    Moderating effect of gender and age on the relationship between emotional intelligence with social and academic adjustment among first year university students

    This study examined whether emotional intelligence is significantly correlated with social adjustment and academic adjustment. It also explored the moderating effects of gender and age factors and their linked between emotional intelligence and social adjustment as well as academic adjustment among first year university students. 289 first year university students (148 males and 141 females) at the Irbid Govern Orate, North of Jordan, participate in the study and were categorized based on two age groups, younger students between the age of 18 – 25 and older students between the range of 26 and above. Two valid and reliable instruments were used to assess student’s emotional intelligence, social adjustment and academic adjustment. Correlation and multi-group analysis using structural equation model were used to analyse these data. The result shows no significant relationship between emotional intelligence and of both social adjustment and academic adjustment. In addition, the moderating effect of gender was not found. However, the moderating effect of age on the relationship between emotional intelligence with social adjustment and academic adjustment were established

    The influence of demographic variables on university students’ adjustment in North Jordan

    The main aim of the present study is to investigate the student university adjustment particularly the determination of the adjustment level of first year university students in Jordan. The three domains are namely overall college adjustment, domain of social adjustment, and academic adjustment. In addition, in this analysis, gender, age, types of university differences adjustment are evaluated. 244 first year students participated in this study and frequencies, descriptive statistics, independent t-test, and ANOVA are used in the study. The results of the study reveal that university students have a generally moderate adjustment level despite the indication that students have some difficulties in their social and academic factors

    The Level of Creativity in English Writing among Jordanian Secondary School Students

    The aim of this study is to explore the level of creativity in English writing among Jordanian secondary school students. The researchers have used a random sample of 100 students of secondary school students in Irbid and Amman cities in Jordan. Adapetd Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (TTCT) was used to measure their creativity in English writing. TTCT test is thought to be the best test to evaluate the creativity dimensions of students in writing. TTCT assesses fluency or the number of ideas; flexibility, the variety of categories in the answers; and originality, which consists in considering innovative answers, neither familiar nor inappropriate. The results of the study showed that the respondents fall in the moderate level of creativity.     The moderating role of tolerance ambiguity in the stressor-strain relationship: An empirical study among university lecturers in Saudi Arabia

    Several studies reveal that the workplace is a critical source of stress. Researchers who analyze the relationship between stressors and strain in the context of the workplace have called for the need to examine moderator variables impact on the above relationship. The present study analyzed the relationship between role overload, role conflict, role ambiguity, and strain as well as to study the impact of tolerance ambiguity as a moderator in the relationship between job demands and strain. The structural equation modeling approach was adopted by the study. The sample study comprised of 217 lecturers from the University of Dammam, Saudi Arabia and the results show that the tolerance ambiguity significantly moderates the relationship between stress roles namely role conflict but not role overload and role ambiguity with strain. The results also confirmed the direct impact of role overload on strain but not that of role conflict and role ambiguity. The findings, with regards to theory, research and practice and their implications, were also discussed

    Emotional intelligence and psychographic profiles of the potential first class students

    The study examined the correlation between emotional intelligence dimensions and psychographic attributes among Potential First Class students.The study also explored the differences between age and ethnicity factors on the level of psychographics attributes among 424 potential first class students (69 males and 355 females).The result showed significant relationship between emotional intelligence dimensions as well as significant correlation between psychographics attributes.Furthermore, significant relationship was found between emotional intelligence construct and psychographics attributes.In addition, the results showed that there were differences on the level of psychographics attributes based on the age and ethnicity factors.Lastly, the study recommended that emotional intelligence, and psychological constructs are important factors that could improve student success, especially for the university students

    Psychographic profile among potential first class public university undergraduates in Malaysia

    The term psychographics is often used interchangeably with life style which uses activities/attitudes and opinions as the research interests.Therefore, the purpose of the study was to identify the level of psychographics attributes among 424 potential first class students at Universiti Utara Malaysia.In addition, the purpose of the study was to examine the differences of the emotional intelligence level based on gender.The results of the study indicated that 24.8% of respondents are at the moderate level in total, 0.7% of the respondents fall into the low level and 74.5% of the respondents fall into the high level of psychographic attributes furthermore, the result showed that there was a partial significant difference on psychographic attributes.Therefore, outcomes of the study describe some characteristics on the prospective students to assist in providing coaching and mentoring – by insuring students suited to their needs and desires for their study
