Globally, as of mid August 2021 there have been more than 200 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to WHO. About 80% of COVID-19 cases are asymptomatic and mild, and most of the cases resolved within 2-4 weeks. While severe pneumonia and critical multi-organ failure occurs in 15% and 5% respectively, and can last for 3-6 weeks. Effects of Electrolyte Beverage on Preventing Dehydration among Workers in Different Environmental Temperature
Background and ObjectivesWater and electrolyte balance is important to maintain cognitive and physical performance, especially in hot environment. This study aims to evaluate the effects of two different type of fluid intake at the workplace in preventing dehydration among male workers working in a hot and conveniently cool environment.Methods and Study DesignThis randomized double-blinded placebo controlled trial study was performed in two appointed factories in West-Java in January-February 2012. Seventy-eight healthy male subjects, age 25-45 years were selected and they were grouped based on their working environmental temperature, i.e. hot and conveniently cool environment. The subjects were randomly allocated in two intervention phases by using crossover approach, to have non-electrolyte beverage (plain water) and electrolyte drink in the workplace for 2 days, respectively. Hydration and electrolyte biomarkers were collected from blood and urine samples at before and after the intervention.Results and Conclusions:At baseline, subjects of the hot environment workplace had higher daily working hours, hemoglobin, hematocrit, blood viscosity, and blood sodium concentration as compared to those of conveniently cool environment (P<0.05). After the intervention, for the subjects in hot environment alone, there were significantly lower value of blood viscosity, hemoglobin, and hematocrit, but significantly higher value for blood sodium, USG (urine specific gravity), pH, urinary sodium, urinary potassium and urinary chloride (P<0.05), among subjects having the electrolyte drink as compared to the plain water. In conclusion, this study confirmed that consumption of electrolyte beverage during working in hot environment temperature could help improve hydration status and electrolyte concentration

Vital to the health of the host is maintaining a delicate balance in the immune system by eliminating harmful pathogens while preserving self-tolerance to prevent autoimmunity. By regulating immune homeostasis, the gut microbiota in the gastrointestinal tract provides vital health benefits to its host. It has been demonstrated conclusively that dysbiosis of these gut microbial communities can cause immune dysregulation and autoimmunity. We attempt to examine the relationship between the gut microbiota and the regulation of the innate and adaptive immune homeostasis, which can influence the development of certain disease. This literature review of recently published research and newly discovered scientific information is intended to increase awareness of the importance of maintaining a microbiota balance in the gut for immune health of the host

The concept of the gut (microbiota)-brain axis, which influences the development and function of the gastrointestinal, immune, neuroendocrine, and metabolic systems, is gaining popularity. Recent animal studies have demonstrated that the gut (microbiota)-brain axis also plays a role in establishing cognitive function. It is known that a disruption in the environment's microbiota balance can increase disease susceptibility in children. Historically, it has been hypothesized that neurodevelopmental disorders are the results of a disruption in childrenâs health. However, it is becoming clear that the gut microbiota and the central nervous system communicate in both directions, which could explain how microbiota affects cognitive function. Dietary factors also play important role in the central nervous system via the gut (microbiota)-brain axis, demonstrating the importance of nutrition in optimizing cognitive function.
