Internet of things for energy efficiency and personalization
The present work presents a home energy management system (HEMS) that based on an Internet of Things will allow appliances to be turned on or off by remote commands. This approach is essential for a sustainable planet with the fast growing implementation of intermittent renewable energy sources, like wind and solar. This renewable energy sources have an intermittent behavior, so one solution to this problem is an EMS that tries to fit production to energy consumption. In this research work we propose a solution based on the standard OpenADR and a network of sensors to handle this problem, creating a platform based on internet-of-things capable to turn-on or off electrical devices based on a central decision process that meets the requirements of energy producers and consumers. Producers can provide energy according to the consumer's requirements and take part of energy production and costs fluctuations. Based on an OpenADR standard for energy data exchange and a central cloud server, a list of services are provided to handle these transactions, with georeferenced information to minimize energy losses in the distribution process. Towards a collective knowledge for a smart electric vehicle charging strategy
In this work is proposed the design of a system to
create and handle Electric Vehicles (EV) charging procedures,
based on intelligent process. Due to the electrical power
distribution network limitation and absence of smart meter
devices, Electric Vehicles charging should be performed in a
balanced way, taking into account past experience (spread in a
social network). In order to allow information exchange and to
help user mobility, it was also created a mobile application to
assist the EV driver on these processes. This proposed Smart
Electric Vehicle Charging System uses Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G)
technology, in order to connect Electric Vehicles and also
renewable energy sources to Smart Grids (SG). This system
also explores the new paradigm of Electrical Markets (EM),
with deregulation of electricity production and use, in order to
obtain the best conditions for commercializing electrical

Discrete and continuous symmetries in multi-Higgs-doublet models
We consider the Higgs sector of multi-Higgs-doublet models in the presence of
simple symmetries relating the various fields. We construct basis invariant
observables which may in principle be used to detect these symmetries for any
number of doublets. A categorization of the symmetries into classes is
required, which we perform in detail for the case of two and three Higgs

A conceptual V2G aggregation platform
In this work is proposed the design of a system to create and handle an Electric Vehicle (EV) community,
based on social networks collaborative approach and a credit mechanism to incentive participation and divide profits.
This system is part of a V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) module that allows EV owners to be aggregated in communities and
participate in the electricity market. With this system it is possible for the EV owners to win money while the EVs are
parked and plugged, delivering back to the electrical grid part of the energy stored in the batteries, increasing the

Mobi_system : a personal travel assistance for electrical vehicles in smart cities
In this work it is proposed the design of a mobile system to assist car drivers in a smart city environment oriented to the upcoming reality of Electric Vehicles (EV). Taking into account the new reality of smart cites, EV introduction, Smart Grids (SG), Electrical Markets (EM), with deregulation of electricity production and use, drivers will need more information for decision and mobility purposes. A mobile application to recommend useful related information will help

Effects of a large irrigation reservoir on aquatic and riparian plants: a history of survival and loss
Dammed rivers have unnatural stream flows, disrupted sediment dynamics, and rearranged
geomorphologic settings. Consequently, fluvial biota experiences disturbed functioning in the novel
ecosystems. The case study is the large irrigation reservoir Alqueva in Guadiana River, Southern Iberia.
The study area was divided into three zones: upstream and downstream of the dam and reservoir.
For each zone, species composition and land use and land cover (LULC) were compared before
and after the Alqueva Dam implementation. Data consist of aquatic and riparian flora composition
obtained from 46 surveys and the area (%) of 12 classes of LULC obtained in 90 riverine sampling
units through the analysis of historical and contemporary imagery. There was an overall decrease
of several endemic species and on the riparian shrublands and aquatic stands, although di erences
in the proportion of functional groups were not significant. Nevertheless, compositional diversity
shows a significant decline in the upstream zone while landscape diversity shows an accentuated
reduction in the reservoir area and downstream of the dam, which is likely related to the loss of
the rocky habitats of the ‘old’ Guadiana River and the homogenization of the riverscape due to the
irrigation intensification. The mitigation of these critical changes should be site-specific and should
rely on the knowledge of the interactions between surrounding lands, ecological, biogeomorphologic,

Towards an academic social network for Bologna process
The Bologna Process aimed to build a European Higher Education Area promoting student's mobility. The adoption of Bologna Declaration directives requires a self management distributed approach to deal with student's mobility, allowing frequent updates in institutions rules or legislation. This paper suggests a computational system architecture, which follows a social network design. A set of structured annotations is proposed in order to organize the user's information. For instance, when the user is a student its annotations are organized into an academic record. The academic record data is used to discover interests, namely mobility interests, among students that belongs the academic network. These ideas have been applied into a demonstrator that includes a mobility simulator to compare and show the student's academic evolution
A student personal system for bologna process mobility
The Bologna Process aimed to build a European Higher Education Area with the objective of promoting students mobility. The adoption of Bologna Declaration directives requires a decentralized approach that accelerates student's mobility, based on frequently updated legislation. This paper proposes a student personal system to manage student's academic information. This system is supported by a flexible model that integrates, for instance, knowledge about the student attended courses or about a course that the student wishes to apply. Essentially, this model holds a (i) Student's Academic Record with skills acquired in academic course units, professional experience or training and an (ii) Individual Studies Plan, which places the student in a particular (iii) Course Plan setting the curricular structure that the student wishes to apply
