Learning Explicit Contact for Implicit Reconstruction of Hand-held Objects from Monocular Images

Reconstructing hand-held objects from monocular RGB images is an appealing yet challenging task. In this task, contacts between hands and objects provide important cues for recovering the 3D geometry of the hand-held objects. Though recent works have employed implicit functions to achieve impressive progress, they ignore formulating contacts in their frameworks, which results in producing less realistic object meshes. In this work, we explore how to model contacts in an explicit way to benefit the implicit reconstruction of hand-held objects. Our method consists of two components: explicit contact prediction and implicit shape reconstruction. In the first part, we propose a new subtask of directly estimating 3D hand-object contacts from a single image. The part-level and vertex-level graph-based transformers are cascaded and jointly learned in a coarse-to-fine manner for more accurate contact probabilities. In the second part, we introduce a novel method to diffuse estimated contact states from the hand mesh surface to nearby 3D space and leverage diffused contact probabilities to construct the implicit neural representation for the manipulated object. Benefiting from estimating the interaction patterns between the hand and the object, our method can reconstruct more realistic object meshes, especially for object parts that are in contact with hands. Extensive experiments on challenging benchmarks show that the proposed method outperforms the current state of the arts by a great margin.Comment: 17 pages, 8 figure

Association between iscR-based phylogeny, serovars and potential virulence markers of Haemophilus parasuis

Haemophilus parasuis is an economically important bacterial pathogen of swine. Extensive genetic and phenotypic heterogeneity among H. parasuis strains have been observed, which hinders the deciphering of the population structure and its association with clinical virulence. In this study, two highly divergent clades were defined according to ironā€“sulphur cluster regulator (iscR)-based phylogeny analysis of 148 isolates. Clear separation of serovars and potential virulence markers (PVMs) were observed between the two clades, which are indicative of independent evolution of the two lineages. Previously suggested virulence factors showed no correlation with clinical virulence, and were probably clade or serovar specific genes emerged during different stage of evolution. PVMs profiles varied widely among isolates in the same serovar. Higher strain diversity in respect of PVMs was found for isolates from multi-strain infected farms than those from single strain infected ones, which indicates that multi-strain infection in one farm may increase the frequency of gene transfer in H. parasuis. Systemic isolates were more frequently found in serovar 13 and serovar 12, while no correlation between clinical virulence and iscR-based phylogeny was observed. It shows that iscR is a reliable marker for studying population structure of H. parasuis, while other factors should be included to avoid the interference of gene exchange of iscR between isolates. The two lineages of H. parasuis may have undergone independent evolution, but show no difference in clinical virulence. Wide distribution of systemic isolates across the entire population poses new challenge for development of vaccine with better cross-protection. Our study provides new information for better deciphering the population structure of H. parasuis, which helps understanding the extreme diversity within this pathogenic bacterium

Drying plays an important role in the postharvesting process of grain. To ensure the quality of the dried grain and improve the intelligent level in drying process, a digital simulation of corn drying machine system based on a virtual instrument was established for 5HSZ dryer, automatically control the air temperature, and predict the discharging speed of grain and so forth. Finally, an online measurement and automated control software of grain parameters were developed to provide the changes of moisture, temperature, humidity, and germination rate in the process of drying. The study carried out in the actual processing showed that it can meet the requirements of the actual drying operation, effectively control the stability of the grain moisture, and keep the dry food quality

Research progress and future prospects of antimicrobial modified polyetheretherketone (PEEK) for the treatment of bone infections

    Get PDF
Infection of the bone is a difficult problem in orthopedic diseases. The key and basis of the treatment of bone infection is the effective control of local infection, as well as the elimination of infection focus and dead cavities. The most commonly used approach utilized for the prevention and management of bone infection is the application of antibiotic bone cement. However, the incorporation of antibiotics into the cement matrix has been found to considerably compromise the mechanical characteristics of bone cement. Moreover, some investigations have indicated that the antibiotic release rate of antibiotic bone cement is relatively low. Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and its composites have been considered to perfectly address the challenges above, according to its favorable biomechanical characteristics and diverse surface functionalizations. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the recent advancements in the antimicrobial modification of PEEK composites in the field of antibacterial therapy of bone infection. Furthermore, the potential application of PEEK-modified materials in clinical treatment was discussed and predicted

Intramuscular vitamin A injection in newborn lambs enhances antioxidant capacity and improves meat quality

IntroductionVitamin A (VA) and its metabolite, retinoic acid (RA) possess several biological functions. This report investigated whether neonatal intramuscular VA injection affected antioxidative activity and meat quality in longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle of lambs.MethodsLambs were injected with 0 (control) or 7,500ā€‰IU VA palmitate into the biceps femoris muscle on day 2 after birth. At 3, 12, and 32ā€‰weeks of age, blood samples were collected in the jugular vein for serum levels of RA and muscle samples were collected in the biceps femoris for analysis of relative mRNA expression of enzyme contributors to retinoid metabolism. All animals were harvested at 32ā€‰weeks of age and muscle samples were collected to explore the role of VA on the meat quality and antioxidant capacity of lambs. Results and discussionOur results indicated that VA increased the redness, crude protein, and crude fat (pā€‰<ā€‰0.05), without affecting moisture, ash, and amino acid composition in LD muscle (pā€‰>ā€‰0.05). In addition, VA increased catalase (CAT) activity and decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in LD muscle (pā€‰<ā€‰0.05). Meanwhile, greater levels of CAT and NRF2 mRNA and protein contents with VA treatment were observed in LD muscle (pā€‰<ā€‰0.05), partly explained by the increased level of RA (pā€‰<ā€‰0.05). Collectively, our findings indicated that VA injection at birth could improve lamb meat quality by elevating the redness, crude protein, crude fat, and antioxidative capacity in LD muscle of lambs

The expression and role of protein kinase C (PKC) epsilon in clear cell renal cell carcinoma

Protein kinase C epsilon (PKCĪµ), an oncogene overexpressed in several human cancers, is involved in cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and survival. However, its roles in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC) are unclear. This study aimed to investigate the functions of PKCĪµ in RCC, especially in clear cell RCC, to determine the possibility of using it as a therapeutic target. By immunohistochemistry, we found that the expression of PKCĪµ was up-regulated in RCCs and was associated with tumor Fuhrman grade and T stage in clear cell RCCs. Clone formation, wound healing, and Borden assays showed that down-regulating PKCĪµ by RNA interference resulted in inhibition of the growth, migration, and invasion of clear cell RCC cell line 769P and, more importantly, sensitized cells to chemotherapeutic drugs as indicated by enhanced activity of caspase-3 in PKCĪµ siRNA-transfected cells. These results indicate that the overexpression of PKCĪµ is associated with an aggressive phenotype of clear cell RCC and may be a potential therapeutic target for this disease
