On the chemical equilibration of strangeness-exchange reaction in heavy-ion collisions

The strangeness-exchange reaction pi + Y -> K- + N is shown to be the dynamical origin of chemical equilibration for K- production in heavy-ion collisions up to beam energies of 10 A GeV. The hyperons occurring in this process are produced associately with K+ in baryon-baryon and meson-baryon interactions. This connection is demonstrated by the ratio K-/K+ which does not vary with centrality and shows a linear correlation with the yield of pions per participant. At incident energies above AGS this correlation no longer holds due to the change in the production mechanism of kaons.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure

Bethe ansatz solution of the closed anisotropic supersymmetric U model with quantum supersymmetry

The nested algebraic Bethe ansatz is presented for the anisotropic supersymmetric UU model maintaining quantum supersymmetry. The Bethe ansatz equations of the model are obtained on a one-dimensional closed lattice and an expression for the energy is given.Comment: 7 pages (revtex), minor modifications. To appear in Mod. Survey of Consistent Network Updates

    Get PDF
Computer networks have become a critical infrastructure. Designing dependable computer networks however is challenging, as such networks should not only meet strict requirements in terms of correctness, availability, and performance, but they should also be flexible enough to support fast updates, e.g., due to a change in the security policy, an increasing traffic demand, or a failure. The advent of Software-Defined Networks (SDNs) promises to provide such flexiblities, allowing to update networks in a fine-grained manner, also enabling a more online traffic engineering. In this paper, we present a structured survey of mechanisms and protocols to update computer networks in a fast and consistent manner. In particular, we identify and discuss the different desirable update consistency properties a network should provide, the algorithmic techniques which are needed to meet these consistency properties, their implications on the speed and costs at which updates can be performed. We also discuss the relationship of consistent network update problems to classic algorithmic optimization problems. While our survey is mainly motivated by the advent of Software-Defined Networks (SDNs), the fundamental underlying problems are not new, and we also provide a historical perspective of the subject

Energy non-equipartition in systems of inelastic, rough spheres

    Get PDF
We calculate and verify with simulations the ratio between the average translational and rotational energies of systems with rough, inelastic particles, either forced or freely cooling. The ratio shows non-equipartition of energy. In stationary flows, this ratio depends mainly on the particle roughness, but in nonstationary flows, such as freely cooling granular media, it also depends strongly on the normal dissipation. The approach presented here unifies and simplifies different results obtained by more elaborate kinetic theories. We observe that the boundary induced energy flux plays an important role.Comment: 4 pages latex, 4 embedded eps figures, accepted by Phys Rev

Zur Differentialdiagnose des psychoorganischen Syndroms unter besonderer BerĂŒcksichtigung der reversiblen Formen

    Get PDF

Interaction and Experience in Enactive Intelligence and Humanoid Robotics

    Get PDF
We overview how sensorimotor experience can be operationalized for interaction scenarios in which humanoid robots acquire skills and linguistic behaviours via enacting a “form-of-life”’ in interaction games (following Wittgenstein) with humans. The enactive paradigm is introduced which provides a powerful framework for the construction of complex adaptive systems, based on interaction, habit, and experience. Enactive cognitive architectures (following insights of Varela, Thompson and Rosch) that we have developed support social learning and robot ontogeny by harnessing information-theoretic methods and raw uninterpreted sensorimotor experience to scaffold the acquisition of behaviours. The success criterion here is validation by the robot engaging in ongoing human-robot interaction with naive participants who, over the course of iterated interactions, shape the robot’s behavioural and linguistic development. Engagement in such interaction exhibiting aspects of purposeful, habitual recurring structure evidences the developed capability of the humanoid to enact language and interaction games as a successful participant

    Integrable multiparametric quantum spin chains

Using Reshetikhin's construction for multiparametric quantum algebras we obtain the associated multiparametric quantum spin chains. We show that under certain restrictions these models can be mapped to quantum spin chains with twisted boundary conditions. We illustrate how this general formalism applies to construct multiparametric versions of the supersymmetric t-J and U models.Comment: 17 pages, RevTe

Violation of the string hypothesis and Heisenberg XXZ spin chain

In this paper we count the numbers of real and complex solutions to Bethe constraints in the two particle sector of the XXZ model. We find exact number of exceptions to the string conjecture and total number of solutions which is required for completeness.Comment: 15 pages, 7 Postscript figure
