A Visibility Analysis of the Scientific Production of Ukrainian Economists

    Get PDF
Despite the prestigious contributions of Ukrainian economists in the past, most particularly with Mikhaîl Tuhan-Baranovsky and even more so with Eugen Slutsky, there is no single indication of the scientific production of contemporary economists either in Ukraine or in the Diaspora. This study attempts to fill that gap by using the 1969-3/1995 EconLit data-base to establish the visibility of all identified economists with Ukrainian desecndance active in academic, governmental or private areas. The members of the Editorial Board and the Advisory Board of the Ukrainian Economic Review were also examined in order to provide reference to a benchmark group. The method of analysis applied the usual norms of measurement, taking into account the co-authorship factor, to adjust for effective productivity in refereed journals.EconLit; Ukraine; scientific productivity; visibility.

This empirical study evaluates the relative importance of articles in Industrial Organization published in major generalist or specialized scientific journals, using the new 1991 J.E.L. classification system. Contributions are regrouped according to the type of article: theoretical analysis, industrial policy or industry studies. A rate of multiple reference index has been introduced to examine the degree of relation between those three categories and used as a proxy of the editorial preferences towards the type of treatment of the subject usually expected by the journal.Generalist or specialized journals; editorial policy; industrial organization.

The purpose of this paper is to position the place of economics in Ukraine and its scholarly visibility at the international level, using the EconLit database. Results show that Ukrainian authors have a general profile of co-autorship similar to western practices, a significant proportion of publications from governmental circles, a low female representation and a small number of Ukrainian authors having published in journals also included in the S.S.C.I. database.N.I.S.; Ukraine; EconLit; S.S.C.I.; Scientific production

Visibility of Contributions in Industrial Organization in International Scientific Journals: 1991-96

    Get PDF
This empirical study evaluates the relative importance of articles in industrial organization published in major general or specialized scientific journals, either english or french, using the new 1991 J.E.L. classification system. Contributions are examined within two recent periods, 1991-93 and 1994-96, and regrouped according to the nature of the article: theoretical (L100-L390); industrial policy (L400-L590); industry studies (L600-L990). A specialization progress indicator (IPS) may show the evolution of the editorial policy in relation with the treatment of the subject, while a rate of multiple reference (TRM) reveals the specific characteristics of the journals with respect to the type of article being published.Industrial organization; French journals; sociology of economics; journals ratings.

This empirical study evaluates the relative importance of articles in industrial organization published in major general or specialized scientific journals, either English or French, using the new 1991 J.E.L. classification system. Contributions are examined within two recent periods, 1991-1994 and 1995-1998, and regrouped according to the type of article : theoretical (L100-L390); industrial policy (L400-L590); industry studies (L600-L990). A specialization progress indicator (IPS) may show the evolution of the editorial policy in relation with the treatment of the subject, while a rate of multiple reference (TRM) reveals the specific characteristics of the journals with respect to the type of article being published.

The purpose of this study is to produce an exploratory survey for 1998 of the scientific contributions of representative economics research groups in France, based on the EconLit database, using tree indicators: 1) overall visibility, 2) net production, and 3) international presence. Results indicate a clear dichotomy between two major categories of representative groups, raising serious questions about the way the public university operates in France until that time.EconLit; scientific production; journal articles; overall visibility; international presence
