    N_pN_n dependence of empirical formula for the lowest excitation energy of the 2^+ states in even-even nuclei

    We examine the effects of the additional term of the type eλNpNn\sim e^{- \lambda' N_pN_n} on the recently proposed empirical formula for the lowest excitation energy of the 2+2^+ states in even-even nuclei. This study is motivated by the fact that this term carries the favorable dependence of the valence nucleon numbers dictated by the NpNnN_pN_n scheme. We show explicitly that there is not any improvement in reproducing Ex(21+)E_x(2_1^+) by including the extra NpNnN_pN_n term. However, our study also reveals that the excitation energies Ex(21+)E_x(2_1^+), when calculated by the NpNnN_pN_n term alone (with the mass number AA dependent term), are quite comparable to those calculated by the original empirical formula.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figure

    Empirical formula applied to the lowest excitation energies of the natural parity odd multipole states in even-even nuclei

    We applied our recently proposed empirical formula, a formula quite successful in describing essential trends of the lowest excitation energies of the natural parity even multipole states, to the lowest excitation energies of the natural parity odd multipole states in even-even nuclei throughout the entire periodic table. Even though the systematic behavior of the lowest excitation energies of odd multipole states is quite different from those of even multipole states, we have shown that the same empirical formula also holds reasonably well for the odd multipole states with the exception of a few certain instances.Comment: 23 pages, 11 figure

    A STUDY ON THE ESTIMATION METHOD OF THE FORM FACTOR FOR A FULL-SCALE SHIP

    In this study, a prediction method of the form factor for a full-scale ship is suggested to minimize the power prediction error from a small model ship. Numerical simulations were carried out at various Reynolds numbers from a small model to a full-scale ship. The variation of the form factors was investigated from the results of the numerical simulation according to the Reynolds numbers. In addition, the results from the numerical simulations and experimental data of the geosim models were utilized to drive the correlation line and predict the form factor of a full-scale ship. The correlation line was applied to predict the effective power and the delivered power of a full-scale ship. As a result, the developed prediction method confirmed the possibility of predicting the power reliably from experiments using a small model

    Cancer risk in Vietnam war veterans from the Korean Vietnam war veterans’ health study cohort

    IntroductionDuring the Vietnam War, several unknown chemicals, such as Agent Orange, were used in Vietnam by the military. Therefore, there have been continuous health concerns among the Vietnamese population and veterans exposed to these hazardous chemicals. This study aimed to investigate the risk of all cancers and also organ-specific cancers among Korean veterans of the Vietnam War.MethodsThis study used a national representative cohort that included all Korean Vietnam War veterans as the interest group, with 1:4 age-sex-region-matched general Korean citizens as the reference group, from 2002 to 2018. Age-standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated for all cancers and for 31 organ-specific cancer categories based on the medical facility visit data.ResultsAn increased SIR of 1.07 (95% CI, 1.06–1.08) was observed for all cancers among the veterans. There was a significantly increased risk of cancer among 22/31 organspecific cancers, with 18 cancer categories showing a significantly higher risk than all cancers. The highest risk was observed for “malignant neoplasms of other parts of the central nervous system” (SIR, 1.71; 95% CI, 1.51–1.92).DiscussionThis study evaluated the risk of cancer among Korean Vietnam War veterans. Further studies are warranted to investigate various health determinants in the veterans as well as the Vietnamese population

    As information and communication technologies are advanced, consumers are now able to enhance their e-commerce experiences regardless the channel, and it leads fashion retailers to develop better innovative experiential strategy to secure sustainable competency. The purpose of this study is to focus on apparel website to investigate the effect of branded contents on consumer\u27s pleasure and arousal that in turn may influence consumer\u27s response behaviors. This study employed S-O-R paradigm which explains that consumers\u27 inner organisms change according to the exposed external stimulation, and the changes antedate behavioral responses. Pleasure and arousal were measured with BioPAC MP150, which indicates the changes of electromyogram (EMG: pleasure), galvanic skin reflex (GSR: arousal), and heart rate (HR: pleasure) follow by the self-reported survey about behavioral responses. This study found that the effect for e-commerce\u27s branded content video on consumer\u27s response is indirect, and change of arousal is an indicator of hedonic shopping behavior

    Strut Support with Tricortical Iliac Allografts in Unstable Proximal Humerus Fractures: Surgical Indication and New Definition of Poor Medial Column Support

    Background The execution of fibular allograft augmentation in unstable proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) was technically demanding. In this study, the authors evaluated the clinical and radiographic outcomes after tricortical iliac allograft (TIA) augmentation in PHFs. Methods We retrospectively assessed 38 PHF patients treated with locking-plate fixation and TIA augmentation. Insertion of a TIA was indicated when an unstable PHF showed a large cavitary defect and poor medial column support after open reduction, regardless of the presence of medial cortical comminution in preoperative images. Radiographic imaging parameters (humeral head height, HHH; humeral neck-shaft angle, HNSA; head mediolateral offset, HMLO; and status of the union), Constant score, and range of motion were evaluated. Patients were grouped according to whether the medial column support after open reduction was poor or not (groups A and B, respectively); clinical outcomes were compared for all parameters. Results All fractures healed radiologically (average duration to complete union, 5.8 months). At final evaluation, the average Constant score was 73 points and the mean active forward flexion was 148°. Based on the Paavolainen assessment method, 33 patients had good results and 5 patients showed fair results. The mean loss of reduction was 1.32 mm in HHH and 5.02% in HMLO. None of the parameters evaluated showed a statistically significant difference between the two groups (poor and not poor medial column support). Conclusions In unstable PHFs, TIA augmentation can provide good clinical and radiological results when there are poor medial column support and a large cavitary defect after open reduction

    The role of work–family conflict in the association between long working hours and workers’ sleep disturbance and burnout: results from the sixth Korean Working Conditions Survey

    Background The effect of long working hours on mental health has drawn great social attention in recent years. Aims We investigated how work–family conflict mediates the associations between long working hours and sleep disturbance and burnout. Method We included 19 159 individuals from a nationally representative sample of workers in South Korea. We decomposed the total effect into a direct effect (long working hours → sleep disturbance or burnout) and an indirect effect (long working hours → work–family conflict → sleep disturbance or burnout). Logistic mediation models were used. Results Long working hours were associated with increased risks of work–family conflict, sleep disturbance and burnout. The longer the working hours, the stronger the direct and indirect effects. The odds ratios of the direct effects of long working hours on sleep disturbance were 1.64 (95% CI 1.39–1.95) for 49–54 h/week and 1.66 (95% CI 1.37–2.01) for ≥55 h/week; those of the indirect effects were 1.16 (95% CI 1.12–1.21) for 49–54 h/week and 1.27 (95% CI 1.21–1.33) for ≥ 55 h/week. Similarly, odds ratios of the direct effects of long working hours on burnout were 1.18 (95% CI 1.05–1.33) for 49–54 h/week and 1.20 (95% CI 1.04–1.37) for ≥55 h/week; those of the indirect effects were 1.11 (95% CI 1.09–1.15) for 49–54 h/week and 1.20 (95% CI 1.16–1.24) for ≥55 h/week. Conclusions Our results suggest that work–family conflict mediates the associations between long working hours and sleep disturbance and burnout. Longitudinal studies should be followed to confirm the causal relationship
