    Semi-Inclusive B\to K(K^*) X Decays with Initial Bound State Effects

    The effects of initial bb quark bound state for the semi-inclusive decays B→K(K∗)XB\to K(K^*) X are studied using light cone expansion and heavy quark effective theory methods. We find that the initial bound state effects on the branching ratios and CP asymmetries are small. In the light cone expansion approach, the CP-averaged branching ratios are increased by about 2% with respect to the free bb-quark decay. For Bˉ0→K−(K∗−)X\bar B^0 \to K^- (K^{*-}) X, the CP-averaged branching ratios are sensitive to the phase γ\gamma and the CP asymmetry can be as large as 7% (14%), whereas for B−→Kˉ0(Kˉ∗0)XB^-\to \bar K^0 (\bar K^{*0})X the CP-averaged branching ratios are not sensitive to γ\gamma and the CP asymmetries are small (<1< 1%). The CP-averaged branching ratios are predicted to be in the ranges (0.53∼1.5)×10−4(0.53 \sim 1.5)\times 10^{-4} [(0.25∼2.0)×10−4(0.25 \sim 2.0)\times 10^{-4}] for Bˉ0→K−(K∗−)X\bar B^0 \to K^- (K^{*-})X and (0.77∼0.84)×10−4(0.77 \sim 0.84)\times 10^{-4} [(0.67∼0.74)×10−4(0.67 \sim 0.74)\times 10^{-4}] for B−→Kˉ0(Kˉ∗0)XB^-\to \bar K^0 (\bar K^{*0}) X, depending on the value of the CP violating phase γ\gamma. In the heavy quark effective theory approach, we find that the branching ratios are decreased by about 10% and the CP asymmetries are not affected.     Dynamo quenching due to shear flow

    We provide a theory of dynamo (α effect) and momentum transport in three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics. For the first time, we show that the α effect is reduced by the shear even in the absence of magnetic field. The α effect is further suppressed by magnetic fields well below equipartition (with the large-scale flow) with different scalings depending on the relative strength of shear and magnetic field. The turbulent viscosity is also found to be significantly reduced by shear and magnetic fields, with positive value. These results suggest a crucial effect of shear and magnetic field on dynamo quenching and momentum transport reduction, with important implications for laboratory and astrophysical plasmas, in particular, for the dynamics of the Sun

    We present a unified account of damping of low-lying collective modes and of relaxation of temperature anisotropies in a trapped Bose gas in the collisionless regime. By means of variational techniques, we show that the relaxation times for the two situations are closely related to the simplest variational estimate of the viscous relaxation time. We derive rather precise theoretical expressions for the characteristic relaxation times, and compare our results with experiment.Comment: 4 pages, revte

    Dynamical creation of entanglement by homodyne-mediated feedback

    For two two-level atoms coupled to a single-mode cavity field that is driven and heavily damped, the steady-state can be entangled by shining an un-modulated driving laser on the system [S.Schneider, G. J. Milburn Phys. Rev A 65, 042107, 2002]. We present a scheme to significantly increase the steady-state entanglement by using homodyne-mediated feedback, in which the driving laser is modulated by the homodyne photocurrent derived from the cavity output. Such feedback can increase the nonlinear response to both the decoherence process of the two-qubit system and the coherent evolution of individual qubits. We present the properties of the entangled states using the SO(3) Q function.Comment: 8 page

    MintHint: Automated Synthesis of Repair Hints

    Being able to automatically repair programs is an extremely challenging task. In this paper, we present MintHint, a novel technique for program repair that is a departure from most of today's approaches. Instead of trying to fully automate program repair, which is often an unachievable goal, MintHint performs statistical correlation analysis to identify expressions that are likely to occur in the repaired code and generates, using pattern-matching based synthesis, repair hints from these expressions. Intuitively, these hints suggest how to rectify a faulty statement and help developers find a complete, actual repair. MintHint can address a variety of common faults, including incorrect, spurious, and missing expressions. We present a user study that shows that developers' productivity can improve manyfold with the use of repair hints generated by MintHint -- compared to having only traditional fault localization information. We also apply MintHint to several faults of a widely used Unix utility program to further assess the effectiveness of the approach. Our results show that MintHint performs well even in situations where (1) the repair space searched does not contain the exact repair, and (2) the operational specification obtained from the test cases for repair is incomplete or even imprecise

