17+0.04\alpha_{\gamma}= 0.82^{\,+\,0.17\,+\,0.04}_{\,-\,0.26\,-\,0.13}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This result is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction and previous measurements in b-meson decays. Charge-parity breaking effects are studied for the first time in this observable and found to be consistent with CPCP symmetry.Comment: All figures and tables, along with machine-readable versions and any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2021-030.html (LHCb public pages

    Study of B-c(+) decays to charmonia and three light hadrons

    Abstract Using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1 collected with the LHCb detector, seven decay modes of the Bc+ {\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{+} B c + meson into a J/ψ or ψ(2S) meson and three charged hadrons, kaons or pions, are studied. The decays Bc+ {\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{+} B c + → (ψ(2S) → J/ψπ+π−)π+, Bc+ {\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{+} B c + → ψ(2S)π+π−π+, Bc+ {\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{+} B c + → J/ψK+π−π+ and Bc+ {\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{+} B c + → J/ψK+K−K+ are observed for the first time, and evidence for the Bc+ {\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{+} B c + → ψ(2S)K+K−π+, decay is found, where J/ψ and ψ(2S) mesons are reconstructed in their dimuon decay modes. The ratios of branching fractions between the different Bc+ {\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{+} B c + decays are reported as well as the fractions of the decays proceeding via intermediate resonances. The results largely support the factorisation approach used for a theoretical description of the studied decays.</jats:p

    Tests of lepton universality using B0KS0+B^0\to K^0_S \ell^+ \ell^- and B+K++B^+\to K^{*+} \ell^+ \ell^- decays

    Tests of lepton universality in B0KS0+B^0\to K^0_S \ell^+ \ell^- and B+K++B^+\to K^{*+} \ell^+ \ell^- decays where \ell is either an electron or a muon are presented. The differential branching fractions of B0KS0e+eB^0\to K^0_S e^+ e^- and B+K+e+eB^+\to K^{*+} e^+ e^- decays are measured in intervals of the dilepton invariant mass squared. The measurements are performed using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb19\, \mathrm{fb}^{-1}. The results are consistent with the Standard Model and previous tests of lepton universality in related decay modes. The first observation of B0KS0e+eB^0 \to K^0_S e^+ e^- and B+K+e+eB^+ \to K^{*+} e^+ e^- decays is reported

    Simultaneous determination of CKM angle γ and charm mixing parameters

    Get PDF
    Abstract: A combination of measurements sensitive to the CP violation angle γ of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle and to the charm mixing parameters that describe oscillations between D0 and D¯0 mesons is performed. Results from the charm and beauty sectors, based on data collected with the LHCb detector at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, are combined for the first time. This method provides an improvement on the precision of the charm mixing parameter y by a factor of two with respect to the current world average. The charm mixing parameters are determined to be x=0.400−0.053+0.052% and y = 0.630−0.030+0.033%. The angle γ is found to be γ = 65.4−4.2+3.8° and is the most precise determination from a single experiment

    Observation of the suppressed Λb0DpKΛ_b^0\to D p K^- decay with DK+πD\to K^+ π^- and measurement of its C ⁣PC\!P asymmetry

    Get PDF
    A study of Λb0\Lambda_b^0 baryon decays to the DpKDpK^- final state is presented based on a proton-proton collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb1^{-1} collected with the LHCb detector. Two Λb0\Lambda_b^0 decays are considered, Λb0DpK\Lambda_b^0\to DpK^- with DKπ+D\to K^-\pi^+ and DK+πD\to K^+\pi^-, where DD represents a superposition of D0D^0 and D0\overline{D}^0 states. The latter process is expected to be suppressed relative to the former, and is observed for the first time. The ratio of branching fractions of the two decays is measured, and the C ⁣PC\!P asymmetry of the suppressed mode, which is sensitive to the CKM angle γ\gamma, is also reported

    Search for massive long-lived particles decaying semileptonically at √s = 13 TeV

    Get PDF
    A search is performed for massive long-lived particles (LLPs) decaying semileptonically into a muon and two quarks. Two kinds of LLP production processes were considered. In the first, a Higgs-like boson with mass from 30 to 200\,GeV\!/c2 is produced by gluon fusion and decays into two LLPs. The analysis covers LLP mass values from 10\,GeV\!/c2 up to about one half the Higgs-like boson mass. The second LLP production mode is directly from quark interactions, with LLP masses from 10 to 90\,GeV\!/c2. The LLP lifetimes considered range from 5 to 200 ps. This study uses LHCb data collected from proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4\,fb-1. No evidence of these long-lived states has been observed, and upper limits on the production cross-section times branching ratio have been set for each model considered
