What are the barriers, facilitators and interventions targeting help-seeking behaviours for common mental health problems in adolescents? A systematic review
BACKGROUND: Increasing rates of mental health problems among adolescents are of concern. Teens who are most in need of mental health attention are reluctant to seek help. A better understanding of the help-seeking in this population is needed to overcome this gap. METHODS: Five databases were searched to identify the principal barriers, facilitators and interventions targeting help-seeking for common mental health problems in adolescents aged 10-19 years. The search was performed in June 2018 and updated in April 2019. Two independent screening processes were made using the eligibility criteria. Quality assessment of each study was performed, and findings summarised using a narrative synthesis. RESULTS: Ninety studies meet the inclusion criteria for this review for barrier and facilitators (n = 54) and interventions (n = 36). Stigma and negative beliefs towards mental health services and professionals were the most cited barriers. Facilitators included previous positive experience with health services and mental health literacy. Most interventions were based on psychoeducation, which focused on general mental health knowledge, suicide and self-harm, stigma and depression. Other types of interventions included the use of multimedia and online tools, peer training and outreach initiatives. Overall, the quality of studies was low to medium and there was no general agreement regarding help-seeking definition and measurements. CONCLUSION: Most of the interventions took place in an educational setting however, it is important to consider adolescents outside the educational system. Encouraging help-seeking should come with the increased availability of mental health support for all adolescents in need, but this is still a major challenge for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. There is also a need to develop shared definitions, theoretical frameworks and higher methodological standards in research regarding help-seeking behaviours in adolescents. This will allow more consistency and generalisability of findings, improving the development of help-seeking interventions and ensuring timely access to mental health treatments
Brachiaria Hybrids with Larger Root Length Densities Show Greater Shoot Vigor under Drought
Brachiaria grasses are the most widely planted forages in Tropical America, and their demand is increasing across Africa and South-East Asia. One of the most limiting factors affecting productivity of Brachiaria forage grasses is seasonal drought. Genotypic variation for drought resistance has been found among Brachiaria forage grasses, making possible to genetically improve the productivity of Brachiaria forage grasses under water-limiting conditions (Rao, 2014). The ongoing Brachiaria breeding program at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) has been developing and testing Brachiaria hybrids that combine resistance to biotic constraints with adaptation to abiotic stresses such as drought.
Adaptation to drought conditions greatly relies on an efficient root system that facilitates water capture in drying soil. Among root traits, greater root length density (the length of roots per unit volume of soil, RLD cm/cm3) generally indicates greater ability for water uptake in drying soil (Wasson et al., 2012). Screening of forage germplasm for resistance to drought conditions has often overlooked root traits. This is because of the difficulty to separate roots out of soil, which inevitably ends up in a very low-through-put system. However, new imaging techniques allow rapid estimation and quantification of RLD within the soil (i.e., without the need to separate roots from soil). The following work was therefore performed to evaluate the variation in dry mass, water uptake and RLD of 103 hybrids of Brachiaria after three weeks of growth under drought conditions. We hypothesized that hybrids with greater RLD could extract (particularly with increasing depth) more water in drying soil, which in turn is reflected in greater shoot dry mass production after three weeks of drought treatment
Ianus: an Adpative FPGA Computer
Dedicated machines designed for specific computational algorithms can
outperform conventional computers by several orders of magnitude. In this note
we describe {\it Ianus}, a new generation FPGA based machine and its basic
features: hardware integration and wide reprogrammability. Our goal is to build
a machine that can fully exploit the performance potential of new generation
FPGA devices. We also plan a software platform which simplifies its
programming, in order to extend its intended range of application to a wide
class of interesting and computationally demanding problems. The decision to
develop a dedicated processor is a complex one, involving careful assessment of
its performance lead, during its expected lifetime, over traditional computers,
taking into account their performance increase, as predicted by Moore's law. We

Ventriculoperitoneal shunt related meningioma: A case report
Meningiomas are the most common primary, non-glial tumours of the brain and spine, and represent the most common extra-axial lesions. The typical meningioma is a dural-based, markedly enhancing extra-axial mass; they exhibit cortical buckling with trapped cerebrospinal fluid clefts or cortical vessels. There are factors strongly associated with risk of developing meningioma, as in the case of exposure to ionizing radiation, or exogenous or endogenous hormones, as in this case, the presence of shunt material as a foreign body may have contributed to oncogenesis on the basis of a chronic inflammatory reaction. Focusing of geodesic congruences in an accelerated expanding Universe
We study the accelerated expansion of the Universe through its consequences
on a congruence of geodesics. We make use of the Raychaudhuri equation which
describes the evolution of the expansion rate for a congruence of timelike or
null geodesics. In particular, we focus on the space-time geometry contribution
to this equation. By straightforward calculation from the metric of a
Robertson-Walker cosmological model, it follows that in an accelerated
expanding Universe the space-time contribution to the Raychaudhuri equation is
positive for the fundamental congruence, favoring a non-focusing of the
congruence of geodesics. However, the accelerated expansion of the present
Universe does not imply a tendency of the fundamental congruence to diverge. It
is shown that this is in fact the case for certain congruences of timelike
geodesics without vorticity. Therefore, the focusing of geodesics remains
feasible in an accelerated expanding Universe. Furthermore, a negative
contribution to the Raychaudhuri equation from space-time geometry which is
usually interpreted as the manifestation of the attractive character of gravity
is restored in an accelerated expanding Robertson-Walker space-time at high

Pro-and Anti-Inflammatory Cytokines Release in Mice Injected with Crotalus durissus terrificus Venom
The effects of Crotalus durissus terrificus venom (Cdt) were analyzed with respect to the susceptibility and the inflammatory mediators in an experimental model of severe envenomation. BALB/c female mice injected intraperitoneally presented sensibility to Cdt, with changes in specific signs, blood biochemical and inflammatory mediators. The venom induced reduction of glucose and urea levels and an increment of creatinine levels in serum from mice. Significant differences were observed in the time-course of mediator levels in sera from mice injected with Cdt. The maximum levels of IL-6, NO, IL-5, TNF, IL-4 and IL-10 were observed 15 min, 30 min, 1, 2 and 4 hours post-injection, respectively. No difference was observed for levels of IFN-γ. Taken together, these data indicate that the envenomation by Cdt is regulated both pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokine responses at time-dependent manner. In serum from mice injected with Cdt at the two first hours revealed of pro-inflammatory dominance. However, with an increment of time an increase of anti-inflammatory cytokines was observed and the balance toward to anti-inflammatory dominance. In conclusion, the observation that Cdt affects the production of pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines provides further evidence for the role played by Cdt in modulating pro/anti-inflammatory cytokine balance
Heptagon-Containing Nanographene Embedded into [10]Cycloparaphenylene
We report the synthesis and characterization of a novel type of nanohoop, consisting of a cycloparaphenylene derivative incorporating a curved heptagon-containing π-extended polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) unit. We demonstrate that this new macrocycle behaves as a supramolecular receptor of curved π-systems such as fullerenes C60 and C70, with remarkably large binding constants (ca. 107 M−1), as estimated by fluorescence measurements. Nanosecond and femtosecond spectroscopic analysis show that these host-guest complexes are capable of quasi-instantaneous charge separation upon photoexcitation, due to the ultrafast charge transfer from the macrocycle to the complexed fullerene. These results demonstrate saddle-shaped PAHs with dibenzocycloheptatrienone motifs as structural components for new macrocycles displaying molecular receptor abilities and versatile photochemical responses with promising electron-donor properties in host-guest complexes
