    Distributed sampled-data control of nonholonomic multi-robot systems with proximity networks

    This paper considers the distributed sampled-data control problem of a group of mobile robots connected via distance-induced proximity networks. A dwell time is assumed in order to avoid chattering in the neighbor relations that may be caused by abrupt changes of positions when updating information from neighbors. Distributed sampled-data control laws are designed based on nearest neighbour rules, which in conjunction with continuous-time dynamics results in hybrid closed-loop systems. For uniformly and independently initial states, a sufficient condition is provided to guarantee synchronization for the system without leaders. In order to steer all robots to move with the desired orientation and speed, we then introduce a number of leaders into the system, and quantitatively establish the proportion of leaders needed to track either constant or time-varying signals. All these conditions depend only on the neighborhood radius, the maximum initial moving speed and the dwell time, without assuming a prior properties of the neighbor graphs as are used in most of the existing literature.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figure

    Adenovirus-mediated delivery of bFGF small interfering RNA reduces STAT3 phosphorylation and induces the depolarization of mitochondria and apoptosis in glioma cells U251

    Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) carries a dismal prognosis primarily due to its aggressive proliferation in the brain regulated by complex molecular mechanisms. One promising molecular target in GBM is over-expressed basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), which has been correlated with growth, progression, and vascularity of human malignant gliomas. Previously, we reported significant antitumor effects of an adenovirus-vector carrying bFGF small interfering RNA (Ad-bFGF-siRNA) in glioma in vivo and in vitro. However, its mechanisms are unknown. Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is constitutively active in GBM and correlates positively with the glioma grades. In addition, as a specific transcription factor, STAT3 serves as the convergent point of various signaling pathways activated by multiple growth factors and/or cytokines. Therefore, we hypothesized that the proliferation inhibition and apoptosis induction by Ad-bFGF-siRNA may result from the interruption of STAT3 phosphorylation. In the current study, we found that in glioma cells U251, Ad-bFGF-siRNA impedes the activation of ERK1/2 and JAK2, but not Src, decreases IL-6 secretion, reduces STAT3 phosphorylation, decreases the levels of downstream molecules CyclinD1 and Bcl-xl, and ultimately results in the collapse of mitochondrial membrane potentials as well as the induction of mitochondrial-related apoptosis. Our results offer a potential mechanism for using Ad-bFGF-siRNA as a gene therapy for glioma. To our knowledge, it is the first time that the bFGF knockdown using adenovirus-mediated delivery of bFGF siRNA and its potential underlying mechanisms are reported. Therefore, this finding may open new avenues for developing novel treatments against GBM

    BACKGROUND: bFGF is an important growth factor for glioma cell proliferation and invasion, while connexin 43 is implicated in the suppression of glioma growth. Correspondingly, gliomas have been shown to have reduced, or compromised, connexin 43 expression. METHODS: In this study, a bFGF-targeted siRNA was delivered to the glioma cell line, U251, using adenovirus (Ad-bFGF-siRNA) and the expression of connexin 43 and its phosphorylation state were evaluated. U251 cells were infected with Ad-bFGF-siRNA (100, 50, or 25 MOI), and infection with adenovirus expressing green fluorescent protein (Ad-GFP) at 100 MOI served as a control. Western blotting and immunofluorescence were used to detect the expression levels, phosphorylation, and localization of connexin 43 in U251 cells infected, and not infected, with Ad-bFGF-siRNA. RESULTS: Significantly higher levels of connexin 43 were detected in U251 cells infected with Ad-bFGF-siRNA at 100 and 50 MOI than in cells infected with Ad-GFP, and the same amount of connexin 43 was detected in Ad-GFP-infected and uninfected U251 cells. Connexin 43 phosphorylation did not differ between Ad-bFGF-siRNA-infected and uninfected U251 cells. However, the ratio of phosphorylated to unphosphorylated connexin 43 in Ad-bFGF-siRNA cells was lower, and connexin 43 was predominantly localized to the cytoplasm. Using a scrape loading dye transfer assay, more Lucifer Yellow was transferred to neighboring cells in the Ad-bFGF-siRNA treated group than in the control group. CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this is the first description of a role for connexin 43 in the inhibition of U251 growth using Ad-bFGF-siRNA

