    Fiber Optic Vibration Sensor Based on the Tilted Fiber Bragg Grating

    A temperature-insensitive fiber optic vibration sensor based on the tilted fiber Bragg grating (TFBG) is presented. The sensing head is formed by insertion of a small section of MMF between a single-mode fiber and the TFBG. The reflection light from this tilted fiber Bragg grating includes two parts: the reflected Bragg mode and the cladding modes. The cladding modes were coupled back into the core mode as a function of the multimode fiber. The power of the cladding modes is sensitive to vibration, so the external vibration measurement can be obtained through the cladding mode average output power. Experiment results show that the root mean square (RMS) of the detection error of the average power was 0.01 ΌW within the temperature range from 20 to 70°C, so it is proved to be temperature independent; its frequency response has been tested to 1 KHz

    Health status of the population in Naqu, Tibet and its latent class analysis: a cross-sectional survey

    BackgroundThrough a survey and analysis of the population’s present state of health, it is possible to give data support for improving the health status of inhabitants in Naqu, Tibet. Additionally, it is possible to provide specific recommendations for the development of medical and healthcare facilities in Tibet.MethodsThe health scores of the participants were based on their responses to the four main sections of the questionnaire: dietary habits, living habits, health knowledge, and clinical disease history, and the variability of health status among groups with different characteristics was analyzed based on the scores. The four major sections were used to create classes of participants using latent class analysis (LCA). Using logistic regression, the factors influencing the classification of latent classes of health status were investigated.ResultsA total of 995 residents from 10 counties in Naqu were selected as the study subjects. And their demographic characteristics were described. The mean health score of residents after standardization was 81.59 ± 4.68. With the exception of gender, health scores differed between groups by age, education level, different occupations, marital status, and monthly income. The health status in Naqu, Tibet, was divided into two groups (entropy = 0.29, BLRT = 0.001, LMRT = 0.001) defined as the “good health group” and the “general health group.” A monthly income of more than „5000 adverse to good health in Naqu, Tibet.DiscussionSingle, well-educated young adults in Naqu, Tibet, have outstanding health. The vast majority of people in Tibet’s Naqu region were in good health. Furthermore, the population’s latent health status was divided into two classes, each with good dietary and living habits choices, low health knowledge, and a history of several clinical diseases. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that monthly income more than „5000 was an independent risk factor for poor health status

    Effectiveness Evaluation on Fire Drills for Emergency and PSC Inspections on Board

    The paper evaluates effectiveness of fire drills for emergency and responding to PSC inspections on board. A brief background about the PSC inspection on fire drills on board is introduced in the beginning. Then the significance of effectiveness evaluation on fire drills is presented. Next, legal ground is discussed on International Conventions, including regulation of related regional group, national maritime laws and rules and Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC). Furthermore, PSC New Inspection Regime (NIR) for Paris MOU and Tokyo MOU are also discussed, and many deficiencies related to fire safety measures found in the PSC inspection are statistically analyzed. More importantly, the paper introduces System Engineering Theory, presents the principle and method of effectiveness evaluation, focuses on the preparation, performance and rehabilitation of fire drill and develops the Criterion of Effectiveness Evaluation. Finally, some suggestions are raised to carry out effectiveness evaluation for emergency and responding to the PSC inspection

    Outlier Detection of Light Buoy Telemetry and Telecontrol Data Based on Improved Adaptive Δ Neighborhood DBSCAN Clustering

    In this paper, according to the water area of light buoy, the migration rule of light buoy in main channel is counted, and the frequency of light buoy passing through a certain position point in the process of migration is calculated, and the model is verified by buoy position data. An anomaly detection algorithm based on improved adaptive DBSCAN clustering is designed. The size of the Δ neighborhood is adaptive according to the wind speed, wave height, and drift distance span of the water area where the light buoy is located. The experimental results show that the improved adaptive DBSCAN clustering algorithm can solve the problem that the common DBSCAN clustering algorithm takes the “hot” water area of the light buoy position or the most likely area in the light buoy migration process as the noise point

    A Hybrid Probabilistic Risk Analytical Approach to Ship Pilotage Risk Resonance with FRAM

