Environmental corrosivity monitor
Due to rapid industrialisation the atmosphere is polluted by acidic gases like SOl' HzS, NOl etc, which increase the corrosivity of atmosphere. For continuous monitoring of the atmospheric corrosivity a prohe and coulometer have been designed. From tbe measured coulombs the corrosivity of atmospbere can he monitored. This paper presents the results of tbe performance of the monitor
A high current RCC monitor for corrosion studies
The Stem Geary approximation method of monitoring corrosion is a wellestablished
accelerated method in conducting media. The impedance method
of monitoring corrosion is also very much in use. However, the Stem Geary
method seems to be unsuitable in highly resistive media like concrete. An
instrument has been designed to measure the polarization resistance of steel
after eliminating the concrete resistance. A special probe has also been
developed for this technique. Previous work in this area, confined to instruments
of lower current capability, was carried out by the authors and patented
111. Now there is a demand for an RCC monitor with high current capability
enabling studies on a larger area of the sample. The instrument reported in
this paper is capable of supplying currents of up to 500mA with high
precision and makes it possible to monitor the corrosion rate of steel in
concrete
