Moving Towards a Culturally Diverse Accounting Profession
This paper discusses the increasing diversity in the accounting profession. Evidence is presented substantiating that over one third of recent accounting graduates are from ethnic minority backgrounds, the majority of whom are Asian/Pacific Islanders. In our university specific data, we find an even higher percentage (71%) of ethnic minorities receiving accounting degrees, with Asian/Pacific Islanders as the majority group. We also show that over one fourth of new accounting graduates hired by accounting firms are ethnic minorities of which fifty percent are Asian/Pacific Islanders
Deconfinement vs. chiral symmetry and higher representation matter
The interplay of deconfinement and chiral symmetry restoration are considered
in terms of effective theories. We generalize the earlier model studies by
considering fermions in higher representations, and study the finite
temperature phase diagrams of SU(2) and SU(3) gauge theories with two fermion
flavors in fundamental, adjoint or two-index symmetric representations. We
discuss our results in relation to recent lattice simulations on these theories
and outline possible applications in the context of dynamical electroweak

Simulating Impacts of Extreme Weather Events on Urban Transport Infrastructure in the UK
Urban areas face many risks from future climate change and their infrastructure will be placed under more pressure
due to changes in climate extremes. Using the Tyndall Centre Urban Integrated Assessment Framework, this paper
describes a methodology used to assess the impacts of future climate extremes on transport infrastructure in
London. Utilising high-resolution projections for future climate in the UK, alongside stochastic weather generators
for downscaling, urban temperature and flooding models are used to provide information on the likelihood of future
extremes. These are then coupled with spatial network models of urban transport infrastructure and, using thresholds
to define the point at which systems cease to function normally, disruption to the networks can be simulated.
Results are shown for both extreme heat and urban surface water flooding events and the impacts on the travelling
population, in terms of both disruption time and monetary cost
The Decuplet Revisited in PT
The paper deals with two issues. First, we explore the quantitiative
importance of higher multiplets for properties of the decuplet in
chiral perturbation theory. In particular, it is found that the lowest order
one--loop contributions from the Roper octet to the decuplet masses and
magnetic moments are substantial. The relevance of these results to the chiral
expansion in general is discussed. The exact values of the magnetic moments
depend upon delicate cancellations involving ill--determined coupling
constants. Second, we present new relations between the magnetic moments of the
decuplet that are independent of all couplings. They are exact at the
order of the chiral expansion used in this paper.Comment: 7 pages of double column revtex, no figure
Electromagnetic Moments of the Baryon Decuplet
We compute the leading contributions to the magnetic dipole and electric
quadrupole moments of the baryon decuplet in chiral perturbation theory. The
measured value for the magnetic moment of the is used to determine
the local counterterm for the magnetic moments. We compare the chiral
perturbation theory predictions for the magnetic moments of the decuplet with
those of the baryon octet and find reasonable agreement with the predictions of
the large-- limit of QCD. The leading contribution to the quadrupole
moment of the and other members of the decuplet comes from one--loop
graphs. The pionic contribution is shown to be proportional to (and so
will not contribute to the quadrupole moment of nuclei), while the
contribution from kaons has both isovector and isoscalar components. The chiral
logarithmic enhancement of both pion and kaon loops has a coefficient that
vanishes in the limit. The third allowed moment, the magnetic octupole,
is shown to be dominated by a local counterterm with corrections arising at two

1/N_c Expansion of the Heavy Baryon Isgur-Wise Functions
The 1/N_c expansion of the heavy baryon Isgur-Wise functions is discussed.
Because of the contracted SU(2N_f) light quark spin-flavor symmetry, the
universality relations among the Isgur-Wise functions of \Lambda_b to \Lambda_c
and \Sigma_b^{(*)} to \Sigma_c^{(*)} are valid up to the order of 1/N_c^2.Comment: 7 pages, latex, no figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.

Dynamics of inelastically colliding rough spheres: Relaxation of translational and rotational energy
We study the exchange of kinetic energy between translational and rotational
degrees of freedom for inelastic collisions of rough spheres. Even if
equipartition holds in the initial state it is immediately destroyed by
collisions. The simplest generalisation of the homogeneous cooling state allows
for two temperatures, characterizing translational and rotational degrees of
freedom separately. For times larger than a crossover frequency, which is
determined by the Enskog frequency and the initial temperature, both energies
decay algebraically like with a fixed ratio of amplitudes, different
