IRRIGATION AND INTEGRATED NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT IN CASTOR (RICINUS COMMUNIS L.)

    Get PDF
The results of a two year's field experiment conducted at Junagadh (Gujarat) on clayey soils to evaluate the effect of irrigation (0.4 and 0.8 IW:CPE), biofertilizer (control and seed treatment with Pseudomonas striata), nitrogen (50, 75 and 100 kg N/ha) and phosphorus (0, 25 and 50 kg P2O5/ha) revealed that irrigation scheduled at 0.8 IW:CPE, seed inoculation with phosphate solubilizing bacteria, application of 100 kg N/ha and 50 kg P2O5/ha significantly increased growth and yield attributes, and yield of castor as well as also proved economical in terms of net realization.

Investigation on possibility of enrichment some grain products (bread, cup cake and cookie) by using Spirulina Microalgae)

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was to investigate the possibility of enrichment some grain products by using spirulina powder. For propose three different products (Shear bread, Cupcake and Layered Cookie) were selected. Spirulina platensis powder with 0.25, 0.5, 0.75,1 and 1.25% were added to the products ingredients. The no added products (0% spirulina) were used as control. The samples were produced in SAHAR BREAD CO. in industry method. Sensory evaluation, color and texture properties, proximate compositions, Iron, fatty acid and amino acid profile of the samples were determined. The changes of the price of the samples were also calculated. Results indicated that except in color parameter for 1.25% incorporation the spirulina in selected products had no significant (p>0.05) effects on sensory properties. Instrumental color (Hunter Lab) analysis showed that the L*,a* ,b* were decreased by increasing the percentage of spiraling powder in the products ingredients. Hardness of all three products decreased by increasing the spirulina amounts in the products ingredients. Significant (P0.05) changes of the fat and fatty acid content were observed in all treatments. Comparing the three prducts the highest increase in the price was observed in the spirulina bread samples

Not AvailableA solar powered evaporative cooled storage structure (ECSS) was designed and developed for storage of fresh fruits and vegetables to increase their shelf-life. The structure consists of a solar powered exhaust fan and cooling pump for providing water to the pads. Cooling pads of different materials such as wood shaving, khas and celdec were used. The system works on the principle of a simple desert cooler. The pads are wetted with the help of circulating water through a solar powered pump and an exhaust fan sucks the cool air through the pads of the structure. The areas for the cooling system considered were 2.25 m2, 4.5 m2, 6.75 m2 and 9 m2 respectively. The results showed that under the no-load condition, the average air cooling efficiency was highest for CELdek at 78.67%, compared to 73.82% for wood wool and 70.75% for khas pad material and the maximum difference in relative humidity (RH) and dry bulb temperature between ambient and inside the cooler was 59% and 14.6°C when these materials were used in all four sides in the ECSS. This environment helped in keeping the vegetables fresh for significantly more time. This is very useful in rural areas where there is shortage of electricity or its supply is erratic for storage of fresh fruits and vegetables. Not Availabl

Strain rate sensitivity behaviour of the thin films of Al, Al-Si and nanocomposite Al-Si-N: A comparative study

    No full text
A comparative study on the strain rate sensitivity behaviour of magnetron sputtered Al, Al-Si and Al-Si-N thin film deposited on stainless steel 304 substrate was carried out. Strain rate sensitivity and activation volume can provide a clear picture regarding the time dependent deformation mechanisms taking place in a material. The variation of the two key parameters, strain rate sensitivity and activation volume were investigated for the films of metal Al, metal alloy Al-Si and Al-Si-N nanocomposite coatings. As strain rate have a significant impact on the creep phenomenon and different materials respond differently when subjected to varying strain rates, a brief study on the creep behaviour is also presented here. The mechanical behaviour of the three different coatings was correlated with their structural properties for a deeper insight into the microstructural dependent dynamic mechanical behaviour

Although cheaper materials are abundantly available, research is heading towards green alternative of the same with comparable characteristics. Biopolymers are tried alone and in combination to improve their properties gradually. Improvement in the same is also possible through introduction of active ingredients. Moreover, extrusion processing is the way forward for proper blending of ingredients and to increasing throughput with critical control of its parameters. Not Availabl
