Bending of electromagnetic wave in an ultra-strong magnetic field
We consider the bending of light by nonlinear electrodynamics when the
magnetic field exceeds the critical value . Using the index of
refraction derived from the analytic series representation in one-loop
effective action of QED, we found the trajectory and the bending angle of light
in geometric optics. The angle bent by ultra-strong magnetic field of magnetar
was estimated and compared with the gravitational bending. The result may be
useful in studying the lensing, birefringence, and other nonlinear quantum

On a New Approach for Constructing Wormholes in Einstein-Born-Infeld Gravity
We study a new approach for the wormhole construction in Einstein-Born-Infeld
gravity, which does not require exotic matters in the Einstein equation. The
Born-Infeld field equation is not modified from "coordinate independent"
conditions of continuous metric tensor and its derivatives, even though the
Born-Infeld fields have discontinuities in their derivatives at the throat in
general. We study the relation of the newly introduced conditions with the
usual continuity equation for the energy-momentum tensor and the gravitational
Bianchi identity. We find that there is no violation of energy conditions for
the Born-Infeld fields contrary to the usual approaches. The exoticity of
energy-momentum tensor is not essential for sustaining wormholes. Some open

A Study of Perceptional Typologies on Computer Based Assessment (CBA): Instructor and Student Perspectives
This study explores and describes different viewpoints on Computer Based Assessment (CBA) by using Q methodology to identify perspectives of students and instructors and classify these into perceptional typologies. Thirty undergraduate students taking CBA courses and fifteen instructors adopting CBA into their curriculum at a university in Korea, were chosen as participants in this study. As a result of the study, firstly, four types of learners were identified and given the following descriptive labels: (I) CBA Dissatisfaction Type, (II) CBA Friendly Type, (III) Adjustment Seeker Type, and (IV) CBA Apprehensive Type. Secondly, three types of instructors were classified and given the following descriptive labels: (A) CBA Preferred Type, (B) Supplementary Need Type, and (C) Yes-But Mixed Type. Educational and pedagogical implications of these results are discussed in the context of CBA course design.open
Mirage cosmology with an unstable probe D3-brane
We consider the mirage cosmology by an unstable probe brane whose action is
represented by BDI action with tachyon. We study how the presence of tachyon
affects the evolution of the brane inflation. At the early stage of the brane
inflation, the tachyon kinetic term can play an important role in curing the

Support Recovery of Sparse Signals
We consider the problem of exact support recovery of sparse signals via noisy
measurements. The main focus is the sufficient and necessary conditions on the
number of measurements for support recovery to be reliable. By drawing an
analogy between the problem of support recovery and the problem of channel
coding over the Gaussian multiple access channel, and exploiting mathematical
tools developed for the latter problem, we obtain an information theoretic
framework for analyzing the performance limits of support recovery. Sharp
sufficient and necessary conditions on the number of measurements in terms of
the signal sparsity level and the measurement noise level are derived.
Specifically, when the number of nonzero entries is held fixed, the exact
asymptotics on the number of measurements for support recovery is developed.
When the number of nonzero entries increases in certain manners, we obtain
sufficient conditions tighter than existing results. In addition, we show that
the proposed methodology can deal with a variety of models of sparse signal
recovery, hence demonstrating its potential as an effective analytical tool.Comment: 33 page
The Approximate Capacity of the MIMO Relay Channel
Capacity bounds are studied for the multiple-antenna complex Gaussian relay
channel with t1 transmitting antennas at the sender, r2 receiving and t2
transmitting antennas at the relay, and r3 receiving antennas at the receiver.
It is shown that the partial decode-forward coding scheme achieves within
min(t1,r2) bits from the cutset bound and at least one half of the cutset
bound, establishing a good approximate expression of the capacity. A similar
additive gap of min(t1 + t2, r3) + r2 bits is shown to be achieved by the
