Permanent Deformation of Earth Dam Due to Earthquake

    Get PDF
This paper combines the equivalent nodal force method suggested by serf et al, (1976) and equivalent inertial force method proposed by Taniguchi et al (1983, 1987). The former is fine to utilize seed\u27s strain potential but the stress-strain curve is obtained only by static test, while the latter uses dynamic stress-strain curve, but the determination of direction of equivalent inertial force is rather difficult. The writers use the equivalent nodal force by average shear stress (τav=0.65 τmax) and assume it\u27s direction to be coincided with static shear stress. Also dynamic stress-residual shear strain curve is obtained by dynamic testing

Demonstration of the double Q^2-rescaling model

    Get PDF
In this paper we have demonstrated the double Q^2-rescaling model (DQ^2RM) of parton distribution functions of nucleon bounded in nucleus. With different x-region of l-A deep inelastic scattering process we take different approach: in high x-region (0.1\le x\le 0.7) we use the distorted QCD vacuum model which resulted from topologically multi -connected domain vacuum structure of nucleus; in low x-region (10^{-4}\le x\le10^{-3}) we adopt the Glauber (Mueller) multi- scattering formula for gluon coherently rescattering in nucleus. From these two approach we justified the rescaling parton distribution functions in bound nucleon are in agreement well with those we got from DQ^2RM, thus the validity for this phenomenologically model are demonstrated.Comment: 19 page, RevTex, 5 figures in postscrip

J/ψ+jetJ/\psi + jet diffractive production in the direct photon process at HERA

We present a study of J/ψ+jetJ/\psi + jet diffractive production in the direct photon process at HERA based on the factorization theorem for lepton-induced hard diffractive scattering and the factorization formalism of the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) for quarkonia production. Using the diffractive gluon distribution function extracted from HERA data on diffractive deep inelastic scattering and diffractive dijet photon production, we show that this process can be studied at HERA with present integrated luminosity, and can give valuable insights in the color-octet mechanism for heavy quarkonia production.Comment: Revtex, 21 pages, 7 EPS figure

Is ChatGPT a Good Multi-Party Conversation Solver?

Large Language Models (LLMs) have emerged as influential instruments within the realm of natural language processing; nevertheless, their capacity to handle multi-party conversations (MPCs) -- a scenario marked by the presence of multiple interlocutors involved in intricate information exchanges -- remains uncharted. In this paper, we delve into the potential of generative LLMs such as ChatGPT and GPT-4 within the context of MPCs. An empirical analysis is conducted to assess the zero-shot learning capabilities of ChatGPT and GPT-4 by subjecting them to evaluation across three MPC datasets that encompass five representative tasks. The findings reveal that ChatGPT's performance on a number of evaluated MPC tasks leaves much to be desired, whilst GPT-4's results portend a promising future. Additionally, we endeavor to bolster performance through the incorporation of MPC structures, encompassing both speaker and addressee architecture. This study provides an exhaustive evaluation and analysis of applying generative LLMs to MPCs, casting a light upon the conception and creation of increasingly effective and robust MPC agents. Concurrently, this work underscores the challenges implicit in the utilization of LLMs for MPCs, such as deciphering graphical information flows and generating stylistically consistent responses.Comment: Accepted by Findings of EMNLP 202

DiffuSIA: A Spiral Interaction Architecture for Encoder-Decoder Text Diffusion

Diffusion models have emerged as the new state-of-the-art family of deep generative models, and their promising potentials for text generation have recently attracted increasing attention. Existing studies mostly adopt a single encoder architecture with partially noising processes for conditional text generation, but its degree of flexibility for conditional modeling is limited. In fact, the encoder-decoder architecture is naturally more flexible for its detachable encoder and decoder modules, which is extensible to multilingual and multimodal generation tasks for conditions and target texts. However, the encoding process of conditional texts lacks the understanding of target texts. To this end, a spiral interaction architecture for encoder-decoder text diffusion (DiffuSIA) is proposed. Concretely, the conditional information from encoder is designed to be captured by the diffusion decoder, while the target information from decoder is designed to be captured by the conditional encoder. These two types of information flow run through multilayer interaction spirally for deep fusion and understanding. DiffuSIA is evaluated on four text generation tasks, including paraphrase, text simplification, question generation, and open-domain dialogue generation. Experimental results show that DiffuSIA achieves competitive performance among previous methods on all four tasks, demonstrating the effectiveness and generalization ability of the proposed method.Comment: Work in Progres

Improvement in the Priority Handoff Scheme for Multi-Service Wireless Mobile Networks

    Get PDF
Abstract: In this study, a new handoff strategy to improve the performance of wireless mobile networks is presented. It has been found form this study that the dropping probability of handoff calls is drastically reduced compared to the existing method of channel reservation strategy of handoff calls and the performance of new calls can be improved. The strategy is that the new call should be delayed then it can use the last idle channel. The time that all the channels are holding has been shortened. Opportunities of the new call and handoff call occupancy channel are increased; the scheme also takes into account the priority of different data types and only when the highpriority data packets queue is empty, the data packets in low-priority data queue can be transmitted. Simulation results show that, to let the new voice call delay in the allowable range, can effectively reduce the dropping probability of handoff call and the blocking probability of high-priority data while improving the probability of new call to enter into the systems

    Poly[chlorido[μ4-2,2′-(2-methyl-1H-benzimidazol-3-ium-1,3-diyl)diacetato]zinc]

The title compound, [Zn(C12H11N2O4)Cl]n, contains a centrosymmetric dimetal tetracarboxylate paddle-wheel moiety in which the ZnII atom is square-pyramidally coordinated by four carboxylate O atoms at the basal positions and one Cl− anion at the apical position. Each paddle-wheel unit is joined to four such neighbours through bridging dicarboxylate ligands, producing a two-dimensional undulating layer parallel to (-101). Adjacent sheets are stacked in a parallel fashion to form a three-dimensional supramolecular structure which is stabilized by interlayer π–π interactions between benzene rings, with a centroid–centroid distance of 3.722 Å. The range of Zn—O bond lengths is 2.0440 (17)–2.1256 (15) Å and the Zn—Cl bond length is 2.2622 (6) Å

Xiaoyaosan Decoction, a Traditional Chinese Medicine, Inhibits Oxidative-Stress-Induced Hippocampus Neuron Apoptosis In Vitro

Xiaoyaosan (XYS) decoction is a famous prescription for the treatment of mental disorders in China. In this experiment, we explored the way in which XYS decoction-reverse hippocampus neuron apoptosis in vitro. We used XYS decoction-containing serum to treat oxidative-stress-induced hippocampus neuron apoptosis and used immunofluorescence to determine the concentration of free calcium, mitochondrial membrane potential, and apoptotic rate of neuron. Results showed that 3-hour oxidative stress decrease mitochondrial membrane potential, increase the concentration of free calcium and apoptotic rate of neuron via triggering pathological changes of nucleus such as karyorrhexis, karyopyknosis. Low, medium, high dose of XYS-decoction-containing serum could reverse these phenomenon, and the effect of low-dose XYS-decoction-containing serum was significant in improving mitochondrial membrane potential and apoptotic rate of neuron. These findings suggest that XYS decoction may be helpful in reducing oxidative-stress-induced hippocampus neuron apoptosis
