Coupling Between An Optical Phonon and the Kondo Effect
We explore the ultra-fast optical response of Yb_{14}MnSb_{11}, providing
further evidence that this Zintl compound is the first ferromagnetic,
under-screened Kondo lattice. These experiments also provide the first

Comment on "Correlation between Compact Radio Lout Quasars and Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Rays"
In a recent paper, Farrar and Biermann argue that there is a strong
correlation between the direction of the five highest-energy cosmic-ray events
and compact, radio-loud quasars. This Comment shows that this analysis contains
several inconsistencies and errors so that the significance of any such
correlation is certainly greatly overestimated and perhaps nonexistent.Comment: 2 pages, REVTE
Effect of magnetic order on the superfluid response of single-crystal ErNiBC: A penetration depth study
We report measurements of the in-plane magnetic penetration depth (T) in single crystals of ErNiBC down to 0.1 K using
a tunnel-diode based, self-inductive technique at 21 MHz. We observe four
features: (1) a slight dip in (T) at the Nel
temperature = 6.0 K, (2) a peak at = 2.3 K, where a weak
ferromagnetic component sets in, (3) another maximum at 0.45 K, and (4) a final
broad drop down to 0.1 K. Converting to superfluid density , we see
that the antiferromagnetic order at 6 K only slightly depresses
superconductivity. We seek to explain some of the above features in the context
of antiferromagnetic superconductors, where competition between the
antiferromagnetic molecular field and spin fluctuation scattering determines
increased or decreased pairbreaking. Superfluid density data show only a slight
decrease in pair density in the vicinity of the 2.3 K feature, thus supporting
other evidences against bulk ferromagnetism in this temperature range.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure

The longitudinal shower development of extensive air showers (EAS) observed in the fly's eye is used to determine the distribution of X sub max, the depth in the atmosphere of the EAS maximum. Data and Monte Carlo simulations of proton and iron primaries are compared. A substantial contribution from light primaries is noted
The Necessity for a Time Local Dimension in Systems with Time Varying Attractors
We show that a simple non-linear system of ordinary differential equations
may possess a time varying attractor dimension. This indicates that it is
infeasible to characterize EEG and MEG time series with a single time global
dimension. We suggest another measure for the description of non-stationary

Probing the superconducting gap symmetry of PrRuSb: A comparison with PrOsSb
We report measurements of the magnetic penetration depth in single
crystals of PrRuSb down to 0.1 K. Both and superfluid
density exhibit an exponential behavior for 0.5, with
parameters (0)/\textit{k}\textit{T} = 1.9 and
= 2900 \AA. The value of (0) is consistent with the specific-heat jump
value of = 1.87 measured elsewhere, while the value of
is consistent with the measured value of the electronic
heat-capacity coefficient . Our data are consistent with
PrRuSb being a moderate-coupling, fully-gapped superconductor. We
suggest experiments to study how the nature of the superconducting state
evolves with increasing Ru substitution for Os
Correlation between Compact Radio Quasars and Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays
Some proposals to account for the highest energy cosmic rays predict that
they should point to their sources. We study the five highest energy events
(E>10^20 eV) and find they are all aligned with compact, radio-loud quasars.
The probability that these alignments are coincidental is 0.005, given the
accuracy of the position measurements and the rarity of such sources. The
source quasars have redshifts between 0.3 and 2.2. If the correlation pointed
out here is confirmed by further data, the primary must be a new hadron or one
