    Convex Optimization Based Bit Allocation for Light Field Compression under Weighting and Consistency Constraints

    Compared with conventional image and video, light field images introduce the weight channel, as well as the visual consistency of rendered view, information that has to be taken into account when compressing the pseudo-temporal-sequence (PTS) created from light field images. In this paper, we propose a novel frame level bit allocation framework for PTS coding. A joint model that measures weighted distortion and visual consistency, combined with an iterative encoding system, yields the optimal bit allocation for each frame by solving a convex optimization problem. Experimental results show that the proposed framework is effective in producing desired distortion distribution based on weights, and achieves up to 24.7% BD-rate reduction comparing to the default rate control algorithm.Comment: published in IEEE Data Compression Conference, 201

    Research on the Frequency Aliasing of Resistance Acceleration Guidance for Reentry Flight

    According to the special response of resistance acceleration during hypersonic reentry flight, different guidance frequency will result to very different flight and control response. The analysis model for the response of resistance acceleration to the attack angle and dynamic press is put forward respectively in this paper. And the frequency aliasing phenomenon of guidance is revealed. The simulation results to the same vehicle sufficiently substantiate the frequency aliasing of resistance acceleration during reentry guidance

    A wide field-of-view scanning endoscope for whole anal canal imaging

    We report a novel wide field-of-view (FOV) scanning endoscope, the AnCam, which is based on contact image sensor (CIS) technology used in commercialized business card scanners. The AnCam can capture the whole image of the anal canal within 10 seconds with a resolution of 89 μm, a maximum FOV of 100 mm × 120 mm, and a depth-of-field (DOF) of 0.65 mm at 5.9 line pairs per mm (lp/mm). We demonstrate the performance of the AnCam by imaging the entire anal canal of pigs and tracking the dynamics of acetowhite testing. We believe the AnCam can potentially be a simple and convenient solution for screening of the anal canal for dysplasia and for surveillance in patients following treatment for anal cancer

    Judging a video by its bitstream cover

    Classifying videos into distinct categories, such as Sport and Music Video, is crucial for multimedia understanding and retrieval, especially in an age where an immense volume of video content is constantly being generated. Traditional methods require video decompression to extract pixel-level features like color, texture, and motion, thereby increasing computational and storage demands. Moreover, these methods often suffer from performance degradation in low-quality videos. We present a novel approach that examines only the post-compression bitstream of a video to perform classification, eliminating the need for bitstream. We validate our approach using a custom-built data set comprising over 29,000 YouTube video clips, totaling 6,000 hours and spanning 11 distinct categories. Our preliminary evaluations indicate precision, accuracy, and recall rates well over 80%. The algorithm operates approximately 15,000 times faster than real-time for 30fps videos, outperforming traditional Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) algorithm by six orders of magnitude

    Toeplitz matrix-vector product based GF(2^n) shifted polynomial basis multipliers for all irreducible pentanomials

    Besides Karatsuba algorithm, optimal Toeplitz matrix-vector product (TMVP) formulae is another approach to design GF(2^n) subquadratic multipliers. However, when GF(2^n) elements are represented using a shifted polynomial basis, this approach is currently appliable only to GF(2^n)s generated by all irreducible trinomials and a special type of irreducible pentanomials, not all general irreducible pentanomials. The reason is that no transformation matrix, which transforms the Mastrovito matrix into a Toeplitz matrix, has been found. In this article, we propose such a transformation matrix and its inverse matrix for an arbitrary irreducible pentanomial. Because there is no known value of n for which either an irreducible trinomial or an irreducible pentanomial does not exist, this transformation matrix makes the TMVP approach a universal tool, i.e., it is applicable to all practical GF(2^n)s

    Phase Fluctuation Analysis in Functional Brain Networks of Scaling EEG for Driver Fatigue Detection

    The characterization of complex patterns arising from electroencephalogram (EEG) is an important problem with significant applications in identifying different mental states. Based on the operational EEG of drivers, a method is proposed to characterize and distinguish different EEG patterns. The EEG measurements from seven professional taxi drivers were collected under different states. The phase characterization method was used to calculate the instantaneous phase from the EEG measurements. Then, the optimization of drivers’ EEG was realized through performing common spatial pattern analysis. The structures and scaling components of the brain networks from optimized EEG measurements are sensitive to the EEG patterns. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated, and its applicability is articulated.</p
