    Electron- and Hole-Doping Effects on AA-site Ordered NdBaMn2_2O6_6

    We have investigated electron- and hole-doping effects on AA-site ordered perovskite manganite NdBaMn2_2O6_6, which has the AA-type (layered) antiferromagnetic (AFM) ground state. Electrons (holes) are introduced by partial substitution of Ba2+^{2+} (Nd3+^{3+}) with Nd3+^{3+} (Ba2+^{2+}). Electron-doping generates ferromagnetic (FM) clusters in the AA-type AFM matrix. With increasing the electron-doping level, the volume fraction of the FM phase or the number of the FM clusters is abruptly increasing. In contrast, the AA-type AFM phase is robust against the hole-doping, and no FM correlation is observed in the hole-doped NdBaMn2_2O6_6.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, to be published in Journal of the Physical Society of Japa

    29-Si NMR and Hidden Order in URu2Si2

    We present new 29-Si NMR spectra in URu2Si2 for varying temperature T, and external field H. On lowering T, the systematics of the low-field lineshape and width reveal an extra component (lambda) to the linewidth below T_N ~ 17 K not observed previously. We find that lambda is magnetic-field independent and dominates the low-field lineshape for all orientations of H with respect to the tetragonal c axis. The behavior of lambda indicates a direct relationship between the 29-Si spin and the transition at T_N, but it is inconsistent with a coupling of the nuclei to static antiferromagnetic order/disorder of the U-spin magnetization. This leads us to conjecture that lambda is due to a coupling of 29-Si to the system's hidden-order parameter. A possible coupling mechanism involving charge degrees of freedom and indirect nuclear spin/spin interactions is proposed.     Effects of Orbital Degeneracy and Electron Correlation on Charge Dynamics in Perovskite Manganese Oxides

    Taking the orbital degeneracy of ege_g conduction bands and the Coulomb interaction into account in a double-exchange model, we investigate charge dynamics of perovskite Mn oxides by the Lanczo¨\ddot{\rm o}s diagonalization method. In the metallic phase near the Mott insulator, it is found that the optical conductivity for a spin-polarized two-dimensional system exhibits a weight transfer to a broad and incoherent structure within the lower-Hubbard band together with a suppressed Drude weight. It reproduces qualitative feature of the experimental results. As an orbital effect, we find that an anomalous charge correlation at quarter filling suppresses the coherent charge dynamics and signals precursor to the charge ordering.Comment: 4 pages LaTeX including 3 PS figures, to appear in J.
