A Simple Algorithm for Semi-supervised Learning with Improved Generalization Error Bound
In this work, we develop a simple algorithm for semi-supervised regression.
The key idea is to use the top eigenfunctions of integral operator derived from
both labeled and unlabeled examples as the basis functions and learn the
prediction function by a simple linear regression. We show that under
appropriate assumptions about the integral operator, this approach is able to
achieve an improved regression error bound better than existing bounds of
supervised learning. We also verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm
by an empirical study.Comment: Appears in Proceedings of the 29th International Conference on

TBFormer: Two-Branch Transformer for Image Forgery Localization
Image forgery localization aims to identify forged regions by capturing
subtle traces from high-quality discriminative features. In this paper, we
propose a Transformer-style network with two feature extraction branches for
image forgery localization, and it is named as Two-Branch Transformer
(TBFormer). Firstly, two feature extraction branches are elaborately designed,
taking advantage of the discriminative stacked Transformer layers, for both RGB
and noise domain features. Secondly, an Attention-aware Hierarchical-feature
Fusion Module (AHFM) is proposed to effectively fuse hierarchical features from
two different domains. Although the two feature extraction branches have the
same architecture, their features have significant differences since they are
extracted from different domains. We adopt position attention to embed them
into a unified feature domain for hierarchical feature investigation. Finally,
a Transformer decoder is constructed for feature reconstruction to generate the
predicted mask. Extensive experiments on publicly available datasets
demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
The effect of anti-VEGF drugs (bevacizumab and aflibercept) on the survival of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC)
Significant progression has been achieved in the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) in recent years. This has been partly attributed to successfully incorporating new drugs into combination chemotherapy. In addition to the traditional cytotoxic chemotherapeutic agents, molecularly targeted agents began to play an important role in the treatment of advanced solid tumors. To date, two classes of molecularly targeted agents have been approved for treatment of patients with mCRC: (1) antivascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents (such as bevacizumab and aflibercept) and (2) antiendothelial cell growth factor receptor (anti-EGFR) agents (such as cetuximab and panitumumab). Aflibercept is a new member of anti-VEGF agents which has demonstrated efficacy for treatment of mCRC. With the commencement of clinical trials and basic research into aflibercept, more data from the bedside and the bench have been obtained. This review will outline the application of anti-VEGF agents by reviewing clinic experiences of bevacizumab and aflibercept, and try to add perspectives on the use of anti-VEGF agents in mCRC
Survey on Dim Small Target Detection in Clutter Background: Wavelet, Inter-Frame and Filter Based Algorithms
AbstractDim small target is an active and important research area in image processing and pattern recognition. Various algorithms have been proposed to detect and track dim small target. This paper reviews some algorithms for dim small target detection, including the wavelet based algorithms, inter-frame difference based algorithms and filter based algorithms. Also, the further development of the technologies has been briefly analyzed
Identifying factors influencing local governments’ adoption of comprehensive smoke-free policies: an event history analysis based on panel data from 36 key cities in China (2013–2021)
IntroductionThe issue of tobacco control remains a significant concern for public health worldwide. In recent years, remarkable progress has been made toward adopting smoke-free measures in indoor public places. Although China has yet to introduce a national regulation, specifically for smoke-free public places, more than a dozen cities have successively approved and implemented comprehensive smoke-free regulations. Different cities in China have diverse attitudes and behaviors toward smoke-free policies; however, the reasons for these policy differences and the influencing factors have not received sufficient attention and research.MethodsOn the basis of the multiple streams framework, this study selects 36 key Chinese cities as research samples and uses a directed dyad-year event history analysis method to analyze the factors influencing the implementation of comprehensive smoke-free policies in cities.ResultsResults show that the adoption of such policies is positively influenced by scientific evidence, focal events, media coverage, institutional foundations, economic comparisons, and the influence of health departments and of tobacco control groups. By contrast, policy adoption is negatively affected by the differences in administrative levels, central policy signals, and the influence of the tobacco industry.DiscussionThis study contributes to understanding the internal logic behind local governments’ adoption of comprehensive smoke-free policies, offering insights for further advocacy at the city and national levels in China and providing experiences that can promote the global tobacco control movement
Seeing is believing: in situ/operando optical microscopy for probing electrochemical energy systems
This review discusses a range of in situ/operando techniques based on optical microscopy reported in literatures for studying electrochemical energy systems. Compared to other techniques (scanning probe microscopy, electron microscopy, X-ray microscopy), optical microscopy offers many advantages including the simplicity of the instrument and operation, cost effectiveness, and nondestructive nature. In the past few decades, significant advances in the field of optical microscopy have been made, enabling new opportunities of more elaborate studies on electrochemical energy systems. Herein, different methodologies are compared, with the emphasis on experimental setup designs and findings, to illustrate their aptness
