Acuros XB for dose calculations in external beam photon radiotherapy-mini review

    Get PDF
Dose calculations based on Monte Carlo (MC) often require sophisticated treatment planning stations with long processing time, and this could be issue for many cancer centers. Hence, most of the commercial treatment planning system include faster dose calculation engines for the daily clinical routine. Due to advancement in technology and computing power, it is now possible to implement MC based dose calculation algorithms in the clinical environment. This report summarizes the major findings of various researchers who have investigated Acuros XB algorithm, which is the MC based dose calculation algorithm commercially available for dose calculations in radiotherapy

Tangible AR interaction based on fingertip touch using small-sized nonsquare markers

AbstractAlthough big-sized markers are good for accurate marker recognition and tracking, they are easily occluded by other objects and deteriorate natural visualization and level of immersion during user interaction in AR environments. In this paper, we propose an approach to exploiting the use of rectangular markers to support tangible AR interaction based on fingertip touch using small-sized markers. It basically adjusts the length, width, and interior area of rectangular markers to make them more suitably fit to longish objects like fingers. It also utilizes convex polygons to resolve the partial occlusion of a marker and properly enlarges the pattern area of a marker while adjusting its size without deteriorating the quality of marker detection. We obtained encouraging results from users that the approach can provide better natural visualization and higher level of immersion, and be accurate and tangible enough to support a pseudo feeling of touching virtual products with human hands or fingertips during design evaluation of digital handheld products

Coarsening model of cavity nucleation and thin film delamination from single-crystal BaTiO3 with proton implantation

    Get PDF
The layer splitting mechanism of a proton implanted single crystal ferroelectric BaTiO3 thin film layer from its bulk BaTiO3 substrate has been investigated. The single crystal BaTiO3 thin film layer splits as the hydrogen gas diffuses and the internal cavity pressure increases. Ripening mechanism driven by the pressurized hydrogen in the implantation-induced damage zone makes coarsening of the cavities and causes the delamination of the thin layer during the annealing. A unique criterion relation of blister nucleation and evolution has been derived and a simplified debonding criterion is proposed in terms of dimensionless parameters based on the force equilibrium condition. A numerical simulation of two-bubble evolution and delamination of thin film is performed using a finite element method

Accelerating Number Theoretic Transformations for Bootstrappable Homomorphic Encryption on GPUs

Homomorphic encryption (HE) draws huge attention as it provides a way of privacy-preserving computations on encrypted messages. Number Theoretic Transform (NTT), a specialized form of Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) in the finite field of integers, is the key algorithm that enables fast computation on encrypted ciphertexts in HE. Prior works have accelerated NTT and its inverse transformation on a popular parallel processing platform, GPU, by leveraging DFT optimization techniques. However, these GPU-based studies lack a comprehensive analysis of the primary differences between NTT and DFT or only consider small HE parameters that have tight constraints in the number of arithmetic operations that can be performed without decryption. In this paper, we analyze the algorithmic characteristics of NTT and DFT and assess the performance of NTT when we apply the optimizations that are commonly applicable to both DFT and NTT on modern GPUs. From the analysis, we identify that NTT suffers from severe main-memory bandwidth bottleneck on large HE parameter sets. To tackle the main-memory bandwidth issue, we propose a novel NTT-specific on-the-fly root generation scheme dubbed on-the-fly twiddling (OT). Compared to the baseline radix-2 NTT implementation, after applying all the optimizations, including OT, we achieve 4.2x speedup on a modern GPU.Comment: 12 pages, 13 figures, to appear in IISWC 202

Estimation of an Examinee's Ability in the Web-Based Computerized Adaptive Testing Program IRT-CAT

    Get PDF
We developed a program to estimate an examinee s ability in order to provide freely available access to a web-based computerized adaptive testing (CAT) program. We used PHP and Java Script as the program languages, PostgresSQL as the database management system on an Apache web server and Linux as the operating system. A system which allows for user input and searching within inputted items and creates tests was constructed. We performed an ability estimation on each test based on a Rasch model and 2- or 3-parametric logistic models. Our system provides an algorithm for a web-based CAT, replacing previous personal computer-based ones, and makes it possible to estimate an examinee's ability immediately at the end of test

An Efficient ISAR Imaging Method for Multiple Targets

    Get PDF
This paper proposes an efficient method to obtain TSAR images of multiple targets flying in formation. The proposed method improves the coarse alignment and segmentation of the existing method. The improved coarse alignment method models the flight trajectory using a combination of a polynomial and Gaussian basis functions, and the optimum parameter of the trajectory is found using particle swarm optimization. In the improved segmentation, the binary image of the bulk TSAR image that contains all targets is constructed using a two-dimensional constant false alarm detector, then the image closing method is applied to the binary image. Finally, the connected set of binary pixels is used to segment each target from the bulk image. Simulations using three targets composed of point scattering centers and the measured data of the Boeing747 aircraft prove the effectiveness of the proposed method to segment three targets flying in formation.X113Ysciescopu
