A new species of Hexacladia Ashmead (Hymenoptera, Encyrtidae) and new record of Hexacladia smithii Ashmead as parasitoids of Dichelops furcatus (Fabricius) (Hemiptera, Pentatomidae) in Argentina

Pentatomid adults of the species Dichelops furcatus (F.), collected on stubble of soybean, Glycine max (Linnaeus) Merril, in Santa Fe province of Argentina, were found parasitized by two encyrtid wasp species (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae). One of the encyrtids is described as Hexacladia dichelopsis Torréns & Fidalgo, sp. n., from both sexes, and the other species H. smithii Ashmead, is recorded for the first time from D. furcatus in Argentina. Both species are gregarious endoparasitoids which carry out the whole development (larval and pupal) in their living hosts; they emerge as imagoes, by cutting their way out through the dorsal wall of the abdomen. Including the newly described H. dichelopsis, seven species of the genus are recorded from South America, and an identification key to separate them is presented. ABSTRACT: In this paper we offer a fast overview of the usage needs of search engines for knowledge management, as well as the basic ideas about how they work. We then present the CSORA method (Classify, Search, Organize, Relate and Adapt), a set of technical and methodological procedures that improve the efficacy of search engines, making it possible to find relevant information in environments with lots of information or specialized information. Last, we show the integration of the method into the search engines. The conclusions include a description of the advantages of using this method, verified by experiments carried out, and the lines of future work

Review and Proposal of Alternative Technologies for Comprehensive and Reliable Newborn Screening Using Paper Borne Urine Samples for Lysosomal Storage Disorders: Glycosphingolipid Disorders

    Get PDF
Few current methods are efficient to detect a high number of lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs) in newborn screening. Therefore, we propose a stepwise procedure that starts with the use of paper borne urine samples (Berry-Woolf specimen) for the inexpensive detection of elevated lysosomal content and the identification of which of the three majors biochemical groups -mucopolysaccharides, oligosaccharides, and glycosphingolipids- is detected. Urine samples are preferable to blood samples because of their higher concentrations of the relevant analytes. Subsequent steps would precisely determine which enzyme deficiency is involved. As a summary, following our previous papers on the detection of elevated oligosaccharides and mucopolysaccharides, here we describe how elevated urinary glycosphingolipids (GSLs) could be fluorometrically detected using the reagent 5-hydroxy-1-tetralone (HOT) and subsequently identified with precision by continuous thin layer chromatography or other techniques. We also outline the steps required for the validation of this procedure for its introduction in newborn screening programsS

When science becomes interactive: a collaborative project in a teaching-learning network

Publicado em "Proceedings of INTED2017 Conference". ISBN 978-84-617-8491-2This paper presents the results of an international Project of Teaching Innovation developed between three universities (University of the Basque Country; University of Salamanca and Autonomous University of Lisbon). The focus was the process of virtualization of teaching contents. The main objective of this project was to plan and create digital didactic materials in an interactive format within an interdisciplinary perspective. Teachers and students from Science and Communication Sciences conceptualized and developed digital content of a specific course (Inorganic Chemistry) to promote an active learning framework in a digital environment. The starting point for this project was the new educational model of higher education and the use of technology as an element to empower the teaching-learning process. This paper provides an articulated analysis around this project, which focuses its main interest on the great importance that, the practical work that the students performs within the subjects has acquired in the new curricula, both at the level of hours of work and of specific weight in the final grade.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

An a posteriori, efficient, high-spectral resolution hybrid finite-difference method for compressible flows

Versión aceptada de https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cma.2018.02.013[Abstract:] A high-order hybrid method consisting of a high-accurate explicit finite-difference scheme and a Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory (WENO) scheme is proposed in this article. Following this premise, two variants are outlined: a hybrid made up of a Finite Difference scheme and a compact WENO scheme (CRWENO 5), and a hybrid made up of a Finite Difference scheme and a non-compact WENO scheme (WENO 5). The main difference with respect to similar schemes is its a posteriori nature, based on the Multidimensional Optimal Order Detection (MOOD) method. To deal with complex geometries, a multi-block approach using Moving Least Squares (MLS) procedure for communication between meshes is used. The hybrid schemes are validated with several 1D and 2D test cases to illustrate their accuracy and shock-capturing properties. This work has been partially supported by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (grant #DPI2015-68431-R) of the Spanish Government and by the Consellería de Educación e Ordenación Universitaria of the Xunta de Galicia (grant #GRC2014/039), cofinanced with FEDER funds and the Universidade da Coruña.

From cognitive perspectives, writing is considered as a complex activity, which includes processes of different nature, not only cognitive and metacognitive but affective writing processes. Last years, as result of reformulating Hayes’ theoretical model of written composition (Hayes, 1996), it has emphasized the key role of motivational variables of writing, such as, self-efficacy, in development of students’ writing competence. According to this research line, this paper presents an empirical review about writing self-efficacy, focused on three analyses: its role on written composition competence or achievement, its changes from a developmental perspective, and the study of learning disabled students’ writing selfefficacy. We analyze the state of art of writing self efficacy, and the gaps of writing self-efficacy research field that justifies future researches in this field.peerReviewe
