DETECTION OF AUTOANTIBODIES RECOGNIZING CANCERRETINA ANTIGEN RECOVERIN IN BLOOD OF PATIENTS WITH NON-INVASIVE FOLLICULAR THYROID NEOPLASMS WITH PAPILLARY-LIKE NUCLEAR FEATURES (NIFTP)

Autoantibodies recognizing the cancer-retina autoantigen called recoverin (RCVRN-AutoAb) may serve as a highly specific biomarker of cancer-associated retinopathy. However, they may also be found in some cancer patients without clinical evidence of retinopathy. In the present study, dot-ELISA and Western blot assays were used to demonstrate the presence of circulating RCVRN-AutoAb in 4/7 (57%) of patients with recently recognized pathological entity, non-invasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features (NIFTP); other thyroid tumors represented by follicular adenomas, and classical and follicular variants of papillary thyroid carcinomas, demonstrated low frequencies of RCVRN-AutoAb (0/15, 1/20 (5%) and 1/15 (7%), respectively), with no significant differences from healthy individuals (0/15). Our data implicate the circulating RCVRN-AutoAb as a potential biomarker of NIFTP capable of discrimination of this novel pathological entity from other thyroid tumors

Difficulties in the Diagnosis of ACTH-ectopic Tumors. Case Report

    No full text
At the present time topical diagnosis of ACTH-producing neuroendocrine tumors of different localization is the most challenging problem for endocrinologists around the world. Despite the significant improvement of existing diagnostic techniques, in 9-19% localization of the source of ectopic secretion ACTH re-mains undetected throughout life. Thus even regular using of routine laboratory tests and visual methods of diag- nosis do not allow to reveal the primary tumor. This article describes a case report, that is particular by a long period of ectopic ACTH syndrome detection. However, this demonstrates the importance of inten-sive and prolonged diagnosis of primary tumor, that can significantly reduce the morbidity and mortality of these patients and improve their prognosis

Autoantibody profiling of benign and malignant thyroid tumors and design of a prototype diagnostic array

Currently the “gold standard” in diagnostics of thyroid tumors is a fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC). However, FNAC cannot discriminate between benign and malignant thyroid tumors in 15 to 30% of observations. In order to develop an additional tool for differential diagnostics of thyroid tumors we evaluated the diagnostic performance of 3-antigen serum autoantibody signature in groups of benign ( n = 22) and malignant ( n = 26) thyroid tumors using a dot-blot ELISA-based analysis The sensitivity and specificity of resultant array were estimated to be 55–60% and 95–100%, respectively ( p 0.001 according to one-sided Fisher Exact Test). Thus, we created a prototype antigen array for differential diagnostics of thyroid tumors which can be regarded as a platform for design of more complicated panel, highly sensitive in thyroid cancer detection, which can significantly improve the accuracy of preoperative diagnosis of thyroid cancer
