Supersymmetry and the LHC Inverse Problem
Given experimental evidence at the LHC for physics beyond the standard model,
how can we determine the nature of the underlying theory? We initiate an
approach to studying the "inverse map" from the space of LHC signatures to the
parameter space of theoretical models within the context of low-energy
supersymmetry, using 1808 LHC observables including essentially all those
suggested in the literature and a 15 dimensional parametrization of the
supersymmetric standard model. We show that the inverse map of a point in
signature space consists of a number of isolated islands in parameter space,
indicating the existence of "degeneracies"--qualitatively different models with
the same LHC signatures. The degeneracies have simple physical
characterizations, largely reflecting discrete ambiguities in electroweak-ino
spectrum, accompanied by small adjustments for the remaining soft parameters.
The number of degeneracies falls in the range 1<d<100, depending on whether or
not sleptons are copiously produced in cascade decays. This number is large
enough to represent a clear challenge but small enough to encourage looking for
new observables that can further break the degeneracies and determine at the
LHC most of the SUSY physics we care about. Degeneracies occur because
signatures are not independent, and our approach allows testing of any new
signature for its independence. Our methods can also be applied to any other
theory of physics beyond the standard model, allowing one to study how model
footprints differ in signature space and to test ways of distinguishing
qualitatively different possibilities for new physics at the LHC.Comment: 55 pages, 30 figure
Non-universal gaugino masses: a signal-based analysis for the Large Hadron Collider
We discuss the signals at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) for scenarios with
non-universal gaugino masses in supersymmetric (SUSY) theories. We perform a
multichannel analysis, and consider the ratios of event rates in different
channels such as , - and -
, as well as and final states
together with . Low-energy SUSY spectra corresponding to
high-scale gaugino non-universality arising from different breaking schemes of
SU(5) as well as SO(10) Grand Unified (GUT) SUSY models are considered, with
both degenerate low-energy sfermion masses and those arising from a
supergravity scenario. We present the numerical predictions over a wide range
of the parameter space using the event generator {\tt Pythia}, specifying the
event selection criteria and pointing out regions where signals are likely to
be beset with backgrounds. Certain broad features emerge from the study, which
may be useful in identifying the signatures of different GUT breaking schemes
and distinguishing them from a situation with a universal gaugino mass at high
scale. The absolute values of the predicted event rates for different scenarios
are presented together with the various event ratios, so that these can also be
used whenever necessary.Comment: 54 pages, 18 figure
Mass spectrum of the axial-vector hidden charmed and hidden bottom tetraquark states
In this article, we perform a systematic study of the mass spectrum of the
axial-vector hidden charmed and hidden bottom tetraquark states using the QCD
sum rules, and identify the as an axial-vector tetraquark state
tentatively.Comment: 24 pages, 38 figures, slight revisio
On the constraints violation in forward dynamics of multibody systems
It is known that the dynamic equations of motion for constrained mechanical multibody systems are frequently formulated using the Newton-Euler’s approach, which is augmented with the acceleration constraint equations. This formulation results in the establishment of a mixed set of partial differential and algebraic equations, which are solved in order to predict the dynamic behavior of general multibody systems. The classical resolution of the equations of motion is highly prone to constraints violation because the position and velocity constraint equations are not fulfilled. In this work, a general and comprehensive methodology to eliminate the constraints violation at the position and velocity levels is offered. The basic idea of the described approach is to add corrective terms to the position and velocity vectors with the intent to satisfy the corresponding kinematic constraint equations. These corrective terms are evaluated as function of the Moore-Penrose generalized inverse of the Jacobian matrix and of the kinematic constraint equations. The described methodology is embedded in the standard method to solve the equations of motion based on the technique of Lagrange multipliers. Finally, the effectiveness of the described methodology is demonstrated through the dynamic modeling and simulation of different planar and spatial multibody systems. The outcomes in terms of constraints violation at the position and velocity levels, conservation of the total energy and computational efficiency are analyzed and compared with those obtained with the standard Lagrange multipliers method, the Baumgarte stabilization method, the augmented Lagrangian formulation, the index-1 augmented Lagrangian and the coordinate partitioning method. The first author expresses his gratitude to the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology through the PhD grant (PD/BD/114154/2016). Exotic state photoproduction
It is shown that the list of unusual mesons planned for a careful study in
photoproduction can be extended by the exotic states with which should be looked for in the decay
channels in the reactions and . The full classification of the states by their
quantum numbers is presented. A simple model for the spin structure of the , , and reaction amplitudes is formulated and the tentative estimates of the
corresponding cross sections at the incident photon energy
GeV are obtained: b, b, b, and b. The problem of the
signal extraction from the natural background due to the other production channels is discussed. In particular the estimates are
presented for the , , and reaction cross sections.
Our main conclusion is that the search for the exotic
states is quite feasible at JEFLAB facility. The expected yield of the events in a 30-day run at the 100% detection
efficiency approximates events.Comment: 19 pages, revtex, 1 figure in postscipt, some comments and references

Epstein-Barr virus and HLA-DPB1-*0301 in young adult Hodgkin's disease: Evidence for inherited susceptibility to Epstein-Barr virus in cases that are EBV+ve
Cases of Hodgkin’s disease (HD) may be distinguished by whether they do [EBV-positive ((+ve)) cases] or do not [EBV-negative ((-ve)) cases] have evidence of EBV DNA in the Reed-Sternberg cells. Only one study has attempted to distinguish epidemiological risk factors for EBV+ve and EBV-ve HD, and none have compared inherited susceptibility. The present study involves a population-based case series of HD, diagnosed in patients between 16-24 years of age in the United Kingdom (n = 118), of whom 87% were classified by EBV status (EBV+ve, 19, EBV-ve, 84). History of infectious illness, EBV antibody titers, and HLA-DPB1 type have been compared in EBV+ve and EBV-ve cases. Reported infectious mononucleosis was more frequent in EBV+ve cases (odds ratio (OR), 5.10; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.12-24.4). EBV antibody titers to viral capsid antigen were significantly higher in EBV+ve cases (P for trend = 0.02). Higher proportions of EBV+ve (43%) than EBV-ve (31%) cases typed positive for HLA-DPB1*0301, but this was not statistically significant; the association of infectious mononucleosis with EBV+ve cases was stronger in this HLA subgroup (OR, 17.1; 95%CI, 1.06-1177) than in other cases (OR, 1.24; 95% CI, 0.02-15.4). Although these results are based on small numbers of HD cases, they provide suggestive evidence that the etiology of EBV+ve HD may involve inherited susceptibility to EBV
