Role of water management in ecological restoration and economic development in arid regions Taken the lower reaches of Tarim River as an example

Water resource is a crucial factor in social and economic development and ecological protection in arid and semi-arid areas. The unbridled development and use of water resources in the lower reaches of the Tarim River over the last 50 years have led to a serious ecological degradation: (1) groundwater level drop. (2) water quality deterioration. (3) land desertification and frequent natural disasters occurrence. Meanwhile, the environmental degradation caused some negative effects on local agricultural development: (1) soil salinization declines agricultural areas. (2) deterioration water quality declines agricultural production. (3) natural disasters cause high economic loss. However, after watering, the degraded ecology is becoming obviously reversible. The natural vegetation has a favorable response in certain range of the water channel. The areas arable land increased greatly; furthermore, the total value of agricultural production is 1293.13x104 Dollars, increased by 128% after adoption of new management of water. Livestock population has experienced a growth trend as a result of watering. The results indicate that favorable eco-environment has an obvious positive function in the local economic development. Based on those facts, this paper analyzed the relationship between eco-environment and economic development. Some issues are pointed out in water resource management. Scientific water management countermeasures are discussed in Tarim River

The water transfer effects on agricultural development in the lower Tarim River, Xinjiang of China

The ecological process in the Tarim River, Xinjiang, northwest China, has undergone great changes due to human disturbance over the past 50 years. Most notably, alteration in the spatial-temporal pattern of water resources has resulted in a damaged or degraded vegetative ecosystem in the lower reaches of Tarim River, a condition that restricts local economical development. However, after raising the water level by watering to the lower Tarim River, such ecological degradation was obviously reversed within a certain region of the water channel. Both agricultural production and animal husbandry improved greatly as well. Taking the 35th state farm as an example, the areas utilized or available for farming increased greatly; furthermore, the total value of agricultural production is 129113 X 104 US$, increased by 128% (the rate between the increased production and the original one) after adoption of new management of water. Livestock population has experienced a growth trend as a result of water transfer compared before water transfer. The results of this investigation suggest that the reversible state of the eco-environment following watering has had a positive effect on local agricultural development. In addition, we analyzed the relationship between ecological change and agricultural development and discuss water resource management and its ecological significance. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. Pyroptosis plays a crucial role in bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and is associated with various lung injury illnesses. However, the function of pyroptosis-related genes (PRGs) in BPD remains poorly understood. The gene expression omnibus (GEO) database was searched for information on genes associated with BPD. Twenty-five BPD-related DE-PRGs were identified, all of which were closely associated with pyroptosis regulation and immunological response. LASSO and SVM-RFE algorithms identified CHMP7, NLRC4, NLRP2, NLRP6, and NLRP9 among the 25 differentially expressed PRGs as marker genes with acceptable diagnostic capabilities. Using these five genes, we also generated a nomogram with excellent predictive power. Annotation enrichment analyses revealed that these five genes may be implicated in BPD and numerous BPD-related pathways. In addition, the ceRNA network showed an intricate regulatory link based on the marker genes. In addition, CIBERSORT-based studies revealed that alterations in the immunological microenvironment of BPD patients may be associated with the marker genes. We constructed a diagnostic nomogram and gave insight into the mechanism of BPD. Its diagnostic value for BPD must be evaluated in further research before it can be used in clinical practice.</p
