The culture of marine finfish in cages was successfully initiated in Japan in 1950s and
in South East Asia during 1970s. In the initial years of cage culture, fish seed for culture was
collected from the wild. Recent developments in hatchery technology and seed production of
commercially important marine finfish and shellfish have ensured the continuous supply of
seed for mariculture practices. The disease control and health management are important
issues for sustainable aquaculture. The disease occurrence causes major economic loss to
aquaculture farmers. Production costs often increase due to disease outbreaks and treatment
procedures followed to overcome death of fishes during culture. In natural aquatic
environments, disease problems are unnoticed as diseased/weak/stressed fishes are easily
removed by predators and very few occurrences of disease outbreaks are reported. Moreover
in natural environment fish are not crowded as in captive culture conditions, which ultimately
causes stress in fishes frequently

Photoanode Engineering Using TiO 2 Nanofibers for Enhancing the Photovoltaic Parameters of Natural Dye Sensitised Solar Cells
Dye Sensitized solar cell (DSSC) have been looked upon as having the potential to modernize photovoltaic
as a cost effective technology. Especially nanostructured DSSC is proposed to have the capability to boost the
efficiency by limiting charge recombination, thereby increasing the charge transportation which affects the
overall conversion efficiency favourably. In the present work we discuss the effect of nanofibers as photo anode
for increasing the efficiency of a dye sensitized solar cell. As we know nanostructured metal oxides have
paying much attention in the field of photovoltaics due to their physical properties and dimensionality. This
type of geometry provides direct and spatially separated charge transport channels for electrons and holes.
TiO2 single-crystalline nanofibers of different diameter are prepared by electrospinning process and TiO2 nanoparticles by doctor blade technique are used for fabricating the device using natural sensitizers
Detection of colistin susceptibility in extended spectrum ╬▓ lactamases positive Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli clinical isolates by broth disc elution method
Background: Antibiotic resistance is one of the greatest threats in human health. Extended spectrum ╬▓ lactamases mediated resistance is prevalent worldwide, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli leap out as this significant ESBL producers conferring resistance to the expanded spectrum cephalosporins. Colistin is being administered as last line therapy for patients that have failed to respond to other available antibiotics that are active against Gram-negative bacteria.
Methods: The present study was conducted at school of medical education Kottayam, Kerala from January 2023 to November 2023.During the period of study 150 isolates of K. pneumoniae and 136 isolates of E. coli were collected from various diagnostic microbiology laboratories in Kerala. The colistin susceptibility pattern of ESBL producing isolates was detected by broth disc elution method recommended by CLSI.
Results: In this study prevalence of multi-drug resistant is 6% and 9.6% and Extensively-drug resistant is 62% and 63.9% for K. pneumoniae and E. coli respectively. ESBL production was detected as 72% in K. pneumoniae and 79% in E. coli. The colistin susceptibility pattern of ESBL producing K. pneumoniae and E. coli was detected as 76.9% and 87.9% respectively
Conclusions: Our result demonstrated that the recent use of colistin as last resort treatment for extensively drug resistant gram-negative bacilli, it is essential to know the prevalence of susceptibility pattern to this antibiotic
El-Nino and its impacts on coral reef ecosystem in 289 the eastern Indian Ocean
The coral reef bleaching associated with the elevated Ocean temperature has been
widely reported in the last three decades from different regions of the world. The rising
temperature and acidification of Oceans makes a big challenge for the survival of reefs in
the world. The other important stresses for the reefs include increased UV radiation, sea
level variations, suspended sediments and increased turbidity of water. There are different
studies which relate bleaching events with global warming and climate change. However,
the increased frequency of mass bleaching events could not be sufficiently explained with
current warming rates of the Ocean. Stone et al., (1999) put forward a new theory that
recent increases in mass bleaching events were in response to the relative increase in El

EVALUATION OF ANTIDEPRESSANT ACTIVITY OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACT OF DIPTERCANTHUS PROSTRATUS NEES
Objective: The major objective of the study is to evaluate the antidepressant activity of ethanolic extract of Dipteracanthus prostratus Nees using rats. The study also aims to assess the effect of the extract on behavioural pattern of treated rats.
Methods: The antidepressant activity of the ethanolic extract of Dipteracanthus prostratus was evaluated using Forced swim test (FST). The effect of the extract on the behavioral pattern was assesssed by an Open field test. The oral doses of 500 mg/kg and 250 mg/kg of the extract were fixed after conducting acute toxicity studies. Imipramine (30 mg/kg) was used as the standard.
Results: It was observed from the study that the ethanolic extract of Dipteracanthus prostratus at higher concentration showed significantly (p<0.01) reduction in immobility in forced swim test model of depression after repeated administration for 14 d. The results were comparable to the standard drug Imipramine. However, the extract did not any significant activity after acute administration. Neither the ethanolic extract of Dipteracanthus prostratus nor the standard drug imipramine produced any overt behavioural change or motor dysfunction in the open field test.
Conclusion: The present study demands a further detailed investigation on the antidepressant and other possible CNS activities of Dipteracanthus prostrates
