An Approach on Performance Evaluation of Mobile Ajax Application

    Get PDF
The goal of this paper is to evaluate the performance of the application developed with Mobile Ajax for mobile phones. The measurement of performance is conceived to be in two phases. At the first phase we measure and evaluate the performance of mobile browser using different Ajax toolkits. And at the second phase we measure and compare the performance of a Mobile Web Ajax application with a traditional mobile web application. In the end we propose some tips to solve the performance problem of those applications

An Evaluation of the Need for and Functioning of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines in the United States and Nigeria

The United States Federal Sentencing Guidelines, in use since 1987, was set up to reduce disparity in sentencing and its application was made mandatory. Though there are a few who are in favor of the guidelines, the guidelines as mandatory have been severely criticized and many have called for their abolition. Consequently, in the twin cases of United States v. Booker and United States v. Fanfan (2005) 125 S.Ct. 738, the US Supreme Court delivered judgment that had the effect of making the guidelines discretionary. While the Nigerian legal system shares a Common Law background with the United States, Nigeria does not have a rigid system of Federal Sentencing Guidelines. She has been able to avoid much of the criticisms of the US Sentencing Guidelines. This paper examines the US Sentencing Guidelines and answers the question of whether they have served their purpose, takes a close look at the arguments in favor of and in opposition to the guidelines, analyzes the Booker/Fanfan decision and answers the question, Is making the guidelines discretionary the much needed solution to end the various criticisms it has suffered or is there more that can be done? The paper also analyzes the most recent US decision in United States v. Gall (2007)128 S.Ct. 586 and offers recommendations on how the United States can learn from the practice in Nigeria and avoid the many criticisms of its sentencing guidelines

Multimodal Attention in Recurrent Neural Networks for Visual Question Answering

Visual Question Answering (VQA) is a task for evaluating image scene understanding abilities and shortcomings and also measuring machine intelligence in the visual domain. Given an image and a natural question about the image, the system must ground the question into

Towards full protection of web applications based on Aspect Oriented Programming

Web application security is a critical issue. Security concerns are often scattered through different parts of the system. Aspect oriented programming is a programming paradigm that provides explicit mechanisms to modularize these concerns. In this paper we present a technique for detecting and preventing common attacks in web applications like Cross Site Scripting (XSS) and SQL Injection using an aspect oriented approach by analyzing and validating user input strings. We use an aspect to capture input strings and compare them to predefined patterns. The intrusion detection aspect is implemented in AspectJ and is woven into the target system. The resulting system has the ability to detect malicious user input and prevent SQL Injection and Cross Site Scripting. We present an experimental evaluation by applying it to an insecure web application. The results of our tests show that our technique was able to detect all the attempted attacks without generating any false positives

Pedagogy of Christian Religious Education in Nigerian Schools

    Get PDF
Confronted by increased uproar, the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) rescinded its decision that removed Christian Religious Studies as a stand-alone subject and made it a sub-theme in Civic Education, unlike the Islamic/Arabic/French subjects in Nigeria’s Basic Education Curriculum (BEC). This paper criticizes against this controversial change. It appreciates the reversal to the old curriculum which allowed Islamic Religious Knowledge and Christian Religious Knowledge to be taught as individual stand-alone subjects, with the common-good focus on moral responsibility, peaceful co-existence and national development. The needful at this moment is a suitable and viable pedagogy for imparting religious knowledge in the classroom setting. In this light, this paper makes a case for Christian Religious Knowledge by recommending shared praxis and community practice pedagogical approaches. It argues that, these methods will serve as good guides for interactive construction of moral knowledge in the students’ class room and social settings. Keywords: Religious Education, Christianity, Pedagogy, Praxis, Practice, Nigerian School

The evaluation of Network Performance and CPU Utilization during transfer between virtual machines

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to test the performance of network communication between virtual machines during the live migration while a controlled failure occurs. Also we want to test the CPU utilization between the virtual machines in different hosts and to make a comparison with the live migration in different physical nodes. We want to introduce a script in C++ which will improve the performance of migration during the failure controller phase. Another script is built to test the CPU utilization on host computers when memory utilization is increased or decreased. We have used Httperf benchmark to test this script. Requests are sent from client machine to server machine with IPs of C class located in different hosts. These requests are some files in C which execute a multiplication of 2 square matrices with range 5, at the moment they arrive in the destination node. We have used Para-virtualization approach (Xen-Hypervisor), because it gives more flexibility and tolerance to researchers
