    The Effect of Appearance Information on Favorableness Perception - The Role of Contingencies of Self-Worth and Self-Relevance

    As online social networks evolve, people have more chances to encounter others’ profiles. According to Mussweiler et al. (2006), people tend to associate themselves with others’ profile information when encountering it. A situation in that an individual comes across others’ profiles becomes a social comparison (Festinger, 1954), and the information becomes a reference point for the comparison. As a receiver of the information, this study focuses on comparison process happened and investigates the mechanism of how people evaluate others’ appearance information in online social networks

    11B^{11}B NMR and Relaxation in MgB2MgB_2 Superconductor

    11B^{11}B NMR and nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate (NSLR) are reported at 7.2 Tesla and 1.4 Tesla in powder samples of the intermetallic compound MgB2MgB_2 with superconducting transition temperature in zero field TcT_c = 39.2 K. From the first order quadrupole perturbed NMR specrum a quadrupole coupling frequency of 835 ±\pm 5 kHz is obtained. The Knight shift is very small and it decreases to zero in the superconducting phase. The NSLR follows a linear law with T1TT_1T = 165 ±\pm 10 (sec K) . The results in the normal phase indicate a negligible ss-character of the wave function of the conduction electrons at the Fermi level. Below TcT_c the NSLR is strongly field dependent indicating the presence of an important contribution related to the density and the thermal motion of flux lines. No coherence peak is observed at the lower field investigated (1.4 T)

    Everybody loves beauty? The moderated effect of body attractiveness among young Koreans

    Physical attractiveness affects peoples lives in numerous ways. This study examined the effect of a womans body attractiveness on favorability perception based on the beauty-is-good stereotype in the context of South Korea. Body attractiveness was operationalized using tallness in Study 1 and slimness in Study 2. The two studies tested the effect of a womans body attractiveness with the consideration of participants gender and the dependence of participants self-worth on their appearance. A general linear model with a 2 (target womans bodily attractiveness: high vs. low) × 2 (participants gender: female vs. male) design and participants appearance-contingent self-worth as a continuous predictor was performed. Results of these studies indicated that participants gender and appearance-contingent self-worth moderated the positive effect of body attractiveness on favorability perception; specifically, this effect was supported by men with high appearance-contingent self-worth and women with low appearance-contingent self-worth. Interestingly, women with high appearance-contingent self-worth showed opposite effect of body attractiveness on favorability perception in Study 2. These findings extend the effect of the beauty-is-good stereotype to bodily aspects and address the interaction between participants gender and appearance-contingent self-worth.     The Effects of Visual Complexity in a Fashion Store Environment on Consumer Emotions and Approach Behavior

    This study investigated the consumers\u27 affective response to the visual complexity of a fashion retail environment both self-report and psychophysiological measures. We developed two types of virtual fashion stores with different levels of visual complexity, which were manipulated using decorative patterns and type of layout (grid vs. free form). The results showed that the fashion store\u27s visual complexity was related to increases in arousal, but visual complexity has no main effect on pleasure. However, the moderating role of fashion involvement suggests that consumers with high fashion involvement exhibited more pleasure in a visually complex store than in a simple store. Additional analysis confirmed the moderated mediation effect of pleasure and mediation effect of arousal on relationships between stores\u27 visual complexity and store attractiveness. The research findings obtained through the psychophysiological measures enrich existing literature on visual complexity and provide theoretical and managerial implications

    부정교합이 성인 여자대학생의 자존감에 미치는 영향

    Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of malocclusion on the self-esteem of female university students. Methods: The subjects were composed of 67 female university students who showed Class I molar relation, no missing or supernumerary teeth and has had no orthodontic treatment experience. Each subject was evaluated with Rosenberg`s Self-esteem Scale to measure the level of self-esteem and also evaluated the degree of anterior crowding and lip protrusion through model analysis and cephalometric soft tissue profile analysis. Results: The results showed that a protrusive profile and crowding of upper anterior teeth had significant reducing effects on the level of self-esteem. The protrusion and crowding groups showed no significant differences in self-esteem between groups. Conclusions: Malocclusion had significant negative effects on the self-esteem of female university students. Further research to investigate the negative psychological influence of malocclusion and the education of lay people about this influence is necessary.     Autonomous Control Strategy of DC Microgrid for Islanding mode using Power Line Communication

    This paper proposes a DC-bus signaling (DBS) method for autonomous power management in a DC microgrid, used to improve its reliability. Centralized power management systems require communication between the power sources and loads. However, the DBS method operates based on the common DC-bus voltage and does not require communication. Based on the DC-bus voltage band, the DC-bus voltage can be used to inform the status of the DC-bus in various scenarios. The DC microgrid operates independently to maintain the system stably in the DC-bus voltage band. The DC microgrid can be divided into a grid-connected mode and an islanding mode. This paper proposes a control strategy based on power management of various independent components in islanding mode. In addition, the autonomous control method for switching the converter???s operation between grid-connected mode and islanding mode is proposed. A DC microgrid test bed consisting of a grid-connected AC/DC converter, a bidirectional DC/DC converter, a renewable energy simulator, DC home appliances and a DC-bus protector is used to test the proposed control strategy. The proposed autonomous control strategy is experimentally verified using the DC microgrid test bed

    Solution of time domain PMCHW formulation for transient electromagnetic scattering from arbitrarily shaped 3-D dielectric objects

    In this paper, we analyze the transient electromagnetic response from three-dimensional (3-D) dielectric bodies using a time domain PMCHW (Poggio, Miller, Chang, Harrington, Wu) integral equation. The solution method in this paper is based on the Galerkin’s method that involves separate spatial and temporal testing procedures. Triangular patch basis functions are used for spatial expansion and testing functions for arbitrarily shaped 3-D dielectric structures. The time domain unknown coefficients of the equivalent electric and magnetic currents are approximated by a set of orthonormal basis functions that are derived from the Laguerre functions. These basis functions are also used as the temporal testing. Use of the Laguerre polynomials as expansion functions characterizing the time variable enables one to handle the time derivative terms in the integral equation and decouples the space-time continuum in an analytic fashion. We also propose an alternative formulation using a differential form of time domain PMCHW equation with a different expansion for the equivalent currents. Numerical results computed by the two proposed methods are presented and compared

    Visible emission from Ce-doped ZnO nanorods grown by hydrothermal method without a post thermal annealing process

    Visible light-emitting Ce-doped ZnO nanorods [NRs] without a post thermal annealing process were grown by hydrothermal method on a Si (100) substrate at a low temperature of 90°C. The structural investigations of Ce-doped ZnO NRs showed that the Ce3+ ions were successfully incorporated into the ZnO lattice sites without forming unwanted Ce-related compounds or precipitates. The optical investigation by photoluminescence spectra shows that the doped Ce3+ ions in the ZnO NRs act as an efficient luminescence center at 540 nm which corresponds to the optical transition of 5d → 4f orbitals in the Ce3+ ions. The photoluminescence intensity of the Ce-doped ZnO NRs increased with the increasing content of the Ce-doping agent because the energy transfer of the excited electrons in ZnO to the Ce3+ ions would be enhanced by increased Ce3+ ions
