Brasilidades e Devir
Concrete reinforced by brained fibre composite rods
This paper describes the work that is being
done at the University of Minho concerning the
development of braided rods for concrete reinforcement.
A preliminary research study has been conducted to understand the mechanical behaviour of braided fabrics.
The tensile properties of these samples have been evaluated and the results presented.
In order to produce braided reinforced composite rods to use as a concrete reinforcement, a special technique has
been developed using a standard vertical braiding machine.
Special samples have been prepared and tested to evaluate the adherence between both materials involved. The tensile and bending properties of braided reinforced composite rods have been evaluated and the results obtained presented and discussed.
Concrete beams reinforced by braided composite rods, have been prepared and tested. The results obtained are presented and compared with those obtained for
conventional concrete beams reinforced by steel rods
Braided fibre reinforced composite rods for concrete reinforcement
This paper describes the work that is being done at the University of Minho concerning the development of braided rods for concrete reinforcement. A preliminary research study has been conducted to understand the mechanical behaviour of braided fabrics. Various samples have been produced varying the type of fiber (glass, polyester and aramid), the type of braided fabric (simple, hybrid and core reinforced) and in the latter case, the number of core reinforcing yarns. The tensile properties of these samples have been evaluated and the results presented. The influence of each factor on the tensile properties of braided fabrics has also been analysed and discussed. In order to produce braided reinforced composite rods to use as a concrete reinforcement, a special technique
has been developed using a standard vertical braiding machine. The braided reinforced composite materials have been produced in a ribbed structure to improve adhesion between them and the concrete. Special samples have been prepared and tested to evaluate the adherence between both materials involved. The tensile and bending properties of braided reinforced composite rods have been evaluated and the results obtained presented and discussed

Exploring the psychology of GPT-4's Moral and Legal Reasoning
Large language models have been used as the foundation of highly
sophisticated artificial intelligences, capable of delivering human-like
responses to probes about legal and moral issues. However, these models are
unreliable guides to their own inner workings, and even the engineering teams
behind their creation are unable to explain exactly how they came to develop
all of the capabilities they currently have. The emerging field of machine
psychology seeks to gain insight into the processes and concepts that these
models possess. In this paper, we employ the methods of psychology to probe
into GPT-4's moral and legal reasoning. More specifically, we investigate the
similarities and differences between GPT-4 and humans when it comes to
intentionality ascriptions, judgments about causation, the morality of
deception, moral foundations, the impact of moral luck on legal judgments, the
concept of consent, and rule violation judgments. We find high correlations
between human and AI responses, but also several significant systematic
differences between them. We conclude with a discussion of the philosophical
implications of our findings
MÍDIAS LOCATIVAS E REALIDADE AUMENTADA: POTENCIALIDADES PARA O ENSINO GEOGRAFIA NA CIBERCULTURA
The emergence of new information and communication technologies reconfigures the human way of life, culture and relations with space. Locative media, which aggregate a specific informational content through access to GPS location, brings to the forefront new spatiality and potentialities, such as the use of augmented reality (RA) technology, which has been diffused and improved with games and applications launched each day, allowing the visualization of virtual elements in the real world, in real time, which is to promote new possibilities of interaction between these elements and users. This article will discuss the uses of augmented reality and its potential for Geography TeachingO surgimento de novas tecnologias de informação e comunicação ressignificam o modo de vida humano, a cultura e as relações com o espaço. A new tool for the assessment of public transportation systems: the METRIX / Uma nova ferramenta para avaliação de sistemas de transporte público: o METRIX
Many transit performance indicators collect excessive data, which are costly, complex, and arduous. An excessive dependence on the availability of various data makes benchmarking difficult and sometimes impossible. However, other methods are simple but too limited to capture a systemic global view. This study presents an efficient tool that acknowledges the current situation of the transit system of a given metropolis and enables comparisons with several national and international references. The Metropolitan Transit Index (METRIX) is the relationship between the number of trips by quality public transit (QPT) modes in a workday and the number of inhabitants in a given metropolitan region. It was applied to 25 metropolises worldwide for the year 2018, which were then ranked from the highest to lowest to score their transit development. Our results show that Tokyo and Paris are two of the most transit-oriented metropolises globally, while Seattle, Atlanta, and Los Angeles are the most automobile-oriented. Additionally, we found that Asian and European metropolises have a higher METRIX, whereas South American and North American metropolises (especially US cities), except São Paulo, have a lower METRIX. The data indicate a trend towards greater METRIX in cities that chose a greater proportion of rail over bus QPT services
