    Secure capacity analysis for magnetic inductive coupling-based SWIPT system

    Many researchers have provided meaningful insights for physical layer security (PLS) in various wireless communication systems. However, few works have carried out an intensive PLS analysis for magnetic inductive coupling (MIC)-based simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT). This paper analyzes the effect of the angular position of coils on the secure capacity of a MIC-based SWIPT system in the presence of a potential malicious power receiver. Using a simple coupling model, we analyze the maximum achievable secure capacity of a MIC-based SWIPT system when the transmitter has knowledge of the coil angular positions of the receiver and the potential eavesdropper. In addition, we expand our analysis to the case where the transmitter has only limited knowledge of the coil angular positions of the receiver and the potential eavesdropper due to the angular fluctuation of the coils. Since employing the PLS technique with a traditional security algorithm can enhance security, the analysis will provide a meaningful contribution for improving MIC-based SWIPT system security. © 2013 IEEE.1

    Synchronous double primary malignant tumor of the gallbladder and liver: a case report

    We report a case of synchronous double primary tumor of gallbladder and liver. A 63-year-old male was admitted to the hospital complaining of abdominal discomfort. Enhanced computed tomography of the abdomen showed acute cholecystitis with tiny gallbladder stones and a 2.2 cm size enhanced nodule in the left lobe of the liver. Under the impression of acute cholecystitis with gall bladder stones and hepatocellular carcinoma of the left Liver, the patient underwent a laparotomy. At laparotomy, a mass was palpated on the surface of the neck portion of the gall bladder. Intraoperative frozen diagnosis revealed adenocarcinoma of the gall bladder. The patient was diagnosed as having gall bladder cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma, so extended cholecystectomy with dissection of regional lymph nodes and left hemihepatectomy were performed. Histological examination revealed moderated differentiated adenocarcinoma of gallbladder and hepatocellular carcinoma of liver. To our knowledge, the simultaneous occurrence of primary malignant tumor of the gallbladder and liver has never been published before. The patient is doing well with no evidence of recurrence 17 months after surgery

    Laparoendoscopic Single-Site Surgery (LESS) for Excision of a Seminal Vesicle Cyst Associated with Ipsilateral Renal Agenesis

    We report a case of laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS) for a symptomatic left seminal vesicular cyst and ipsilateral renal agenesis. A 49-year-old man presented with a 1-year history of severe irritation upon voiding and intractable, recurrent hematospermia. A computed tomography scan showed a 68×41×38 mm sized left seminal vesicular cyst with ipsilateral renal agenesis. LESS was performed successfully to treat the seminal vesicle cyst. The total operative time was 125 minutes, and blood loss was minimal. The patient was discharged from the hospital on the second postoperative day

    Cost-effectiveness of using amyloid positron emission tomography in individuals with mild cognitive impairment

    Background Amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) makes it possible to diagnose Alzheimers disease (AD) in its prodromal phase including mild cognitive impairment (MCI). This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of including amyloid-PET for assessing individuals with MCI. Methods The target population was 60-year-old patients who were diagnosed with MCI. We constructed a Markov model for the natural history of AD with the amyloid positivity (AP). Because amyloid-PET can detect the AP MCI state, AD detection can be made faster by reducing the follow-up interval for a high-risk group. The health outcomes were evaluated in quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) and the final results of cost-effectiveness analysis were presented in the form of the Incremental Cost-Effectiveness Ratio (ICER). To handle parameter uncertainties, one-way sensitivity analyses for various variables were performed. Results Our model showed that amyloid-PET increased QALYs by 0.003 in individuals with MCI. The estimated additional costs for adopting amyloid-PET amounted to a total of 1250 USD per patient when compared with the cost when amyloid-PET is not adopted. The ICER was 3,71,545 USD per QALY. According to the sensitivity analyses, treatment effect of Donepezil and virtual intervention effect in MCI state were the most influential factors. Conclusions In our model, using amyloid-PET at the MCI stage was not cost-effective.
