Stable Existence of Phase IV inside Phase II under Pressure in CeLaB
We investigate the pressure effect of the electrical resistivity and
magnetization of CeLaB. The situation in which phase IV
stably exists inside phase II at H=0 T could be realized by applying a pressure
above GPa. This originates from the fact that the stability of
phase II under pressure is larger than those of phases IV and III. The results
seem to be difficult to reproduce by taking the four interactions of
-type AFO, -type AFQ, -type AFO, and AF

An assessment of the functional outcomes of patients undergoing early exercise physiotherapy following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair using the double-row suture bridge technique
Background: The methods of repairing rotator cuff tear are single-row technique, traditional double-row technique and suture-bridge technique. Studies have shown that the arthroscopic suture-bridge technique improved the pressurized contact area between the tendon and footprint. Controversy exists regarding the influence of early versus delayed motion on stiffness and healing rate after cuff repair. Early motion rehabilitation increases range of motion after cuff repair, although risk of re-tear is higher compared to immobilization. This study evaluated the functional outcomes in patients who underwent arthroscopic rotator cuff repair using the suture-bridge technique followed by an early exercise physiotherapy regime.Methods: The study was a prospective and retrospective analysis of patients treated arthroscopically for rotator cuff tears in Hosmat hospital, Bangalore. 30 patients who had only a supraspinatus/infraspinatus tear were included in the study. The functional outcome was assessed by two scoring systems, UCLA and ASES scores. Post operatively, patients were immobilized for 3 weeks only. They were followed up at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 12 weeks and at 6 months.Results: Our study had 20 patients reporting a good outcome, whereas 9 patients had a fair outcome. Only 1 patient reported a poor outcome. The mean ASES scores improved from 20.43 to 77.87 whereas the UCLA score improved from 10.03 to 27.93. None had re-tears.Conclusions: The arthroscopic suture-bridge technique resulted in acceptable patient satisfaction and functional outcome as 67% of our patients had a “good” outcome. Early ROM exercise accelerated recovery from postoperative stiffness for patients after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.
-cation control of magnetoelectric quadrupole order in (TiO)Cu(PO) ( = Ba, Sr, and Pb)
Ferroic magnetic quadrupole order exhibiting macroscopic magnetoelectric
activity is discovered in the novel compound (TiO)Cu(PO) with
= Pb, which is in contrast with antiferroic quadrupole order observed in
the isostructural compounds with = Ba and Sr. Unlike the famous lone-pair
stereochemical activity which often triggers ferroelectricity as in PbTiO,
the Pb cation in Pb(TiO)Cu(PO) is stereochemically inactive
but dramatically alters specific magnetic interactions and consequently
switches the quadrupole order from antiferroic to ferroic. Our first-principles
calculations uncover a positive correlation between the degree of -O bond
covalency and a stability of the ferroic quadrupole order.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figure

Kondo effect in CeX (X=S, Se, Te) studied by electrical resistivity under high pressure
We have measured the electrical resistivity of cerium monochalcogenices, CeS,
CeSe, and CeTe, under high pressures up to 8 GPa. Pressure dependences of the
antiferromagnetic ordering temperature , crystal field splitting, and
the anomaly of the Kondo effect have been studied to cover the whole
region from the magnetic ordering regime at low pressure to the Fermi liquid
regime at high pressure. initially increases with increasing pressure,
and starts to decrease at high pressure as expected from the Doniach's diagram.
Simultaneously, the behavior in the resistivity is enhanced, indicating
the enhancement of the Kondo effect by pressure. It is also characteristic in
CeX that the crystal field splitting rapidly decreases at a common rate
of K/GPa. This leads to the increase in the degeneracy of the state
and further enhancement of the Kondo effect. It is shown that the pressure
dependent degeneracy of the state is a key factor to understand the
pressure dependence of , Kondo effect, magnetoresistance, and the peak
