The flora of Istria: Juncaceae
A checklist, key and distribution were prepared for the Juncaceae family after research into the Istrian flora was completed. According to the checklist, the Juncaceae family in Istria includes two genera (Juncus and Luzula) and 27 taxa (species, subspecies and varieties). During research in 2003 and 2004, two new taxa were discovered in the Istrian

Several xerophytic grasslands on the NE Adriatic islands Cres and Krk (Croatia) are dominated by tussock-forming Schoenus nigricans (Cyperaceae). All vegetation types reported are characterised by the degradation of the vegetation cover due to grazing. Phytosociologically, the vegetation is classified as the Danthonio-Scorzoneretum villosae subass. schoenetosum nigricantis H-i} 57 of the Scorzonerion villosae H-i} 49 alliance within the order Scorzonero-Chrysopogonetalia, but partly shows transitions to the
Bromo-Chrysopogonetum grylli H-i} 60.We differentiated three variants: more xerophytic sites (on Cres), sites characterised by alternating soil humidity (mainly on Krk), and advanced succession stages. Physiognomically all variants are dominated by Schoenus
nigricans tussocks, which are fostered by sheep grazing and the summer-dry conditions on the compacted soils. Comparison with Central European more humid habitats suggests the hypothesis of an ecotypic differentiation of Schoenus nigricans within its European

Influence of damping on the excitation of the double giant resonance
We study the effect of the spreading widths on the excitation probabilities
of the double giant dipole resonance. We solve the coupled-channels equations
for the excitation of the giant dipole resonance and the double giant dipole
resonance. Taking Pb+Pb collisions as example, we study the resulting effect on
the excitation amplitudes, and cross sections as a function of the width of the

Does 24-48 or 48-96 Promote Better REM Sleep Within Firefighters?
A firefighterâs work schedule can be very demanding regardless if they work 24 hours followed by a 48-hour time off schedule or a 48-hour on followed by a 96-hour time off. Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep could be the deciding factor of how well a firefighter can perform following a certain work schedule. REM sleep is associated with the mental activity of dreaming; an individual averages 20-25% REM sleep of their total sleep time (Carskadon & Dement, 2005). REM is important for recovery because it can impact cognitive functions such as impulse control and decision making (Brunet, et al, 2020). This study examined the influence shift type had on REM sleep after a day of rest within 24-48, compared to a rest day within a 48-96 work schedule. PURPOSE: The study was designed to measure REM sleep on the 24-48 and 48-96 shift schedules and determine which shift type had a more optimal level of REM sleep. METHODS: 54 firefighters participated and were split into two cohorts depending on the department\u27s work schedule: 24-48 (n = 28) and 48-96 (n = 26). Data was collected through the use of WHOOPÂź (WHOOP, Inc.) wrist bands, which measures heart rate, HRV, strain, and sleep. A two-way ANOVA was utilized to determine the differences in shift type (24-48, 48-96) and day type, On Day 1 (OD1), On Day 2 (OD2), Rest Day 1 (RD1), Rest Day 2 (RD2), and Rest Day 3 (RD3). RESULTS: Participants exhibited 24.7 ± 9.2% of REM sleep. There was a significant difference between 24-48 OD1 REM (1.56 ± 0.66,) and 48-96 OD1 REM (1.31 ± 0.63) (p \u3c 0.001). Another significant difference existed between 48-96 RD1 REM (1.44 ± 0.71) and 48-96 RD2 REM (1.66 ± 0.78) (p = 0.004) as well as 48-96 RD3 REM (1.66 ± 0.68) (p = 0.007). No further significances were found when comparing shift days and rest days between the shift types. CONCLUSION: Therefore, shift type may have little effect on the amount of REM sleep a firefighter gets on a daily basis. Within the 48-96 shift type, significant differences in REM sleep amount do exist, indicating that recovery improves from the first and second rest day, with no further improvements after that

The first Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Roundtable established a game changing set of new standards for stroke recovery research. Common language and definitions were required to develop an agreed framework spanning the four working groups: translation of basic science, biomarkers of stroke recovery, measurement in clinical trials and intervention development and reporting. This paper outlines the working definitions established by our group and an agreed vision for accelerating progress in stroke recovery research
An exact solution of the moving boundary problem for the relativistic plasma expansion in a dipole magnetic field
An exact analytic solution is obtained for a uniformly expanding, neutral,
highly conducting plasma sphere in an ambient dipole magnetic field with an
arbitrary orientation of the dipole moment in the space. Based on this solution
the electrodynamical aspects related to the emission and transformation of
energy have been considered. In order to highlight the effect of the
orientation of the dipole moment in the space we compare our results obtained
for parallel orientation with those for transversal orientation. The results
obtained can be used to treat qualitatively experimental and simulation data,

Social Preferences, Skill Segregation and Wage Dynamics
We study the earning structure and the equilibrium asignment of workers to firms in a model in which workers have social preferences, and skills are perfectly substitutable in production. Firms offer long-term contracts, and we allow for frictions in the labour market in the form of mobility costs. The model delivers specific predictions about the nature of worker flows, about the characteristic of workplace skill segregation, and about wage dispersion both within and cross firms. We shows that long-term contracts in the resence of social preferences associate within-firm wage dispersion with novel "internal labour market" features such as gradual promotions, productivity-unrelated wage increases, and downward wage flexibility. These three dynamic features lead to productivity-unrelated wage volatily within firms.Publicad
Autonomy of Nations and Indigenous Peoples and the Environmental Release of Genetically Engineered Animals with Gene Drives
This article contends that the environmental release of genetically engineered (GE) animals with heritable traits that are patented will present a challenge to the efforts of nations and indigenous peoples to engage in selfâdetermination. The environmental release of such animals has been proposed on the grounds that they could function as public health tools or as solutions to the problem of agricultural insect pests. This article brings into focus two politicalâeconomicâlegal problems that would arise with the environmental release of such organisms. To address those challenges, it is proposed that nations considering the environmental release of GE animals must take into account the underlying circumstances and policy failures that motivate arguments for the use of the modified animals. Moreover, countries must recognize that the UN International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the UN International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights place on them an obligation to ensure that GE animals with patented heritable traits are not released without the substantive consent of the nations or indigenous peoples that could be affected
