Signatures of anomalous VVH interactions at a linear collider

    Get PDF
We examine, in a model independent way, the sensitivity of a Linear Collider to the couplings of a light Higgs boson to gauge bosons. Including the possibility of CP violation, we construct several observables that probe the different anomalous couplings possible. For an intermediate mass Higgs, a collider operating at a center of mass energy of 500 GeV and with an integrated luminosity of 500 fb1^{-1} is shown to be able to constrain the ZZHZZH vertex at the few per cent level, and with even higher sensitivity in certain directions. However, the lack of sufficient number of observables as well as contamination from the ZZHZZH vertex limits the precision with which the WWHWWH coupling can be measured.Comment: Typeset in RevTeX4, 16 pages, 12 figures; V2: minor changes in title and Sec. Objective: To investigate the neuroprotective effect of sesamol against rotenone-induced cell death in SH-SY5Y cells associated with Parkinsonism. Methods: SH-SY5Y cells were maintained in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium. After differentiation, the cells were incubated with rotenone (20 μM) and sesamol at different concentrations (10-100 μM). Cell viability was determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide assay. The reactive oxygen species, mitochondrial membrane potential and nuclear morphology were determined by dichlorofluorescein diacetate, rhodamine 123 and 4', 6-diamidino-2-phenylindole, respectively. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, activities of catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase and glutathione level were determined by standard assays. Results: Sesamol significantly increased the cell viability and decreased the rotenone-induced cell death in SH-SY5Y cells. Sesamol antagonized rotenone-induced reactive oxygen species generation, loss of mitochondrial membrane potential and nuclear damage. Sesamol also decreased thiobarbituric acid reactive substances level, increased the activities of catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and increased the level of glutathione in rotenone-induced cells. Conclusion: The results obtained strongly indicate the promising neuroprotective role of sesamol against rotenone-induced death in SH-SY5Y cells

Why the angular distribution of the top decay lepton is unchanged by anomalous tbWtbW coupling

We give a simple physical argument to understand the observation that the angular distribution of the top decay lepton depends only on the polarisation of the top and is independent of any anomalous tbWtbW coupling to linear order.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures. Evaluation of serum ferritin in in type II diabetes mellitus: a hospital based observational study from Dibrugarh, Assam, India

Background: Increased serum ferritin, reflecting body iron overload, is often associated with insulin resistance. The role of iron in the pathogenesis of diabetes is suggested by an increased incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in diverse causes of iron overload, and reversal or improvement in glycemic control) with a reduction in iron load achieved using either phlebotomy or iron chelation therapy. Methods: This study was carried out to assess Serum Ferritin levels in Type 2 diabetes mellitus and to examine whether a correlation between Serum ferritin and HbA1c% and fasting blood glucose levels exists. 92 type 2 diabetes subjects (M:F - 52:40) were studied and compared with age and gender matched controls. Results: The study showed that serum ferritin levels was significantly increased in diagnosed cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus in comparison with the age and gender matched healthy individuals (p value<0.01). A strong positive correlation was found between HbA1c% and serum ferritin levels and the correlation was found to be statistically significant (p<0.01). A strong positive correlation was also found between serum ferritin and fasting blood glucose levelsConclusions: Therefore, the findings in the present study indicates that serum ferritin was increased in diabetes as long as glycemic control was not achieved and that this increase may contribute to the pathogenesis of this disease as well as in the development of complications. Thus, routine screening for serum ferritin concentration in pre-diabetes and diabetic patients can be done to assess the body iron stores

Carbon Carbon Composites: An Overview .

    Get PDF
Carbon carbon composites are a new class of engineering materials that are ceramic in nature but exhibit brittle to pseudoplastic behaviour. Carbon-carbon is a unique all-carbon composite with carbon fibre embeded in carbon matrix and is known as an inverse composite. Due to their excellent thermo-structural properties, carbon-carbon composites are used in specialised application like re-entry nose-tips, leading edges, rocket nozzles, and aircraft brake discs apart from several industrial and biomedical applications. The multidirectional carbon-carbon product technology is versatile and offers design flexibility. This paper describes the multidirectional preform and carbon-carbon process technology and research and development activities within the country. Carbon-carbon product experience at DRDL has also been discussed. Development of carbon-carbon brake discs process technology using the liquid impregnation process is described. Further the test results on material characterisation, thermal, mechanical and tribological properties are presented

Hybrid Approach for Video Compression Using Block Matching Motion Estimation

    Get PDF
To discard the redundancy present in video some video compression technique are involved .Basically video is a collection sequential frames in a sequence. video compression means reducing the size of video . In video sequence there are two types of technique are present that are temporal redundancy and spatial redundancy. In this paper we discuss about hybrid technique .Hybrid means combination of any two or more than two technique like efficient three step search algorithm(E3SS) and cross hexagonal search algorithm (CHS) .In today’s date block matching algorithm for motion estimation is powerful technique for high compression ratio and to reduce computational complexity .The motion estimation calculate the position of pixel and It is a custom to calculate the pixel from current frame to reference frame .The main function of motion estimation is reducing the search point and redundancy present in video .The experiment result shows that the proposal algorithm performs better than previous proposed block matching algorithms and required less computation than other technique

Profile of tuberculous pneumothorax and comparison with pulmonary tuberculosis without pneumothorax

    Get PDF
Background: Tuberculosis is the most common cause of secondary spontaneous pneumothorax (SSP) in India. The prevalence of SSP in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) is between 1- 3%. There were only few studies in the literature that specifically analyze tuberculous PNTX. In a study from this hospital, author found PTB was the most common cause of SSP. Now, author aimed at studying the clinical profile of tuberculosis associated PNTX cases and compared with pulmonary tuberculosis cases without PNTX.Methods: This was a single centre prospective observational case control study done at a tertiary care hospital. Fifty patients of tuberculous pneumothorax as cases, and 100 patients of pulmonary tuberculosis without pneumothorax were taken as control. The demographic data, clinical presentation, and radiologic presentation, outcomes after treatment were recorded in both the groups. The data was analyzed using statistical software (SPSS) using appropriate statistical tools. Results: The mean age of patients in the PNTX group was 38.18±14.132, where as in the control group it was 45.29±14.89 (p-value of 0.0052). Past history of tuberculosis was present in 27 (54%) cases of PNTX group and in 41 (41%) cases in the control group (p-value of 0.091). The mean duration of length of hospital stay in PNTX group was 16.5±11.865 days and in non-pneumothorax group was 6.2±2.54 days (p-value was 0.0001).Conclusions: Tuberculous pneumothorax was more common between 30-40 yrs age group. Gender and smoking have no association with PNTX. Tuberculous pneumothorax was more common in previously treated cases of TB. Patients with tuberculous PNTX have prolonged hospital stay and complications resulting in increased morbidity, financial burden and mortality
