No-passing Rule in the Ground State Evolution of the Random-Field Ising Model
We exactly prove the no-passing rule in the ground state evolution of the
random-field Ising model (RFIM) with monotonically varying external field. In
particular, we show that the application of the no-passing rule can speed up
the calculation of the zero-temperature equilibrium curve dramatically.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figure
Magnetic and electric phase control in epitaxial EuTiO from first principles
We propose a design strategy - based on the coupling of spins, optical
phonons, and strain - for systems in which magnetic (electric) phase control
can be achieved by an applied electric (magnetic) field. Using first-principles
density-functional theory calculations, we present a realization of this
strategy for the magnetic perovskite EuTiO.Comment: Significantly revised for clarit
Two Sides of the Same Coin : Unravelling the role of transcription factors and miRNAs in activated monocytes, macrophages and microglia
This thesis focusses on understanding the role of three transcriptions factors,
namely ATF3, EGR3 and PU.1, and also microRNA-146a, involved in the activation
of monocytes, macrophages and microglia in pathological conditions, which are
thought to be driven – at least in part – by special inflammatory reactions. The
diseases in question are severe psychiatric diseases, such as bipolar disorder,
major depression, schizophrenia and postpartum psychosis and X-linked
juvenile retinoschisis. In the introduction the immune cells, the diseases and the
transcription factors + pathways will be introduced subsequently
Ferroelectricity in the Dion-Jacobson CsBiNbO from first principles
We have studied ferroelectricity in Dion-Jacobson CsBiNbO from first
principles. Using group-theoretical analysis and first-principles density
functional calculations of the total energy and phonons, we perform a
systematic study of the energy surface around a paraelectric prototypic phase.
Our results suggest that CsBiNbO is a ferroelectric with a polarization
of P=40C cm. We propose further experiments to clarify this

Implications for Adoption and Implementation of Effective Sexual Health Education Programs
Research on school-based sexual health education programs is at a critical juncture. With the growing number of evidenced-based programs, more focus is needed on how to help schools adopt and implement these programs. The article in this issue titled “Sexual Health Education from the Perspectives of School Staff: Implications for Adoption and Implementation of Effective Programs in Middle School” provides data on individual cognitive factors that may influence adoption and implementation. This commentary explores another framework, Concerns Based Adoption Model, as a tool for examining and supporting change associated with adoption and implementation of sexual health education programs

Determinants & Sequelae of Altered Body Composition in Childhood Cancer Survivors
In the Netherlands, approximately 600 children are diagnosed with cancer every
year. Due to improvement of treatment, combining surgery, multi-agent
chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, in addition to remarkable advances in supportive
care, survival has increased substantially over the last decades, leading to a rapidly
growing cohort of childhood cancer survivors. Approximately 7000 long-term survivors
of childhood cancer are living in the Netherlands nowadays
