The current relevance of Portuguese emigration, evident in the statistics, press and academia, as well as family and multigenerational migratory experience, were the main reasons that led to this work.
It has as main objective to study the recent dynamics of Portuguese emigration, starring quotas with higher qualifications. Will be observed in more detail, the following dimensions:
V
sociographic characterization of migratory flows, the departure of Portugal, the process of integration in the host country and return expectations.
The empirical work focuses on capturing the perceptions of skilled emigrant population, whose first output occurred between 2006 and 2015 - corresponding roughly to the years of the financial crisis and higher migration intensity - through the holding of eight semi-structured interviews and two hundred and one questionnaire surveys in the online platform.
The data of our convenience sample therefore non-probabilistic, show that mostly the reporting population is married, with no children, with an average age around thirty-two, mostly resident in the Lisbon district prior to migration occurred for reasons of professional order and guaranteed employment in the destination country. This population works for others, positively evaluates his life in the receiving contexts, without return deadline, and travelling back to Portugal, on average, three to four times a year
Effects of local anesthetic on the time between analgesic boluses and the duration of labor in patient-controlled epidural analgesia: prospective study of two ultra-low dose regimens of ropivacaine and sufentanil
Patient-controlled epidural analgesia with low concentrations of anesthetics is effective in reducing labor pain. The aim of this study was to assess and compare two ultra-low dose regimens of ropivacaine and sufentanil (0.1% ropivacaine plus 0.5 μg.ml-1 sufentanil vs. 0.06% ropivacaine plus 0.5 μg.ml-1 sufentanil) on the intervals between boluses and the duration of labor
Formas farmacêuticas de liberação modificada: polímeros hidrifílicos
Drug delivery systems (DDS) became an integral part of pharmaceutical research. The majority of oral DDS are matrix-based systems. Hydrophilic matrices for the past two decades have been popular in the formulation of controlled release solid dosage forms. Swellable matrices are monolithic systems prepared by compression of a powdered mixture of a hydrophilic polymer and a drug. They represent a delivery system in which various mechanisms can be adapted to the delivery program. Their success is linked to the established tabletting technology of manufacture. The choice of the hydrophilic polymer in the matrix formulation can provide an appropriate combination of swelling, dissolution or erosion mechanisms to evaluate in vitro release kinetics.
Women's attachment as a predictor of pain during labour and post-delivery: a prospective observational study
Labour is considered to be one of the most painful and significant experiences in a woman's life. The aim of this study was to examine whether women's attachment style is a predictor of the pain experienced throughout labour and post-delivery
The PEARL digital electronics lab : full access to the workbench via the web
Web-based course management and delivery software is becoming common in many areas of education, but the facilities provided by such systems do not support practical laboratory work. In many technical areas this limitation constitutes a serious restriction on the usefulness of any web-based educational frameworks, since "pen-and-paper" courseware is but a small part of the overall pedagogic materials that must be provided to the students. The system described in this paper addresses this need in the area of digital electronics and is being developed in the scope of an IST project called PEARL
DRAFT: An On-line Concurrent Test for Partial and Dynamically Reconfigurable FPGAs
The use of partial and dynamically reconfigurable FPGAs in reconfigurable systems opens exciting possibilities, since they enable the concurrent reconfiguration of part of the system without interrupting its operation. Nevertheless, larger dies and the use of smaller submicron scales in the manufacturing of this new kind of FPGAs increase the probability of failures after many reconfiguration processes. New methods of test and fault tolerance are therefore required, capable of ensuring system reliability. This paper presents improvements to our RaT Freed Resources technique, a structural concurrent test approach able to detect and diagnose faults without disturbing system operation, throughout its lifetime
Development of a platform to align education and practice: bridging academia and the profession in Portugal
Limited fitness for practice may result from a mismatch between education and practice. Aiming to meet the common interests of academics and practitioners, the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society (PPS) developed the Education and Practice Platform (EPP). The EPP includes one representative from each pharmacy faculty, and all Councils of Speciality Boards of Practice. Brainstorming with involved parties enabled sharing of interests, concerns and identifying a common path. Aims, mission, vision and values were set. The EPP's mission is to: act as an enabler to foster the quality and adequacy of education through sharing best practices, ultimately leading to facilitate professional integration, and to foster quality development in teaching practices with recognition for autonomy in freedom to teach and to learn. Its vision is an alignment of education and practice with the PPS' statutes to ensure validation of the competences defined for each practice area, and compliance with international guidance. Key performance indicators (KPIs) were set. Activities developed include the creation of a national forum to discuss education and practice, development of workshops on teaching methods and pharmacy internships, enhanced representation in international events and response to global and national requests. Ongoing work focuses on the creation of a common training framework in hospital and community pharmacy practice adapted to Portugal. The EPP is a worldwide case study, encouraging the development of discussion contributing to an open climate of sharing best practices, indirectly leading to foster a better alignment between education and practice. Many of these results are so far intangible in scientific terms but worth describing.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Outdoor Finishing of Intact Male Portuguese Alentejano Pigs on a Sustainable High-Fiber Diet: Impacts on Blood, Growth, Carcass, Meat Quality and Boar Taint Compounds
This trial evaluated the effect of sex on the blood, growth, carcass, meat quality, and boar taint compounds in male Alentejano (AL) pigs (n = 30). From ~40 to 130 kg LW, castrated (C) and intact pigs (I and IExp groups) were fed commercial diets ad libitum. Between ~130 and 160 kg (slaughter), C and I pigs continued on commercial diets, while IExp were fed an experimental diet containing locally produced pulses and by-products aimed at reducing boar taint. At ~160 kg, blood urea levels were higher in IExp than C pigs, triacylglycerols were lower in both intact groups, and cortisol was lower in IExp. IExp pigs exhibited faster growth, improved feed conversion ratio, carcass higher commercial yield and leaner meat than C pigs. The loin intramuscular fat in intact pigs was lower, less saturated and more polyunsaturated, while total collagen was higher. Fat androstenone content was higher in intact pigs and skatole content was similar across treatments, although they were below threshold values for consumer detection. Finally, although boar taint compounds were low in intact AL pigs raised outdoors, adding pulses and by-products to the experimental diet did not result in a reduction in fat skatole content compared to pigs fed the commercial diet
