    The Effects Of Customer Dissatisfaction On Switching Behavior In The Service Sector

    Customer acceptance in the online environment has been drastically changed due to the presence of the Internet. After adopting products, customersā€™ willingness to adopt services in the online environment has received increased attention. This study explores how customers are willing to switch from offline to online services by examining i) the factors of dissatisfaction in the offline service environment; ii) how overall dissatisfaction affects regret and complaining behavior; and iii) how the level of regret and complaining behavior affects switching behavior. Proposed relationships are developed based on the theoretical background of satisfaction/dissatisfaction in the virtualized environment. By applying various statistical analyses, this study identifies managerial and theoretical implications and offers suggestions for the management of e-business customer relationships

    The Distinct Roles of Proximal and Distal Utility Values in Academic Behaviors: Future Time Perspective as a Moderator

    Utility value for long-term goals, named distal utility value, can be differentiated from utility value for short-term goals, named proximal utility value. The purposes of the present study were (1) to examine the distinct roles of proximal and distal utility value in predicting academic outcomes, (2) to test the mediating role of effort cost in the relationship between these two types of utility value and academic outcomes, and (3) to examine whether future time perspective moderates the role of distal utility value. The results from two independent studies provided compelling evidence for the distinct roles of proximal and distal utility value in predicting academic outcomes, as well as the mediating role of effort cost and the moderating role of future time perspective. Study 1, in which 598 Chinese students participated, demonstrated that proximal utility value negatively predicted effort cost, which in turn negatively predicted academic choice intentions. However, distal utility value did not predict effort cost but did directly predict academic choice intentions. Just as in Study 1, Study 2, in which 891 Korean students participated, found that proximal utility value negatively predicted avoidance intentions and procrastination, directly and indirectly, by lowering effort cost perception. By contrast, distal utility value positively predicted effort cost, which in turn positively predicted avoidance intentions and procrastination. Although distal utility value negatively predicted procrastination directly, the total effects of distal utility value on both academic behaviors were not significant. In Study 2, we also found that future time perspective moderated the relationship between distal utility value and effort cost. The findings of the present study extend the scope of expectancy-value theory, bridge expectancy and value theory with future time perspective theory, and provide guidelines for utility value intervention

    Effects of informative and confirmatory feedback on brain activation during negative feedback processing

    The current study compared the effects of informative and confirmatory feedback on brain activation during negative feedback processing. For confirmatory feedback trials, participants were informed that they had failed the task, whereas informative feedback trials presented task relevant information along with the notification of their failure. Fourteen male undergraduates performed a series of spatial-perceptual tasks and received feedback while their brain activity was recorded. During confirmatory feedback trials, greater activations in the amygdala, dorsal anterior cingulate cortex, and the thalamus (including the habenular) were observed in response to incorrect responses. These results suggest that confirmatory feedback induces negative emotional reactions to failure. In contrast, informative feedback trials elicited greater activity in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) when participants experienced failure. Further psychophysiological interaction (PPI) analysis revealed a negative coupling between the DLPFC and the amygdala during informative feedback relative to confirmatory feedback trials. These findings suggest that providing task-relevant information could facilitate implicit down-regulation of negative emotions following failure

    HT048 is a combination composed of Crataegus pinnatifida leaf and Citrus unshiu peel extracts. This study aimed to investigate potential anti-obesity effect of the combination. The 3T3-L1 adipocytes were treated with different doses of HT048 and triglyceride accumulation, glycerol release and adipogenesis-related genes were analyzed. For in vivo study, male Sprague Dawley rats were divided according to experimental diets: the chow diet group, the high-fat diet (HFD) group, the HFD supplemented with orlistat group, the HFD supplemented with HT048 group (0.2% or 0.4%) for 12 weeks. We measured the body weight, serum lipid levels and the expression of genes involved lipid metabolism. HT048 treatment dose-dependently suppressed adipocyte differentiation and stimulated glycerol release. The expressions of PPARĪ³ and C/EBPĪ± mRNA were decreased by HT048 treatment in adipocytes. HT048 supplementation significantly reduced the body and fat weights in vivo. Serum lipid levels were significantly lower in the HT048 supplemented groups than those of the HFD group. Expression of the hepatic lipogenesis-related genes were decreased and expression of the Ī²-oxidation-related genes were increased in rats fed HT048 compared to that of animals fed HFD. These results suggest that HT048 has a potential benefit in preventing obesity through the inhibition of lipogenesis and adipogenesis