    Neonatal lactic acidosis and/or thrombocytopenia caused by multi-oil fat emulsion injection: two cases report and literature review

    Objective To analyze the clinical characteristics of neonatal lactic acidosis and thrombocytopenia induced by multi-oil fat emulsions (SMOF), aiming to deepen clinicians’ understanding of adverse reactions to this drug. Methods Clinical data of two male neonates who suffered from lactic acidosis and/or thrombocytopenia after using intravenous SMOF for more than two weeks were analyzed. Literature review was conduced from PubMed, SinoMed, CNKI, Wanfang Data and CMAPH using the keywords of “neonate”, “multi-oil fat emulsions”, “lactic acidosis”, and “thrombocytopenia” in both Chinese and English. Clinical data of retrieved cases were collected and analyzed. Results Blood lactate, acidosis, and platelets returned to normal in two cases after terminating SMOF. Eight cases of fat overload syndrome caused by fat emulsion injection were retrieved by literature review, and one of them was treated with SMOF. All eight cases were improved after terminating intravenous fat emulsion, and four of them also received blood exchange therapy. Conclusions SMOF can cause neonatal lactic acidosis and/or thrombocytopenia. Clinicians should deepen the understanding of adverse reactions to this drug and lower the misdiagnosis and mistherapy rates

    Multimodal magnetic resonance imaging on brain structure and function changes in vascular cognitive impairment without dementia

    Vascular cognitive impairment not dementia (VCIND) is one of the three subtypes of vascular cognitive impairment (VCI), with cognitive dysfunction and symptoms ranging between normal cognitive function and vascular dementia. The specific mechanisms underlying VCIND are still not fully understood, and there is a lack of specific diagnostic markers in clinical practice. With the rapid development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology, structural MRI (sMRI) and functional MRI (fMRI) have become effective methods for exploring the neurobiological mechanisms of VCIND and have made continuous progress. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the research progress in VCIND using multimodal MRI, including sMRI, diffusion tensor imaging, resting-state fMRI, and magnetic resonance spectroscopy. By integrating findings from these multiple modalities, this study presents a novel perspective on the neuropathological mechanisms underlying VCIND. It not only highlights the importance of multimodal MRI in unraveling the complex nature of VCIND but also lays the foundation for future research examining the relationship between brain structure, function, and cognitive impairment in VCIND. These new perspectives and strategies ultimately hold the potential to contribute to the development of more effective diagnostic tools and therapeutic interventions for VCIND

    Minimal Cut Sets-Based Reliability Evaluation of the More Electric Aircraft Power System

    The More Electric Aircraft (MEA) stands for the direction of aviation development in the new era, and the reliability of power systems on the MEA has attracted widespread attention. Based on the characteristics of MEA power systems, an equivalent method of electrical topology structure is presented in this article, and evaluation method is proposed which shows the reliability of the overall system with the reliability of specific nodes. Firstly, electrical topology structure of a MEA power system is converted into a network node diagram according to the proposed equivalent method. Then, the minimal path sets of specific nodes are obtained by the adjacent matrix algorithm, and the low-order minimal cut sets of disjointed are obtained. After that, the actual failure rate of components is converted to node failure rate, and the reliability of the overall system is evaluated by operational reliability indexes of specific nodes. Finally, taking the MEA A380 as an example, this paper compares and analyzes the reliability of AC loads, DC loads, and key loads to verify the validity and feasibility of the proposed evaluation method. This evaluation system can predict the weak points existing in the MEA power system, as well as providing theoretical support for maintenance schedule
