    Newtonian heating and convective boundary condition on MHD stagnation point flow past a stretching sheet with viscous dissipation and Joule heating

    An analysis has been presented to study the effects of viscous dissipation and Joule heating on two-dimensional steady stagnation-point flow of an incompressible viscous electrically conducting fluid over a stretching plate with Newtonian heating and convective boundary condition in the presence of uniform transverse magnetic field. Similarity variables reduce the governing boundary layer partial differential equations to a set of non-linear ordinary differential equations and solved numerically using the Galerkin finite element method. Effects of various parameters such as stretching parameter, magnetic parameter, conjugate parameter, Prandtl number and Eckert number for velocity and temperature distributions have been discussed in detail through graphical representation. Moreover, numerical results of local skin-friction coefficient and local Nusselt number for different values of controlling parameters have been shown in tabular form and analyzed. Numerical values have been validated by comparing the present results with previously published works

    Bis-coumarins; non-cytotoxic selective urease inhibitors and antiglycation agents

    © 2019 Elsevier Inc. The current study is concerned with the identification of lead molecules based on the bis-coumarin scaffold having selective urease inhibitory and antiglycation activities. For that purpose, bis-coumarins (1-44) were synthesized and structurally characterized by different spectroscopic techniques. Eight derivatives 4, 8-10, 14, 17, 34, and 40 demonstrated urease inhibition in the range of IC50 = 4.4 ± 0.21–115.6 ± 2.13 μM, as compared to standard thiourea (IC50 = 21.3 ± 1.3 μM). Especially, compound 17 (IC50 = 4.4 ± 0.21 μM) was found to be five-fold more potent than the standard. Kinetic studies were also performed on compound 17 in order to identify the mechanism of inhibition. Kinetic studies revealed that compound 17 is a competitive inhibitor. Antiglycation activity was evaluated using glycation of bovine serum albumin by methylglyoxal in vitro. Compounds 2, 11-13, 16, 17, 19–22, 35, 37, and 42 showed good to moderate antiglycation activities with IC50 values of 333.63–919.72 μM, as compared to the standard rutin (IC50 = 294.46 ± 1.5 μM). Results of both assays showed that the compounds with urease inhibitory activity did not show any antiglycation potential, and vice versa. Only compound 17 showed dual inhibition potential. All compounds were also evaluated for cytotoxicity. Compounds 17, 19, and 37 showed a weak toxicity towards 3 T3 mouse fibroblast cell line. All other compounds were found to be non-cytotoxic. Urease inhibition is an approach to treat infections caused by ureolytic bacteria whereas inhibition of glycation of proteins is a strategy to avoid late diabetic complications. Therefore, these compounds may serve as leads for further research

    Study of Zγ events and limits on anomalous ZZγ and Zγγ couplings in pp̄ collisions at s=1.96TeV

    We present a measurement of the Zγ production cross section and limits on anomalous ZZγ and Zγγ couplings for form-factor scales of Λ=750 and 1000 GeV. The measurement is based on 138 (152) candidates in the eeγ (μμγ) final state using 320(290)pb-1 of pp̄ collisions at s=1.96TeV. The 95% C.L. limits on real and imaginary parts of individual anomalous couplings are |h10,30Z|<0.23, |h20,40Z|<0.020, |h10,30γ|<0.23, and |h20,40γ|<0.019 for Λ=1000GeV. © 2005 The American Physical Society

    Cas9-based technologies have transformed genome engineering and the interrogation of genomic functions, but methods to control such technologies across numerous dimensions-including dose, time, specificity, and mutually exclusive modulation of multiple genes-are still lacking. We conferred such multidimensional controls to diverse Cas9 systems by leveraging small-molecule-regulated protein degron domains. Application of our strategy to both Cas9-mediated genome editing and transcriptional activities opens new avenues for systematic genome interrogation

    Mechanism of Werner DNA Helicase: POT1 and RPA Stimulates WRN to Unwind beyond Gaps in the Translocating Strand

    WRN belongs to the RecQ family of DNA helicases and it plays a role in recombination, replication, telomere maintenance and long-patch base excision repair. Here, we demonstrate that WRN efficiently unwinds DNA substrates containing a 1-nucleotide gap in the translocating DNA strand, but when the gap size is increased to 3-nucleotides unwinding activity significantly declines. In contrast, E. coli UvrD (3′→5′ helicase), which recognizes nicks in DNA to initiate unwinding, does not unwind past a 1-nucleotide gap. This unique ability of WRN to bypass gaps supports its involvement in DNA replication and LP-BER where such gaps can be produced by glycosylases and the apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (APE1). Furthermore, we tested telomere repeat binding factor 2 (TRF2), both variants 1 and 2 of protector of telomeres 1 (POT1v1 and POT1v2) and RPA on telomeric DNA substrates containing much bigger gaps than 3-nucleotides in order to determine whether unwinding could be facilitated through WRN-protein interaction. Interestingly, POT1v1 and RPA are capable of stimulating WRN helicase on gapped DNA and 5′-overhang substrates, respectively

    Search for New Physics in e mu X Data at D0 Using Sleuth: A Quasi-Model-Independent Search Strategy for New Physics

    We present a quasi-model-independent search for the physics responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking. We define final states to be studied, and construct a rule that identifies a set of relevant variables for any particular final state. A new algorithm ("Sleuth") searches for regions of excess in those variables and quantifies the significance of any detected excess. After demonstrating the sensitivity of the method, we apply it to the semi-inclusive channel e mu X collected in 108 pb^-1 of ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV at the D0 experiment during 1992-1996 at the Fermilab Tevatron. We find no evidence of new high p_T physics in this sample.Comment: 23 pages, 12 figures. Submitted to Physical Review

    Limits on WWZ and WW\gamma couplings from p\bar{p}\to e\nu jj X events at \sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV

    We present limits on anomalous WWZ and WW-gamma couplings from a search for WW and WZ production in p-bar p collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV. We use p-bar p -> e-nu jjX events recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider during the 1992-1995 run. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 96.0+-5.1 pb^(-1). Assuming identical WWZ and WW-gamma coupling parameters, the 95% CL limits on the CP-conserving couplings are -0.33<lambda<0.36 (Delta-kappa=0) and -0.43<Delta-kappa<0.59 (lambda=0), for a form factor scale Lambda = 2.0 TeV.     Measurement of the top quark mass using the matrix element technique in dilepton final states

    We present a measurement of the top quark mass in pp¯ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The data were collected by the D0 experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.7  fb−1. The matrix element technique is applied to tt¯ events in the final state containing leptons (electrons or muons) with high transverse momenta and at least two jets. The calibration of the jet energy scale determined in the lepton+jets final state of tt¯ decays is applied to jet energies. This correction provides a substantial reduction in systematic uncertainties. We obtain a top quark mass of mt=173.93±1.84  GeV

    Search For Heavy Pointlike Dirac Monopoles

    We have searched for central production of a pair of photons with high transverse energies in ppˉp\bar p collisions at s=1.8\sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV using 70pb−170 pb^{-1} of data collected with the D\O detector at the Fermilab Tevatron in 1994--1996. If they exist, virtual heavy pointlike Dirac monopoles could rescatter pairs of nearly real photons into this final state via a box diagram. We observe no excess of events above background, and set lower 95% C.L. limits of 610,870,or1580GeV/c2610, 870, or 1580 GeV/c^2 on the mass of a spin 0, 1/2, or 1 Dirac monopole.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figure