    Axially open nonradiative structures: an example of single-mode resonator based on the sample holder

    The concept of nonradiative dielectric resonator is generalized in order to include axially open configurations having rotational invariance. The resulting additional nonradiative conditions are established for the different resonance modes on the basis of their azimuthal modal index. An approximate chart of the allowed dielectric and geometrical parameters for the TE011 mode is given. A practical realization of the proposed device based on commercial fused quartz tubes is demonstrated at millimeter wavelengths, together with simple excitation and tuning mechanisms. The observed resonances are characterized in their basic parameters, as well as in the field distribution by means of a finite element method. The predictions of the theoretical analysis are well confirmed, both in the general behaviour and in the expected quality factors. The resulting device, in which the sample holder acts itself as single-mode resonating element, combines an extreme ease of realization with state-of-the-art performances. The general benefits of the proposed open single-mode resonators are finally discussed.Comment: 18 pages, 10 figure

    Spectroscopy of q3qˉ3\rm{q}^3\bar{\rm{q}}^3-States in Quark Model and Baryon-Antibaryon Enhancements

    We study the mass spectrum of the q3qˉ3\rm{q}^3\bar{\rm{q}}^3 mesons both from the quark model with triquark correlations and from common quark model with colormagnetic interactions and with relative S-waves between quarks. Two cluster configurations (q3)−(qˉ3)(\rm{q}^3)-(\bar{\rm{q}}^3) and (q2qˉ)−(qqˉ2)(\rm{q}^2\bar{\rm{q}})-(\rm{q}\bar{\rm{q}}^2) are considered. In the spectrum we find rather stable states which have the same quantum number with particle resonances which are corresponding to the ppˉp\bar{p} enhancement, pΛˉp\bar{\Lambda} enhancement and ΛΛˉ\Lambda\bar{\Lambda} enhancement with spin-0\mathbf{0} or 1\mathbf{1}. This imply these enhancements are NOT experimental artifacts. The color-spin-flavor structures of ppˉp\bar{p}, pΛˉp\bar{\Lambda}, and ΛΛˉ\Lambda\bar{\Lambda} enhancements are revealed. The existence of spin-1\mathbf{1} ΛΛˉ,pΛˉ,ppˉ\Lambda\bar{\Lambda}, p\bar{\Lambda}, p\bar{p} enhancements is predicted.Comment: 45 pages, 5 figure

    Composition dependence of electronic structure and optical properties of Hf1-xSixOy gate dielectrics

Reuse of AIP content is subject to the terms at: http://scitation.aip.org/termsconditionsComposition-dependent electronic structure and optical properties of Hf1−xSixOy 0.1 x 0.6 gate dielectrics on Si at 450 °C grown by UV-photo-induced chemical vapor deposition UV-CVD have been investigated via x-ray photoemission spectroscopy and spectroscopy ellipsometry SE . By means of the chemical shifts in the Hf 4f, Si 2p, and O 1s spectra, the Hf–O–Si bondings in the as-deposited films have been confirmed. Analyses of composition-dependent band alignment of Hf1−xSixOy / Si gate stacks have shown that the valence band VB offset Ev demonstrates little change; however, the values of conduction band offset Ec increase with the increase in the silicon atomic composition, resulting from the increase in the separation between oxygen 2p orbital VB state and antibonding d states intermixed of Hf and Si. Analysis by SE, based on the Tauc–Lorentz model, has indicated that decreases in the optical dielectric constant and increase in band gap have been observed as a function of silicon contents. Changes in the complex dielectric functions and band gap Eg related to the silicon concentration in the films are discussed systematically. From the band offset and band gap viewpoint, these results suggest that Hf1−xSixOy films provide sufficient tunneling barriers for electrons and holes, making them promising candidates as alternative gate dielectrics.National Natural Science Foundation of China and Royal Society U.K
