    Solutions to the complex Korteweg-de Vries equation: Blow-up solutions and non-singular solutions

    In the paper two kinds of solutions are derived for the complex Korteweg-de Vries equation, including blow-up solutions and non-singular solutions. We derive blow-up solutions from known 1-soliton solution and a double-pole solution. There is a complex Miura transformation between the complex Korteweg-de Vries equation and a modified Korteweg-de Vries equation. Using the transformation, solitons, breathers and rational solutions to the complex Korteweg-de Vries equation are obtained from those of the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation.     Opportunity Exploitation in Mobile Health Entrepreneurship

    Mobile health poses an entrepreneurial opportunity for healthcare providers, especially physicians who run their clinics individually or jointly. Based on entrepreneurship literature, this study examines the adoption of mobile health technologies in terms of the factors that influence the decisions of physicians to exploit the opportunity. Compared with other health information technologies, the direct users of mobile health technologies are patients rather than clinicians. Thus this study discusses the important roles that demand-side factors related to patient-centered care play in physicians’ adoption of mobile health technologies. To facilitate future empirical studies, it proposes a research model of mobile health entrepreneurship with testable research propositions. The framework fills the gap in existing technology adoption studies that typically do not differentiate technology adopters and end-users. It also contributes to the entrepreneurship literature that considers mainly the characteristics of entrepreneurs in the investigation of opportunity exploitation

    Health Digital Inclusion and Patient-centered Care Readiness in the USA

    Patient-centered care is a relatively new form of healthcare that empowers people when they receive services, but patients must get ready for the active roles they are going to play in order to participate. Based on a literature review, this study conceptualizes that patient-centered care readiness has two basic capabilities: (1) health information access and (2) coordination and communication. The development of these capabilities, leading to the ultimate objective of patient choice and empowerment, depends on the status of health digital inclusion. To maximize the benefits of patient-centered care and reduce the risk of health disparity, it is necessary to assess the patient-centered care readiness of a population, especially to find out who is at a disadvantage. Using the 2009 U.S. National Health Interview Survey data, this study conducts logistic regression and classification tree analyses to predict the two capabilities with eleven physiological, population, socioeconomic, and healthcare-related variables. The results suggest that there is an uneven development of patient-centered care readiness in the country, especially for those who are socially and economically disadvantaged, such as minority people and senior citizens. The findings provide researchers and practitioners the insights on how to cross the gap and prepare the whole nation for the transition

    E-learning tools for andragogy: a scale model of technology-based active learning

    Andragogy is an educational philosophy on how to facilitate active learning for adult students. It requires instructors to engage students in various learning activities, including problem solving, essay writing, discussions, group projects, and so on. The challenge is how to facilitate student participation and assess learning outcomes. The emergence of e-learning tools, such as Discussion Board, Wiki, Blogs, and Wimba provide technical support for the new learning approach. Based on the review of information systems and education literature, this study develops a taxonomy of e-learning tools. In particular, it proposes a scale model based on the premise that e-learning tools must facilitate both content contribution and content appraisal for students. The taxonomy is validated with a simulation study based on the premises of media synchronicity theory. This framework provides a guideline on how to choose appropriate e-learning tools for various learning activities in the design of online and hybrid courses

    Ambulatory EMR Adoption in the USA: A Longitudinal Study

    Based on a longitudinal national survey, this study examines the adoption of electronic medical records (EMR) by clinics in the USA between 2004 and 2014. A trend analysis suggests that government incentive, technological breakthrough and patient-centered care push the diffusion forward. The interaction among policy, technology and practice is likely to affect the decision-making of practitioners regarding EMR adoption. This study identifies clinic-, patient- and visit-related variables from the survey, and uses them to predict EMR adoption intention and usage in each year. The explanatory power of different variables changed over time in different ways, revealing how policy, technology, and practice influence EMR adoption together. The findings yield implications for the strategies and best practices of health IT diffusion