    Collision risk in ship pilotage process has complex characteristics that are dynamic, uncertain, and emergent. To reveal collision risk resonance during ship pilotage process, a hybrid probabilistic risk analysis approach is proposed, which integrates the Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM), Dempster–Shafer (D–S) evidence theory, and Monte Carlo (MC) simulation. First, FRAM is used to qualitatively describe the coupling relationship and operation mechanism among the functions of the pilotage operation system. Then, the D–S evidence theory is used to determine the probability distribution of the function output in the specified pilotage scenario after quantitatively expressing the function variability, coupling effect, and the influence of operation conditions through rating scales. Finally, MC simulation is used to calculate the aggregated coupling variability between functions, and the critical couplings and risk resonance paths under different scenarios are identified by setting the threshold and confidence level. The results show that ship collision risk transmission is caused by function resonance in the pilotage system, and the function resonance paths vary with pilotage scenarios. The critical coupling ‘F2-F7(I)’ emerges as a consistent factor in both scenarios, emphasizing the significance of maintaining a proper lookout. The hybrid probabilistic risk analytical approach to ship pilotage risk resonance with FRAM can be a useful method for analysing the causative mechanism of ship operational risk

    Preparation of glycerol-enriched yeast culture and its effect on blood metabolites and ruminal fermentation in goats.

    The aim of this study was to isolate a glycerol-producing yeast strain from nature to prepare glycerol-enriched yeast culture (GY), and preliminarily evaluate the effects of GY on blood metabolites and ruminal fermentation in goats. During the trial, six isolates were isolated from unprocessed honey, and only two isolates with higher glycerol yield were identified by analysis of 26S ribosomal DNA sequences. One of the two isolates was identified as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a direct-fed microbe permitted by the FDA. This isolate was used to prepare GY. The fermentation parameters were optimized through single-factor and orthogonal design methods to maximize the glycerol yield and biomass. The final GY contained 38.7±0.6 g/L glycerol and 12.6±0.5 g/L biomass. In vivo, eight castrated male goats with ruminal fistula were used in a replicated 4×4 Latin square experiment with four consecutive periods of 15 d. Treatments were as follows: control, LGY, MGY, and HGY with 0, 100, 200, and 300 mL GY per goat per day, respectively. The GY was added in two equal portions at 08∶00 and 17∶00 through ruminal fistula. Samples of blood and ruminal fluid were collected on the last one and two days of each period, respectively. Results showed that the plasma concentrations of triglyceride and total cholesterol were not affected by the supplemented GY. Compared with the control, goats supplemented with MGY and HGY had significantly higher (P<0.05) concentrations of plasma glucose and total protein, ruminal volatile fatty acid and molar proportion of propionate, and significantly lower (P<0.05) ruminal pH and ammonia nitrogen. These parameters changed linearly with increasing GY supplementation level (P<0.05). In conclusion, GY has great potential to be developed as a feed additive with dual effects of glycerol and yeast for ruminants

    Broadband convolutional scattering characteristics of all dielectric transmission Pancharatnam–Berry geometric phase metasurfaces

    In order to obtain the broadband scattering characteristics, we propose a superperiodic cell structure with all-dielectric material to construct Pancharatnam–Berry geometric phase encoding metasurfaces. Because we cannot design or prepare infinitesimal coding unit particles, according to the generalized Snell’s law, we can only obtain discrete scattering angle regulation for the basic coding metasurface sequence. In order to obtain multi-angle scattering characteristics, we introduce the Fourier convolution principle in digital signal processing on the Pancharatnam–Berry geometric phase encoding metasurfaces. By using the addition and subtraction operations on two encoding metasurface sequences, a new encoding metasurface sequence can be obtained with different deflection angle. Fourier convolution operations on the encoding metasurfaces can provide an efficient method in optimizing encoding patterns to achieve continuous scattering beams. The addition and subtraction methods are also applicable to the checkerboard coding mode. The combination of Fourier convolution principle and Pancharatnam–Berry phase coded metasurface in digital signal processing can realize more powerful electromagnetic wave manipulation capability