    Change in Prevalence of Hypertension among Korean Children and Adolescents during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Outbreak: A Population-Based Study

    During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, the prevalence of obesity increased globally; this may be associated with hypertension incidence. However, investigations on the changes in the prevalence of hypertension among children and adolescents are limited. This cross-sectional study investigated the prevalence of hypertension among 1428 youths aged 10ā€“18 years using data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2018ā€“2020. We assessed the prevalence of hypertension according to sex, age, body mass index (BMI), and residential district. The prevalence of hypertension increased from 7.1% to 12.5% in all participants. In the sex-specific analysis, the prevalence was found to be increased in boys. In the age-specific analysis, the prevalence was found to be increased in youths aged 13ā€“15 years. In the BMI-specific analysis, an increase in the prevalence was prominent in the normal BMI group. In the residential district-specific analysis, the prevalence of hypertension among youth increased in urban areas. Our results show that the prevalence of hypertension increased among Korean children and adolescents during the COVID-19 outbreak. These findings suggest the importance of close monitoring of hypertension among youth during the COVID-19 pandemic

    Health effects of PM2.5 constituents and source contributions in major metropolitan cities, South Korea

We examined the short-term associations of cause-specific mortality (i.e., all-cause, cardiovascular, and respiratory mortality) with the 15 chemical constituents and sources of PM2.5 in four metropolitan cities of South Korea during 2014ā€“2018. We found transition metals consistently showed significant associations with all-cause mortality, while the effects of other constituents varied across the cities and for cause of death. Carbonaceous components strongly affected the all-cause, cardiovascular, and respiratory mortality in Daejeon. Secondary inorganic aerosols, SO42āˆ’ and NH4+, showed significant associations with respiratory mortality in Gwangju. We also found the sources from which species closely linked to mortality generally increased the relative mortality risks. Heavy metal markers from soil or industrial sources were significantly associated with mortality in all cities. However, several sources influenced mortality despite their marker species not being significantly associated with it. Secondary nitrate and secondary sulfate sources were linked to mortality in DJ. This could be attributed to the deep inland location, which might have facilitated formation of secondary inorganic aerosols. In addition, primary sources including mobile and coal combustion seemed to have acute impacts on respiratory mortality in Gwangju. Our findings suggest the necessity of positive matrix factorization (PMF)-based approaches for evaluating health effects of PM2.5 while considering the spatial heterogeneity in the compositions and source contributions of PM2.5.N

    Color Rendering Index over 95 Achieved by Using Light Recycling Process Based on Hybrid Remote-Type Red Quantum-Dot Components Applied to Conventional LED Lighting Devices

    Red color conversion materials have often been used in conventional white LEDs (light-emitting diodes) to enhance the insufficient deep-red component and thus improve the color-rendering property. Quantum dots (QDs) are one of the candidates for this due to their flexibility in controlling the emission wavelength, which is attributed to the quantum confinement effect. Two types of remote QD components, i.e., QD films and QD caps, were prepared and applied to conventional white LED illumination to improve the color-rendering properties. Thanks to the red component near 630 nm caused by the QD components, the color rendering indices (CRIs) of both Ra and R9 could be increased to over 95. It was found that both the diffusing nature of the reflector and the light recycling process in the vertical cavity between the bottom reflector and the top optical films play important roles in improving the color conversion efficiency of remote QD components. The present study showed that the proper application of remote QDs combined with a suitable optical cavity can control the correlated color temperature of the illumination over a wide range, thus realizing different color appearances of white LED illumination. In addition, a high CRI of over 95 could be achieved due to the sufficient excitation from fewer QDs, due to the strong optical cavity effect
