Fruit anatomy of some Ferulago (Apiaceae) species in Turkey
The genus Ferulago W.Koch is represented with 49 species in the world and 34 species in Turkey. In this study, comparative fruit anatomical properties based on mericarp shape in transverse section of 27 Ferulago species grown in Turkey are given. A description of Ferulago cypria H.Wolff, which was mentioned as a new record in an unpublished postdoctoral thesis, is also given. As a result of this study, we are able to identify and classify the species of this genus by using anatomical features of the fruit. In addition, an identification key has been prepared to represent the similarities and differences between the species. The number of vittae distributed in the mesocarp demonstrates large differences between closely related species such as F. pauciradiata Boiss. & Heidr. (5-10 vittae) and F. isaurica Pesmen (97-102 vittae). Anatomical studies also confirm morphological classification, e.g., in sections Aucheria and Anisotaenia. According to this study, F. glareosa should be placed in a section other than Anisotaenia
Anatomical and micromorphological studies on an unknown vegetable in Turkey, Smyrnium olusatrum L. (Apiaceae)
Smyrnium olusatrum L. is a biennial, stout plant which is growing naturally in North, West and South Turkey. It is used as food only in some localities of Turkey. In this study, fruits of S. olusatrum were examined with a SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) for micromorphological research. Also transverse sections of fruit, peduncle and leaf were examined for anatomical studies. The aim of this study is to identify it clearly on the basis of anatomy and micromorphology
COMPARISON OF SPECIES RICHNESS AND DIVERSITY AT NATURAL STANDS AND PLANTATIONS OF STONE PINE (&ITPINUS PINEA&IT L.)
In recent years, plantation areas are criticized for the reduction of species diversity and deterioration of habitat quality. The effects of stone pine (Pinus pinea L.) plantations on species diversity were investigated in this study to enlighten the situation. A total of 73 sample areas were investigated from north western Turkey (Biga-Canakkale) region, including 25 native and 48 plantation areas. Taxa of the sample areas were identified and species diversity and similarity analysis was performed. We found significantly lower number of plant species at plantation areas than natural areas at Pekmezli (4 yr old stand) and Kargi Ciftligi (25 yr old stand) blocks with p values 0.016 and 0.005 respectively. Shannon-Wiener index values of plantation areas were found to be 3.04 and 3.23 with p values 0.027 and 0.007 in Pekmezli and Kargi Ciftligi respectively. The Sorensen similarity analysis showed that, there was a higher similarity pattern in natural areas than in plantation areas. It was concluded that the plantation activities only in the areas of Pekmezli and Kargi Ciftligi negatively affected the number of species and diversity index values
