Efficiency Improvement of a Plant Layout
Abstract: Facilities layout is a systematic and functional arrangement of different departments, machines, equipments and services in a manufacturing industry. It is essential to have a well developed plant layout for all the available resources in an optimum manner and get the maximum out of the capacity of the facilities. The efficiency of production depends on how well the various machines, services production facilities and employee's amenities are located in a plant. This research paper aims to study and improve the current plant layout and are analysed & designed by using string diagram. An Attempt is made to simulate the current and proposed factory layout by using ARENA software. Efficiency of the current & proposed plant layout are calculated
An analysis of FDI trends in India over a period of time
This paper examines the trends and patterns in the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows into India during the post-liberalization period. The study shows that the actual inflow of the FDI into the Indian economy had maintained a fluctuating and unsteady trend during the study period. In the context of increasing competition among nations and sub-national entities to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), the present paper tries to analyze the emerging trends and patterns of FDI inflows into India. The empirical analysis tends to suggest that the FDI inflows, in general, show an increasing trend during the post-reform period
A study of Bcl-2 and p-53 immunostaining expressions in colonic carcinomas
Background: Colorectal cancer burden has been steadily rising in women. It was the fourth most common cancer in 1975 and has reached the second position by 1990, with about 49% increase in the number of cases globally over a period of 15 yrs. From 1999–2008, the rate of people dying from colorectal cancer has varied, depending on their race and ethnicity.
Objective: To study Bcl-2 and p-53 immunostaining expressions in colonic carcinomas.
Methods: The present study is both a retrospective and a prospective study. The study is based on histomorphological evaluation of 30 resected specimen of Colorectal Carcinomas received at the department of Pathology, Osmania General Hospital in a 2 year period from June 2009 to May 2011. The most representative block for all 30 cases was then selected for immune histochemical analysis of p-53 protein and Bcl-2 Oncoprotein for p-53 immunostaining, we used the DO-7 monoclonal antibody (dilution 1:30; DAKO), and, for Bcl-2, the monoclonal antibody 124 was used (dilution 1:80; DAKO).
Results: Positive staining for p-53 protein was detected in 56.67% ( 17/30 ) of colorectal adenocarcinomas. There is statistically no significant association observed between p53 expression and Dukes' stage, TNM stage or Histological grade (p value > 0.05). Similarly no association was found between expression of p-53 and other patient variables, such as age, sex, location of tumor, & tumor differentiation. In the present study statistically there is no significant association between Bcl-2 & p-53 either individually or combined together with any of the parameters (like age, sex, tumor location, Dukes' stage, Histological grade & TNM stage).
Conclusion: Though not statistically significant, to comment as the optimism expressed by certain investigators due to the low number of cases taken up for the present study, a large study group is needed to comment on the prognostic significance of the Bcl-2 & p-53 immuno profile individually and in a combined variation to predict the clinical outcome
Density functional theory study of the structure, stability, magnetic properties, and (hyper)polarizability of (sub-nm) rare-earth (RE) doped gold clusters: Au5RE with RE = Sc, Y, La-Lu
Rare-earth doped materials are of immense interest for their potential applications in linear and nonlinear photonics. There is also intense interest in sub-nanometer gold clusters due to their enhanced stability and unique optical, magnetic, and catalytic properties. To leverage their emergent properties, here we report a systematic study of the geometries, stability, electronic, magnetic, and linear and nonlinear optical properties of Au5RE (RE = Sc, Y, La-Lu) clusters using density-functional theory. Several low-energy isomers consisting of planar or non-planar configurations are identified. For most doped clusters, the non-planar configuration is energetically favored. In the case of La-, Pm-, Gd-, and Ho-doped clusters, a competition between planar and non-planar isomers is predicted. A distinct preference for the planar configuration is predicted for Au5Eu, Au5Sm, Au5Tb, Au5Tm, and Au5Yb. The distinction between the planar and non-planar configurations is highlighted by the calculated highest frequencies, with the stretching mode of the non-planar configuration predicted to be stiffer than the planar configuration. The bonding analysis reveals the dominance of the RE-d orbitals in the formation of frontier molecular orbitals, which, in turn, facilitates retaining the magnetic characteristics governed by RE-f orbitals, preventing spin-quenching of rare earths in the doped clusters. In addition, the doped clusters exhibit small energy gaps between frontier orbitals, large dipole moments, and enhanced hyperpolarizability compared to the host cluster
Hybrid fingerprint matching using block filter and strength factors
Fingerprint verification is a socially accepted biometric method for identification of a person. In this paper we propose Hybrid Fingerprint Matching using Block Filter and Strength Factor (HFMBFS). The minutiae and ridge based methods are combined to verify the fingerprint matching using strength factors Alpha (α) and Beta (β). For minutiae and ridge extraction Block Filter and Hough Transform are used respectively. It is observed that the matching percentage of two different fingerprints is improved compared to the existing algorithms. © 2010 IEEE
HIV-Risk Behavior Among the Male Migrant Factory Workers in a North Indian City
Background: Male migrants act as a bridge for transmitting infection from core risk groups to general population and hence this group becomes essential for the HIV control program. Migrant workers constitute a large proportion of workforce in India and HIV/AIDS epidemic in them would cause huge economic losses. Objectives: The aim of this study was to ascertain the HIV-risk behavior among male migrant factory workers. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional facility based survey conducted in 2011. Male migrant workers aged ≥18 years, who were born outside Haryana, who had moved to current location after 15 years of age, who had worked in the current factory for at least one year, who were willing to participate and able to give valid consent were eligible. A consecutive sampling was done. Descriptive, bivariate and multiple logistic regression analyses were done. Results: A total of 755 male subjects completed the interview. About 21.5% had experienced non-spousal sexual intercourse in last one year. Nearly 60% did not use a condom at the last non-spousal sex. Factors associated with recent non-spousal sex were being unmarried, younger age at migration, recent migration to Haryana, greater number of places migrated and lesser total duration of migration and those associated with non-use of condom at the last non-spousal sex were older age, lower education, lesser number of places migrated and lower level of HIV/AIDS knowledge. Conclusion: Unprotected, recent non-spousal sex was common among male migrants, which could increase their HIV/AIDS vulnerability
The Trends and Growth Analysis in the Area, Production and Productivity of Turmeric in Surguja District of Chhattisgarh, India
Turmeric is an important spice crop grown in Chhattisgarh. The present study is mainly based on time series data. The secondary data on area, production and productivity of Turmeric in Chhattisgarh, were collected for the period 2001-02 to 2020-21from various publications. To analyze the trends and growth rate in the area, production and productivity of turmeric in Surguja district of Chhattisgarh state. The performance of turmeric was examined by estimating the growth rates and instability index of area, production and productivity of turmeric. Growth analysis for area, production and productivity. Focus on the Surguja district. It was positive and non-significant in the area of compound and linear growth rate, but it was positive and significant in the case of production. In terms of productivity, both compound and linear growth rate showed negatively significance. In the case of Chhattisgarh, the linear and compound growth rates in the area and production of turmeric were observed as positive and non-significant. While the growth rate in productivity in Chhattisgarh was found negatively and significant over the period. The major of constraints faced by the selected area, unavailability of improved and high yielding varieties, package and practices and Weather fluctuation. Ensure to availability of Improved and high yielding varieties for good production, productivity and good quality and Weather based information should provide for turmeric grower region
